When I was traveling to Rome last year, I discovered that the beer brand has bars in a bunch of countries (mostly Europe). To my surprise, I stumbled upon this location in Cologne. There was no way I was going to leave Germany without a visit. Service (5/5): I stopped by around 10:30 p.m. on a Monday night. The bartender was awesome. He's American, so we chatted about his immigration to Germany. He offered samples, let me go behind the bar to take a closer look at the bottled beers, and didn't rush us when closing time arrived. Service the way it should be. Ambiance (4.5/5): Delirium Cafe is a chill bar. Pretty much what you would want a beer bar to look like. Delirium signage in a bunch of places, and a good amount of seating. This location is much smaller than the one I visited in Rome, but it's cozy. Food (N/A): The Rome location has a full menu. No food here. But you can bring food from outside. There's a pizza spot on the same street, so I grabbed some takeout from there and had a glorious pizza + beer combo. Drinks (5/5): I mean it's my favorite beer after all. In addition to Delirium Tremens, they have three other Delirium varieties on tap, including Delirium Red, which is delicious. Their menu is extensive, over multiple pages. It was almost hard making the selections for my flight. I liked tasting the beers and reading more about them on the menu. The location is pretty ideal because there are people going by to different nearby locations. Service is friendly which you don't get that much in Germany in general. Usually in bottles around 60+ of ever changing selection, well curated by the owner. Lots of different styles here: IPAs from Germany, USA, stouts, and maybe the entire selection of Schneider Weiße. On tap are 6 or7 beers with more conventional choices. Great atmosphere inside, very relaxed. Outside USA nice patio/beer garden in front. The only thing I don't like is that it's a "Raucherkneipe," meaning smoking is allowed (even encouraged) inside. As a semi-militant non-smoker, this absolutely ruins my time there. If it weren't a "smoker-bar," I'd visit far more often. Nonetheless, for it's Craft beer selection alone, I really recommend this place. A year+ later, it's still a "smokers bar," so if you're like me and hate 2nd-hand smoke, be advised that on cold days, you'll need breathe smoke. On warm, summer days, however, they have a wonderful outdoor area where it's possible to enjoy the craft beer without choking on smoke.

It has been around for a while, especially when you look at street view (which hasn't been updated since 2008 because, well, it's Germany). I've been in here a couple of times and the thing that really surprises me about the place is that you are allowed to smoke inside, which you can do, well, absolutely nowhere else unless you happen to be in Frankfurt. Mind you, the decent bars you can't smoke inside - well, okay, scrub that because there was a really cool bar I went to that you could smoke inside. As for this bar, well, it really isn't all that flash and only good for people who want to smoke inside.
