The palace itself is large but the open parts don't take that long to go through, so getting a detailed verbal history helped a lot. The palace interior is beautiful and has a lot of interesting history, and the palace gardens and grounds are nice for a nature walk. Entering the palace and getting the tour aren't super expensive and are worth the price, but I around to a little annoying that there's so many little add on charges to see the other parts - specifically the Chinese pavilion and the theater.

We took a Stromma boat tour that took us from Stockholm out to the palace and back (with a two-hour block for exploring the palace and its grounds). The interior and the grounds are beautiful, and we enjoyed our two hours of exploring. The tour is self-guided, so you can wander at your own pace. With a charming cafe at the palace, I wish we'd had a little more than two hours, so we didn't have to choose between time at the cafe and continuing to explore the grounds! I recommend getting a guide book to the palace or using the audio guide, because there aren't many signs explaining about the history or architecture of the palace, but the rooms you can tour are beautiful, and the grounds are lovely, too. Overall, I highly recommend visiting the palace, whether by boat or by car if you have one while you're visiting Stockholm!

Once they were open, it took a long time between us being given menus to finally getting our food- 50 minutes. They should've given us our side while we were waiting for the board. We ordered a side of salami and Swedish cheese and the hairy pig board. I enjoyed the side, but the board not so much. The board consisted of wild boar sausage with broche bun, wild boar taco, peppercorn fries, and wild boar lasagna. The board was quite heavy and salty. I didn't have enough stomach space to even try the taco. I did enjoy the fries, but it's not enough for me to want to return.

This place is tucked below street level and is very intimate and downright cozy with its low beam wood ceiling, wood tables in every cranny it can fit to accommodate guests, and a tiny little bar. You can find this place outside by the wooden sign with the boar on it, then simply peer down into the low window and if you see a hairy pig nomming on a sausage, congratulations! You're in the right place. We stopped in not long before closing time and that was probably the only reason we were able to get a much coveted table. The barkeep was nice and let us put in a quick order while also getting us drinks. Unfortunately for me, there were not very many gluten free tapa options on the menu, but there were a few naturally gf. The salami and sausages were thought to have gluten so I went with the smoked shell on shrimp, a cheese dip, and some salad with olives. I wasn't crazy about the smoked shrimp but the olives and cheese were good. The husband enjoyed a sausage in bun which he said was great. Overall we liked the vibe and I think if you can eat the locally sourced meats like my husband it's probably a pretty solid place. If you're gf or allergy you'll probably still be hungry at the end of the meal like I was.

Well, besides the fact that we didn't take proper measures to get internet during our stay since we relied on our cousins to do that, all I did was check-in to areas with my spotty internet and didn't think of checking in to the actual town. Well, here I am, five months later with a few shots from some of the most beautiful views I captured during my visit to Stockholm. Monteliusvägen is a gorgeous walking area about a quarter-mile long that shows gorgeous views of historic buildings, the glistening water and gorgeous homes and businesses surrounding the area. We arrived to the country at a good time during the summer, although they are known to have sudden changes in the weather in the middle of the day where it'll begin raining with thunderstorms out of nowhere. This day in particular served us well. One of the pictures was taken from the water because my lovely uncle and cousins gave us a tour around the city with their boat. It was a magical experience and I could not stop taking photos. If you visit Sweden and want to avoid the cold, visit during July (when they celebrate Midsommar) or August...just bring an umbrella.

There are many old boats docked here and many have signs telling you all about the history of the boat and so on. It's very quiet here compared to the old city and there is a historical toroedo works and other bits and pieces. There is a gorgeous cafe in the torpedo works that serves lovely food and it's got such a nice view of the city and harbour. I loved walking around here and I am sure you will love it too.

The Vasa Museum on Djurgården in Stockholm is a 15-20 minute walk from the harbor. This is where the famous warship Vasa is, the ship that sank after a 14-15 hundred meters on its maiden voyage. August 10, 1628 and was raised from the bottom in 1961 after 333 years underwater. The ship is the world's best preserved 17th century ship and consists of about 98% original parts. You walk over several floors and can admire and speculate about how they could make such a ship at that time. You get the whole story by looking and reading the information plates. They have had a copy of the ship made in 1:10, which took 5 years and 12,000 working hours, while the original took about 2 years, started in 1626 and was finished in 1628. This is a must if you are in Stockholm.

There were five elements to see at the Royal Palace that were still open during our visit…read more The changing of the guard/marching band on Wednesday at 12:15pm was free. We arrived about half an hour to secure our spot. The event lasted for half an hour and was a mixture of ceremony, band marching and playing and some history about the tradition and the regiment of guards. The highlight of our visit. One tip that worked for us was to split the visit of the palace itself and the changing of the guards. When we visited the rest of the palace the day after there just wasn't that many people. The chapel was free to enter and was located on the second floor opposite of the entrance to the treasury. It wasn't as large or ornate as other palace chapels we've visited. The treasury showcased many crowns, scepters, keys, orbs and other objects used by past and current royals. Placards in English was available just after the ticket desk. We saw everything in around 20 minutes. Tre Kronor museum was located underground in the remains of the previous palace that burned down in 1697. The artifacts were limited but the signage throughout was helpful in context. Near the end was a movie about the fire and construction of the replacement palace. The Royal Apartments had the first and second floors open for viewing but not all of it. Most rooms were darkened for preservation but the White Sea Room (last available room on the second floor) was our favorite as it was so much more inviting. Since the tour deadends on each floor, one has to backtrack the same way to exit. Next time we're in town we'll go to Drottingham and compare palaces.

Construction took twelve years, from 1911 to 1923. Nearly eight million dark red bricks were used. The Blue Room was supposed to be covered with blue marble, but the designer liked the bricks so much, the marble brick facade was never installed. The staircase to the organ and the balconies are made from a beautiful green marble from Sweden. The floor is a light grey limestone, and the columns are made from a red and green marble from Sweden The Golden Room has walls that are covered with more than 18 million pieces of gold and glass mosaic, created by the artist Einar Forseth. The mosaics contain approximately 18 kilograms (40 lbs) of 23.5-carat gold leaf. As of today, that's 2.25 million US dollars worth of gold. The mosaics represent the history of Sweden, as well as Swedish values. It's hard to describe what this banquet room for the Nobel Prize winners look like, so I recommend viewing the photos I've attached, or better yet, go to the City Hall's website and view this movie: https://stadshuset.stockholm/stadshuset-play/stadshusets-salar-en-digital-visning-av-stadshuset/. It's in Swedish, but you'll get the idea. A visit to a City Hall sounds boring, and many times it is. However, this is WELL worth a visit, when you are in Stockholm. I promise you will be impressed.

We reserved a…read moretour of the interior and purchased tickets that allow us to climb up to the top of the tower for the views. But the architecture of city hall? Incredible. Completed in 1923, it seems so much older. And each space in City Hall is so different, with different architectural styles, inspirations, and decor. This is the kind of building you buy books about. A 45-minute tour just isn't long enough! If they had a two hour tour, I'd have taken it. They release the tickets either the week of or the week before, but they still fill out. The tour groups are large, which limits the spaces you can see, but I'm still so glad we were able to get tickets for a tour of this amazing building! You learn about the building, the architect, the building's connection to the Nobel Prize...! And it's just incredibly stunning, too. One of the highlights of our time in Stockholm.

Sveriges Riksdag is the main Parliament of Sweden, right opposite the Royal Palace and a few…read moreminutes away from public transport (get the metro to Old Town and then the bus from there to across the away) in Stockholm. It is a fairly impressive, old building and although I don't feel it compares to similar buildings in Berlin and London - it still is pretty cool to check-out. They do offer English tours every-day but the entrance is quite tucked away into a dark corner - to wait for the tour they expect you to wait outside with no member of staff there which is a concept I really don't like - what if you're early/late or trying to shelter for the rain? The tour times are also quite confusing meaning for a few weeks in summer and winter and around the year they don't offer anything at all - sadly this fell in the time I was visiting Stockholm and I was unable to do the 1:30 pm tour. I really do feel these are peak times to run the tours and the fact they're unable to offer them at this time, is embarrassing and stupidity. Even during these times, I do find having one time per day really restrictive and perhaps offering a few more, even if they charged just a couple of krona with a dedicated waiting area and a bolder entrance would be good. Inside, Parliament is laid out more like a US / EU type structure compared to the likes of the UK. Still, this remains a grand and historic place and a nice sight to see while strolling across the city of Stockholm, made better by the beautiful gardens and canal of the building. 3* due to how difficult it was to find the visitors entrance with only one police officer who spoke only English and couldn't help in a busy, touristy area and other factors such as difficulty finding and getting a tour (even their phone lines are only open 2 days a week for TWO HOURS!) do let what could be an amazing tourist attraction down - like come on, it almost feels you don't want to show off the home of Swedish democracy and welcome visitors from Sweden and overseas?

It just happened that within the hour they had an infrequent tour in English - so we started the line. Eventually a considerable line formed. At about 10 minutes before it was to begin a representative came out and stuck stickers on us and began leading us in. We had a security check point where they X-rays our things... then we were led to a locker room where we could check some of our things into storage. At this point we were led through many areas of the Parliament House. Considerable time was iven with our guide who brought us into the existing and past facilities. All told this was much better then I might have expected! As such I recommend it to all who have any interest in museums + this was a free tour!
