They have the 19th St and 20th St galleries in Chelsea, as well as a gallery on Walker Street and another on E 69th. We stopped by the gallery on W 20th to see "Gerhard Richter: Landschaften," which was incredible. Considering he's one of the foremost contemporary German painters, I've rarely seen his works in museum collections and exhibits, and I was thrilled to have a chance to see so many of his paintings in one gallery. (The exhibit closes on July 10 if you want to see it.) This David Zwirner gallery is a little larger than some of the others, but it's just as minimalist, clean, and beautiful as all David Zwirner galleries. Because David Zwirner has several galleries in these two blocks, his galleries are a great start for a gallery crawl of Chelsea. After our visit, I signed up for David Zwirner's email newsletter so I can keep up with future exhibits. The gallery's shows are museum-quality, and I look forward to visiting again in the future!

I visited Gateway Project Spaces during the Newark Arts Council's Open Doors Citywide Arts…read moreFestival, which took place from October 19-23, 2016. While I've checked out the gallery here a few times previously, this was my first opportunity to explore the other floors of the space where artists had opened up their studios to the public that weekend. I was aware that there were three floors, but I didn't realize just how expansive the place was (there were a lot of artists' studios to visit). That weekend, it was really fascinating to see pieces from artists in their own personal studios and to talk with them about their work face-to-face. When you entered Gateway Project Spaces, you were greeted and then provided a map to help you navigate around. Everyone who I encountered - whether fellow visitors or artists/people associated with the organization in the hallways - were very friendly and this contributed to the cool vibe of the space. People were open to share and talk. There was a rich diversity among the artists and the media in which they work. Overall, going to Gateway Project Spaces was a wonderful experience. I definitely will visit again next year for Open Doors 2017. I recommend that you do the same.

As my sister is an artist, and one of the featured artists in this particular exhibit, I have had…read morethe privilege of attending many openings, galleries and art exhibits, but none of them hit home as much as this one. This project was done in coordination with the Newark Police and DEA ( being Newark has an overwhelming amount of heroin dealers, users and therefore, resulting in high crime and addiction related deaths. ) This exhibit deals with various phases of addiction. Anybody who has ever overcome an addiction, lost someone due to addiction or has family members who struggle with this or have friends with this problem will relate to this exhibit. The artists, some who are currently in recovery, some who overcame, parents with sons and daughters who are addicts, some young as young as 12 with knowledge of addiction but all with a common theme. The artwork submitted spoke volumes. The powerful images and what each artist had to say about their personal experience with addiction and the havoc it reeks on your mind, body and family could easily bring you to tears if you have experienced the destruction and pain firsthand. Parts of the exhibit were being filmed for a movie on topic called Epidemic H, and epidemic it is. It has hit a all new peak. I would urge everyone to see this show and support the artists and families and police that worked so hard to make this happen.

It's not accessible by direct transportation but a bus from subways at Main Street or Jamaica will get you there. Fascinating events and programs both virtually and in-person engage the New York City community at large.

I'm a super fan of Basquiats work so I was head over hills when I heard this exhibition was coming to Chelsea. I had tickets for 1pm and the line was wrapped around the block. They have skip the line tickets but I don't think it's worth the price unless you're in a rush. The line moved quickly and they honored my 1pm ticket time. The exhibition and works of art was curated wonderfully allowing one to delve deep into the life of Basquiat even giving us a glimpse into his art studio, the apartment where he grew up, and countless audio visuals of his family speaking about how legendary he was and continues to be. The only con I had was the souvenir shop which was a bit under stocked, a tad corny, & very expensive. I live for souvenirs & couldn't wait to add to my already existing Basquiat collection but I wasn't impressed. The t-shirt I did want was $75 and living in the times of inflation, I couldn't bring myself to buy it. There wasn't much else to be desired. Forgive me for comparing this exhibition to Van Gogh's Immersive exhibition but they had amazing souvenirs as well as a cafe that was inspired by his works. I left with posters, cookies, an umbrella, pens, a cute tote that was reasonably priced and was able to eat lunch & dessert. Despite me not purchasing any souvenirs :( I still had a great time. He was one of the most influential American artists who focused on various issues and life experiences. This exhibit is an impressive experience with over 200 never before and rarely seen paintings, drawing, ephemera and artifacts. I learned so much about his family and the meaning of his artwork. I absolutely loved this experience & I highly recommend this experience! Hurry and go check it out! Jean-michel Basquiat may your legacy continue to live on.

Thanks to Hannah and Wright, we were able to get to know a variety of artists, visit studios, and truly get to know the landscape of the art world in a way that we would not have otherwise. We wanted very much to purchase a piece (or pieces) by a young, female artist and we were able to do just that, and found a match that was perfect for us. We are thrilled to have not just beautiful artworks gracing our home, but most of all to have found an artist whose career we feel invested in and whose work we feel proud to display. Thanks to Sugarlift for making that process possible, for educating us along the way and bringing the entire experience to life!

It'd been there not that less longer than I lived in the area, so I was somewhat surprised I hadn't seen it before. Janet is a solid curator. She specializes in abstract art, especially painting and somesuch. But once in awhile, she trafficks in sculpture. We ventured in during a sculpture exhibition. The show was impressive. Janet explained the firing and glazing of the works, and there was a nice installation of fired skulls or heads. You need to go here, if not just to see what we missed.

Claude Gallery's prices are really unbelievable. They are a fraction (literally) of what I have paid other places. Also, Arthur has great taste and patience, and I am always pleased with the results. Honestly, I would not go anywhere else.
