When it comes to accounting and taxes, Stephen Shelly is as golden a guy as the stalk of wheat cleverly contained in the logo of Brew City Accounting and Tax. He is a seasoned accountant who offers a wealth of knowledge and services to individuals and businesses. I've known Stephen for 6 years - we worked together in operations management for a retail franchise. I always appreciated his sense of organization, attention to detail and easily relatable personality. He was just so great to work with for those reasons. He and I have both moved on from that scenario, and when I heard he went into business for himself I was delighted to sign up for his services. The fees at Brew City Accounting and Taxes are reasonable and affordable. I appreciated that. But more, I appreciated the attentive detail that went into preparing my taxes. It's really nice to know that someone I trust is going to bat for me against the federal and state government. Stephen is like that - he cares about his clients and wants to help. Whether it's finding a qualifying tax deduction, making a suggestion to improve efficiency, or picking up the phone or stopping by an office, he will do what it takes to get the job done. Brew City would make a great partner for any small business looking for a thorough and reliable accountant to help with bookkeeping, because Stephen has been doing accounting behind the scenes for more than a decade. He's got a thorough understanding of inventory management which is also a plus. My taxes aren't really hard to do, but I'm horrible at numbers so I was glad to turn this detail over. I was simultaneously shocked and delighted to learn that for the first time in six years, I got a federal tax refund. Stephen humbly attributed it to overtime I've worked. Previous accountant increased my fee by $200. Was able to get in with Stephen and he did them for less than half. Not only was he cheaper, he was able to get them done in half the time my previous preparer took. He also took the time to explain the taxes to me, how I can save additional taxes. I scheduled a meeting to do planning this summer! I can tell he cares about his clients and is not just another tax preparer. read more

I am writing to warn others regarding Stephen's disregard to schedules, deadlines, and the complete lack of professionalism at Brew City. We made the mistake of entrusting him to complete our tax returns for 2021. All documents were delivered to Stephen in early March (2021). As the tax deadline approached, calls to Stephen's secretary, were answered with "we are working on them", which was a lie (more than once). NOTHING was done to process our straightforward tax returns and NO effort was made to contact us that they could/would not complete our taxes. Completely unprofessional and irresponsible. An extension filed for $0 due, is proof that no effort was made to review our taxes and confirms the incompetence with how this return was handled by Brew City. So, this is fair warning to anyone considering Brew City to complete their tax return. Be prepared to retrieve your documents mid-summer, take them to a qualified tax preparer, and pay penalties and fee's when Stephen "drops the ball". read more

I needed to complete multiple years as I was behind. I was able to schedule online and meet with Stephen. He was able to catch me up on my taxes and to my surprise, I was receiving a refund. Thank you again for putting up with me and I will be back next year! read more

Please DO NOT contact this organization. I called in January 2021 and spoke to the accountant who said that they would take on my personal and business taxes. I was told to fill out the tax organizer, by Ryan, and was asked to send it back into contact@brewcityaccounting.com. I called back three weeks later to see if they received my information. I left a second message for "Stephen", the owner, and NO RESPSONSE. I waited another two weeks and resent the information and called Ryan back to leave another message for Stephen. Ryan was very apologetic and told me he didn't know why Stephen wasn't getting back to me. He said he would put the message on Stephen's desk. NO RESPONSE. I called back in March to see why Stephen hadn't reached out to me and Ryan apologized, again, and told me to send the info to stephen.shelly@brewcityaccounting.com. I send the information and NO RESPONSE. Later, I found out that they missed the DEADLINE to ask for an extension for my business taxes. I resent the information to Stephen's email four times and left five messages, since January. It's April 15th and I still haven't heard from Stephen. This is such POOR BUSINESS. We are part of the Waukesha County Business Alliance and our business is literally two blocks away from Brew City Accounting. We invested so much time and effort into switching accountants and are extremely disappointed that Stephen has yet to reach out, yet he has all of our personal and confidential information. SHAME ON YOU, STEPHEN for treating another small, local business so poorly. I would recommend that people do NOT use their services. It's obvious that they don't want to help others in the community. I am waiting to see if I have to pay a penalty for having our extension filed late, now, thanks to Stephen's POOR BUSINESS.
