We took a "baby class" and it just so happened to be at The Lift building on White Lion Street, a stone's throw from Craft Beer Co. My husband's delight could hardly be concealed as we approached lunchtime and the promise of a remarkable pint. He successfully completed his lunch mission and the rest of baby class...so, I'd call that a success. He raves about the beer selection here as do numerous other yelpers - safe bet you'll find something that catches your eye. My chicken sandwich was messy and delicious, made fresh and arrived very quickly with hot chips. Nice pub, bearing in mind how new it is they have really gone quite traditional with dark wood, dark fabrics and brass whilst giving it a modern twist. Was only here for drinks so can't comment on the food as yet but the beer selection was astounding. They must have had around 30 beers and ciders on tap, plus many more bottled delights. None of them are cheap though so probably best avoided if you're feeling a bit skint. Tried some delicious stout and golden ale. I was visiting a friend in Islington and this was the first bar he took me too. They have a lot of their own brews along with some normal staples but I would definitely go with their beers. I was surprised by how inexpensive the beers were for being craft. Like usual it goes by alcohol percent but a 4.5% ale was around £3. The scene is nice. Bar staff is friendly and helpful. The woman behind the bar helped me choose a ale based on a few taste criteria. Try and hit up one of the Craft Beer Company pubs if you get a chance. read more

I always enjoyed going to Craft Beer Co in Clerkenwell and was secretly happy that they weren't any closer to my flat and didn't have an off license. I knew that the combination of these things would cause me to spend all of my money in a short amount of time and I would find myself fat and malnourished from subsisting on ale alone. I journeyed to their sister pub, CASK Pub & Kitchen, for my birthday this year and discovered that they do in fact sell bottles to go. This allows you continue drinking too much beer once you begin pining for your living room. Dangerous. Luckily for me, Pimlico is a bit of a hike from Islington, and kept our relationship in the long distance camp. And now, as we enter a time approaching New Year's Resolutions and post-holiday recovery, I've discovered a new nail in my coffin. Craft Beer Co in Islington. With an off license. Ten minutes walking distance from my front door. I've been to the original location in Clerkenwell on a UYE so was glad to see another Craft Beer opening up closer to home. In fact I think this one is better. They took an old pub and refurbished but kept the original character while updating in a good way. Some leather sofas, larger tables with stools and a small outdoor area. Quite a cosy feel vs the Leather Lane location which is more functional. The loos are also super clean and modern, plus points for that. Now the beer, which is the main point of the place. A huge selection on draft and also bottles with a changing list chalked up on blackboards. Many will be unfamiliar so best bet is to ask the friendly and knowledgeable staff for a reco. based on a style of beer you might like to try. The prices are reasonable too compared with some nearby pubs that charge over the norm for standard pub beers. The place is well run and organised and the staff are great. Good crowd too. It's just far enough from Angel station (about 3 mins walk on a side street) to avoid the mass weekend revelers so that's another plus. read more

In case you haven't got the gist from previous reviews, I like beer. What I really like having is a good selection of well kept beers in a cool bar with plenty of space to relax and not having music so loud that I can't have a conversation with my friends *rant over*. Craft Beer Co delivered on all of this and more. A group of 5 of us ended up getting through a pretty good portion of the wine and beer list during our visit, but every pint was served perfectly and tasted spot on. The food offering seemed to be... Ok... but the star of the show really was the drinks. The prices seemed fair and there was plenty of different seating areas and options to choose from, meaning even on a Saturday afternoon we could have a relaxed conversation and catch up with our friends. Craft Beer Pub... does what it says on the tin? Pretty much exactly. On a Saturday night round Soho way, we wanted a nice place to have a drink that wasn't full of douches. Well, this is the place! They were hosting an Atom Beer pop up while we were there and the brewmaster himself was there. He helpfully recommended some beers and offered some tasters and then very nicely gave us our first round for free. Upstairs was rammed so we went downstairs to the large lounge to drink. For three of us, I wasn't hugely enamoured with the lounge. I personally hate the feeling of drinking in the basement. But for groups, it's a good sized space. I'd love to try the burgers. read more

Don't hate me, but I can't give this place five stars. I've been there many times now, and I'll certainly go back. The selection cannot be beat and the taps are always rotating - the way it should be! Along with a few old reliables (I'm into the tzar, if you want an easy-to-drink palate cleanser). So why not five stars? A few reasons. -While the bartenders definitely know what's on tap, their recommendations have not been as good as what I've experienced at other beer bars. It's really hard when you're busy and the taps rotate. I do understand that. It can just be frustrating to spend a small fortune on a pint that you're kind of meh about. Which brings me to... -The prices! You're going to spend more at any craft beer pub, and I'm willing to. But there are usually only very minimal options under £5 for a pint, which gets to be an expensive evening rather quickly. This makes sense for the imports, but for UK beers, it's possible to charge less. This includes the bottled options. I recommend ordering half pints of different things to try. I often commit to a pint of something that I'm lukewarm about while my partner orders £10 (!!!!) pints of some random US import. There are delicious beers to be had here, though, and that's what matters most. read more

I came with a few friends when we were looking for craft brew beers in Islington and even though this is a bit of a chain, it seems to have a solid selection. Their tap selection is split into "cask" and "keg," and after a long conversation with the bartender, I have come to the conclusion that cask refers to more ale types, while a keg is for beer. I went with his recommendation and got a light wheat beer that I really enjoyed, and my other friends found heavier beers that they enjoyed, so there is something for everyone. The atmosphere is like that of a laid back pub, and there are cool decorations on the wall like the Periodic Table and an explanation of the beer making process. I also liked that there was a selection of armchairs, stools, and old-fashioned wooden chairs, and it was a great place to sit at a table and catch up with friends for a few hours. There is a food menu as well and some people were eating, but I didn't get a good look at what they were having. Oh and the bar happens to stay open until 1 AM, which I think is really great for Islington! read more

A little secret pub in Islington opened in November 2012 and an absolute gem! Beautiful decor, lush red carpets (and immaculate toilets i might add in 1930s style splendour)With a spectacular choice of delicious beers, bitters and ales. My husband and I had this great idea to Bike 'n Beer one sunny Saturday afternoon and Craft Beer Co. was the first stop on our tour. First, I'm sad to report that there isn't much for bike parking near the pub. There's a railing across the road - which may or may not be OK to chain bikes to - and then there are a few light posts but other than that, nothing. Second, there are two "gardens" to this pub. The first is the obvious one located to the right of the main door which has three picnic tables. They were full because they were in direct path of the sun so that was sad. The second is a small enclosed space to the left of the bar. It's not that well covered by that big yellow ball in the sky but it's nice to have some outdoor space, I guess. I ordered The Kernel which is a pale ale and the bartender said that they didn't have anything else like it (when I asked for something comparable for a change of pace). He said it was the best, so, OK, twist my arm, another pint for me! We ordered the chicken burger/sandwich which can with skin-on fries. I'm a bigger fan of skinny fries, so these were not my favorite but what was my favorite was the Stoke's Bloody Mary Ketchup that came with the fries. Wow. Between The Kernel and the ketchup, I thought I had died and gone to heaven. We've since been able to locate a local shop that sells Stoke's products (MEAT butcher in Islington). The chicken was cooked perfectly but sadly came accompanied by a long hair. I've lowered my standards over the past few years, so I just pulled the hair out and ate the damn thing anyway. In line with the other Craft Beer Co pubs across London- currently numbered at six- the Islington branch is perhaps the most welcoming of all. Drawing in a younger crowd and situated a few minutes away from the Angel underground station, a respectable range of craft beer is served in a refurbished north London boozer. It's a handsome space with some of the venue's original details preserved, including a heavy wooden bar and ornately topped pillars throughout. Remarkably, there's plenty of seating available throughout several rooms and even an outdoor space. The crowd is more relaxed and livelier than some of the more central branches of these pubs, so it's a good pick for a casual pint. The barstaff are friendly and were relatively knowledgeable on my last visit. They were carrying some excellent beers from Magic Rock that I'd never sampled before and some other interesting sours. The food is proffered by Forty Burgers (also at their Covent Garden sister branch). The burgers are good, served in a glazed brioche bun and with a side of fries. Food specials rotate and there's also a chicken and vegetarian option available. I've been assured that this is the best site in North London for a pint of good beer and I believe it- it's our sure-fire hangout when we find ourselves around Angel and in the mood for something new. Prices are about what you'd expect for good craft beers- along the lines of £4 for a half or £8 for a pint. To me this is the epitome of a proper pub. The selection of beers available on tap is impressive and puts many much bigger establishments to shame. The interior decor is cosy and comfortable, it's like you are sitting in a familiar front room belonging to a relative who is slightly older than you who has kept their period decor in impeccable condition. When I visited it was fairly quiet, not dead but not rammed either. Service was friendly and well informed, the barman was only too happy to offer suggestions and small taster samples before I parted with my money. All told I can't find anything bad to say, except it's a shame that places like this don't seem to exist anywhere except London. read more

I lived across the street from this place, and I found myself to be so fortunate to have this be my go-to place for beer in London. After moving back to San Francisco last month, I long for a bar like this to be near my new flat. Great selection of beers that changes regularly, and if you're not super into the warm, cask beer scene, there are usually 12 other beers on tap as well. The staff is INCREDIBLY friendly; my partner went here even more frequently than I did, and they knew him by name and always treated him well. Even though I wasn't quite a "regular", I was treated well every time I went, too. I've found that this place is busiest on Thursday and Friday but typically isn't so crowded that you'd want to avoid entirely. Bonus: there are a few board games available to play if you're in the mood for that. read more

I volunteer close to Craft Beer and a gang of us always turn up after a shift to catch up. We've always had a great time with a lovely, broad drinks list and hospitable staff. The small beer patio is welcome during summer and the location is relatively quiet considering its short distance from the main Angel drag. Very good for groups with a few people taking to the piano in the evenings. I would just note that sometimes it smells quite bad which I assume is from the beer, perhaps a plug-in air freshener? This is my favourite of the Craft venues. I can never fault any of them on their epic selection of beer, from keg, cask and bottle but they are generally not the most pleasant of venues to my mind. They are ok, just not remotely cosy. This craft bar actually feels almost like a proper pub and that's why it reigns supreme. If you add the fact that it has an awesome manager and some knowledgeable staff then I don't see how my rating can be anything other than 5! read more

I almost don't want to write good things about this place at risk of it becoming more popular. A great selection of beer, as per the chain, with expert advice from the staff. Its a little bit further away from angel and kings x so doesn't seem to attract quite as many people as you would expect on a friday eve. It boasts a little courtyard and also some benches outside so it's good for a summer pint, although some of the locals can be a bit interesting. Staffies off their lead interesting etc. Bar snacks are brilliant, scotch eggs and pies, a perfect pairing for the selection of ale and craft beer on offer. read more
