Fried Seitan Sandwich With Fries. Don't forget to try some of that chipotle Ketchup!
    John B.

I had been wanting to visit a Brewdog pub for sometime now since watching their TV series "Brewdogs" in the US. You could say that Brewdog was my go to beer during at least half of our European vacation. Punk IPA was readily available from Grocery stores from London to France. Their 3 brew pubs in London from Soho, to Sheppard's Bush, to this here in Shoreditch supported my hoppy needs while in town. Since this location was the only one we ate food at, I feel it's best to mention that The Vegan fried seitan sandwich we ate here was one of the best things that I ate in London. They also happened to have this killer Chipotle ketchup for their fries that I wish I could remember the name of. I would save some room in my suitcase for that stuff! The taplist is smaller than the other two locations that I visited. They had the classics along with a few seasonal or experimental releases available. Everything Brewog brews is pretty standard in the US but since there's nothing else like it on a large scale over here, it's elevated a notch above the rest. They're currently undergoing a renovation so hopefully that brings some additional taps to offer up more delicious beer along with added seating since it was kinda crowded when we went. Otherwise, this place is the tits!

    Raspberry Revolver on draught. £4.10

I needed a beer. A beer -- in Shoreditch. A Raspberry Revolver...? A kind and friendly barman. A Raspberry Revolver, indeed. I'm revolved. Oh, what's this...a Dead Cobbler, you say? Ok, why not...tomorrow's Thursday. With half a grapefruit, Death's Door Gin That one beer turned into a little jammin'. Hipsters in Shoreditch? Surely not in short supply. Now you've got BrewDog ...as you watch them breeze by. There's secrets I can't tell, ...but soon the world shall know. You can be sure, I'll be back... Update to follow.

I may be the first to review UnderDog, but I certainly won't be the last. Nestled in the depths of BrewDog's new Shoreditch establishment, UnderDog is arguably East London's best new speakeasy. If you manage to find the secret door, you'll enter a near entirely candle lit room, where the vibe is relaxed, collected, and seems an undeniably positive and refreshing change compared to other cocktail bars in the area. In addition to the cocktail menu, where many of the items actually contain BrewDog's fresh brews, one can also order several of the beers available on tap upstairs. You're also more then welcome to bring a beer down with you, as the list above is slightly more extensive. If you're lucky you might even be given some popcorn. At the time of writing, UnderDog has only just opened and as we enjoy the honeymoon period, let's just hope we have a few months before everyone finds out.

Helllloooo speakeasy. Anyone who knows me, knows I'm a huge fan of any place with a secret door. It's effing awesome and I'm so glad my group and I were able to get in during their soft opening. I was feeling a bit under the weather so I was only able to try one drink. Never having a beer cocktail before, I was surprised that my Cream Porter Float actually tasted good. Besides the unique beer cocktails, they've got mixologists ready to make any cocktail you ask for. With great drinks and a candlelit ambiance to match, just add good company and you've got yourself an unforgettable drinking experience. Enjoy!

I don't like beer that much. I did. Growing up. But then I realized it didn't agree with my internal chemistry, lifestyle, bladder size and emissions. So I gave it up (mostly). Since moving to London, however, I've realized that sometimes you just gotta go with beer. Especially in a place that makes its own. And you know what? I loved their beer. In particular, the very strong IPA (not its real name). After 2-3 of these, I no longer care what I'm drinking or doing. Which might explain why I woke up in Mexico wrapped in plastic and wearing handcuffs. Just kidding. They were leggings. Bit really,,, it's a cool joint with a cooler downstairs an the beer on either level is top notch. Just be sure to wear good leggings.

Just when I thought I couldn't love anything the Brewdog folks do any more than I already do, I finally visited UnderDog and was proved wrong. It opens at 6pm (discovered this as we got there at 1750 on a Friday) and entrance is down the stairs in Brewdog Shoreditch. Fairly typical speakeasy set up in that it's completely hidden and there's a door built into the false wall. I was a bit confused myself and the bouncer at the top of stairs has to gesture accordingly when she saw me looking confused. Bit ashamed I couldn't work it out quicker but props to her for being attentive and helpful. The space is actually much larger than I expected and extremely cozy. To me it felt 1940s ish America (I have no idea if this is even remotely accurate or based on false preconceptions that exist only in my head). It was just the right level of dimness to give it a warm feeling while being bright enough to easily see everything. Table service too which is a plus. Drinks are fairly standard price at 9-10 pounds each. Ordered the Dog Julep myself but also tried the dead cobbler and French morning. The drinks are strong, tasty and just generally really well made! Cannot recommend this place enough. It wasn't even that crowded on a Friday evening which is another positive. If you're in the area, do yourself a favour and check it out.

The revolution will not be televised.

Relaxed spot in Shoreditch to grab a pint. All of the beers are made in house. The guys & gals behind the counter are friendly and aim to please as they ask questions and let you sample to find exactly what you are looking for. BrewDog is a convenient place to pop by before or after dinner and is within easy walking distance of Beigel Bake, a mecca for late night cheap eats on the eastside. Also, if you want a slight change of scenery head downstairs for UnderDog.

Beer fans of London ahoy! This is a fun (and seemingly always packed) bar/brewery that ticks the boxes - a very decent beer selection and reasonable prices. Oh and amusing names too. I blinked twice when my date told me he wanted to Adopt a Bastard but turns out he was talking about a 7.2% ale (obviously). I went for a 6.7% light wheat beer named Custard Pie (oh to be the person getting paid to come up with these names...). Very sensibly both of these strengths are served by the two-thirds-pint, with higher strength beers available in even smaller servings just to stop anyone getting too overexcited. The bar staff seem very down-to-earth and know far too much about the beers so ask them if you get stuck (or like us, just take a punt on the name you most want to say out loud!). It's a high-energy place but you can have as big a night as you want - from the buzzing outdoor area to the sofa seating with board games. We luckily found a couple of high stools at a table in one corner - perfect to sip away and enjoy each other's company relatively undisturbed despite it being a popular Friday night :)

    Plenty of seating downstairs.

Bar staff are friendly and the burgers are lovely. Beer recommendations can be sketchy depending on who you ask,so just ask to try all the beer you like the sound of, the staff are 100% happy to give you sample sips and it's lots of fun too.

    Look at the Food Menu!!!

I've been meaning to drop by here for a while and given we were a little early (for once) to a meal locally, we jumped in here for a swift refreshment. Firstly, the bar has an amazing location, right at the bottom of Brick Lane, it's a very busy and vibrant area. Great at weekends and even better for a few drinks on the town, plenty of bars around. Walking in, the place is very American Diner-esque, feels like a good old bar that you could sneak a few in. The bar was a little busy but had plenty of staff to power through the orders. It was actually a good thing, as it gave us time to mull over the huge beer list, so many choices. The bar guy (can't remember his name) was a hero, such a nice bloke. Gave the place a totally welcoming feel and will certainly make us come back. We tried two different pints, one light lager and another local pale ale. Both were fantastic, I'm more of a cider drinker so the lighter lager was my personal fave. A good strong taste, something that you don't get outside of craft breweries. We took a seat and really enjoyed the little time we spent here, BUT what really took us in was the food menu. We almost lost both our bottom jaws when we discovered the amazing delights on offer. Proper diner food, huge burger, and everything deep fried. I absolutely need to get back here to eat and i'm 100% it will be this week. A great spot, really cool staff and awesome food. Get in and get down people.

Based UNDER Brewdogs in Shoreditch, Underdogs is it's cocktail swilling cousin. The decor is very macabre, victorian with faux damp stained walls, shrunken heads and taxidermy animals. The crowd is very hipster, as is the music. There's a long wait to get to the bar and then another long wait for the cocktails to be prepared. But that may be a good thing as they're quite potent.

    Cocoa psycho!

One of my go-to places for beer in Shoreditch. Not only is it well located in the middle of all the buzz, it always serves great beer and the staff are fantastic bartenders. There is usually a good variety of beers of mixed strength and different tastes. Among a group of people with varying preferences of beers, we were all able to find something we liked - how rare is that?! Don't be intimidated, though, by all the choice. Since I tend to go for some of their darker or more bitter beers, I always ask for recommendations in case there's something different I haven't tried yet. And what I really like about Brewdog is when I ask for recommendations from the staff, they're usually spot on. And if they don't get it right, they never mind that I ask to try a different option. Just bear in mind that the drinks aren't that cheap, and while the space is very nice, it does get quite crowded, so you'll probably find yourself standing up and also shouting at each other. Still, a good beer is a good beer and worth the hassle!

I got the bangers and mash while by wife got the cottage pie. I think I got the better meal as the sausages were really tasty and the whole grain mustard in the potatoes was a great way to elevate the potatoes. Her cottage pie was fine but didn't have a ton of flavor. Food came out surprisingly quickly, but we also had an order of chips which was crazy slow to come out of the kitchen. The chips were quite good but we'd both finished our entire meals and most of our beers by the time we got them. Beer options were solid, some good German choices. Beer was cheap too.

This place is not trying to play up on an image like many of the bars in this areas and sticks instead to the important business of being a damn fine pub. Being quite small there is a naturally cosy feel to the place and this is complimented by the decor wuth lots of wood panelling and comfy seats. The bar has a great selection of draft and bottled beers and, for the summer months, there is an excellent beer garden. I've yet to try the food but they do serve traditional pub grub between 12 and 5 Tuesday through Sunday. With a great atmosphere, warm and friendly bar staff and an excellent range of drinks, The Carpenters Arms is a brilliant place for a relaxing evening or a great stop-in after a hard days shop.

But, the chaos I walked into on a Sunday has ensured that I never walk into a crowded pub like this again. It took almost 15 minutes to flag down one of the servers to ask about getting a table, to which I was told, "If you see a spot, grab it." As soon as I saw a couple get up I threw my stuff down- hoping it wouldn't get stolen- and went to order at the bar. That took another 5 minutes. Given how crowded it was, I ended up having to share my table with 4 other people; which wasn't bad, until I ended up getting my food more than 15 minutes after I'd ordered it, and then realized I was the only one eating at a table full of strangers. The food itself wasn't bad, but for a pub that claims to have the best Sunday Roast in London, it certainly didn't compare to those that don't claim that and are less of a hassle to eat in. And at £17 a pop, you can bet the experience wasn't worth it for some chicken and Yorkshire pudding.

The best description of it I can make is that it was that someone poured a bag of tortilla chips onto a plate, squeezed some awful American-style runny cheese over it all, then put some ready-made shop-bought guacamole on one end, what looked like ketchup but was salsa on the other end, and then the largest dollop of sour cream (almost tasted like fresh whipped cream somehow) in the middle. There was no attempts to layer anything. It was served on a baking tray which I can't really explain seeing as it was all completely cold. And they cost £12.50 which, tbh, is a disgrace. They were unfortunate to say the least. I should have sent them back but I was so hungry that I tried to make the most of it. Unrelated, but the bar staff were lovely, I'm sorry I had to give a bad review based off the food.
