First, it's in a fabulous location, about a 5 minute walk to the Duomo. The building is beautiful and interesting and you feel like you're in a home rather than a hotel. The suites are huge with cooktops and refrigerators and all of the comforts of home (including great air conditioning in the summer). The bathrooms are beautiful and modern. The beds are comfy and there is ample space to spread out and relax after a day of work or shopping. The staff is incredibly responsive and nice. I have stayed here twice - each suite is unique, but all are beautiful. Highly recommend for staying for work or play!

The school arranged for the accommodation and my roommates/floormates, some of whom I ended up befoming great friends with. I was surprised to find that the hotel does not seem to have made any updates to their interior in the past 8 years. Including the bulky CRT TVs. Granted, I never once had time to turn on the TV while there and I can't see why anyone would, but as of 2008 I have made it a point never to stay at a place that hasn't at least updated their technology especially now when LCDs and LEDs are priced as low as they are. To me, it signifies neglect and an extreme need to cut corners that could possibly spill over into other less cosmetic areas of the hotel. At least the rooms were far more spacious than I've typically seen throughout my trips to various European cities and include a separate living area and kitchenette. The location is a bit removed from central Milan, but easily accessible as the subway is no more than two blocks away. Plenty of decent eateries popular amongst locals and residents are within walking distance. A small supermarket is about 100 yards away. The school placed us in 2 different Atahotels and according to many of the other students, this one was in a much safer neighborhood and had a much nicer interior. Wi-Fi was spotty and not free. Due to its location away from Via Monte Napoleone/Central Milan and its non-competitive prices for short stays, I probably wouldn't stay here again... though I may visit the neighborhood for nostalgia. They do have negotiable rates if you contacted them directly for longer stays, though.

They have two showrooms and an impressive amount of minimally and tastefully designed home furnishings that are designed and manufactured in Japan. When I was visiting they had incense burning which added to the ambiance. They sell some collaborative pieces by noteworthy architects and designers. A couple I remember are Kengo Kuma who is a professor of architecture at Tokyo University and Hiroshi Nakamura who owns the architecture studio NAP. My impression of what they were selling were respect for the materials being used and a high level of craftsmanship with wood joints and fabric wraps being very cleanly executed. Unfortunately, they've shut own their online store and the only way to get their pieces if have someone order it for you in Japan or visit one of their showrooms. They do have 2 US distributors, The Future Perfect in SF and Fair Design in NY.

The staff was friendly and tried very hard to understand my English. Although it is a glass shop, you are free to pick up pieces. The chandelier, considering it is handmade Murano class is reasonably priced at 4,000 euro. I will be returning on my next visit to purchase.
