When the floods hit my rental property was riddled with black mould (I was trapped in ipswhich on Friday the 25th trying to pick my kids up) I was stuck for 4 days. I noticed it Coming from the ceilings mostly and some wet carpet in one room my daughters room age 2. I suspect from the roof as it's in a bedroom away from the window and also on the ceilings plus I'm a licensed waterproofer & Tiler. So I have an idea of water leaks.
I provided proof, they attended the property and told me "you obviously can't live in a mould house" and saying "we will get it all fixed so you can live here again" Later on emailing me saying they never said that and the property is fine and that I caused the damage from leaving a couple windows open. Despite the mould being on ceilings and walls in rooms without windows and obviously mould and wet marks on ceilings.
I was smart enough to record the face to face inspection (legal aid advised me I could and stated it's legal in Queensland as long as your part of the conversation). I contacted legal aid as I had been burnt once before by a real estate agent, different circumstances however.
The windows are covered by 600mm of roof all around the house. Over $5000 of my belongings destroyed, drip marks and mould from ceilings, drip marks on my couch which is centre to the room over 1m from windows and nearly $1000 in wages lost attempting to clean it myself and do the right thing by the owner but it's just too much.
I was told by them over the phone today if I don't like it go to the RTA or I can leave the property and sent me notice to leave and told me the owners are being "very generous by allowing me to leave"
Before I caught them in the lie, The notice to leave was issued as I asked for waived/reduced rent whilst I cannot live there (mouldmen booked out for 3 weeks and 2 of my kids are immune compromised) and I must pay rent in FULL plus pay to stay elsewhere in the meantime. They refused as did the owner and said it's my fault.
I asked if they would release my bond so I could? They said not till you vacate and minus wear and tear and pending a clean. How can one clean a mould infested property, when they directed me not to clean it and let mould men assess it and deal with it?
I said I cannot afford it right now they said "well you said you received $1000 from the government grant for your destroyed possessions so why don't you use that" it's not what she said it's how she spoke to me. Any agent knows $1000 doesn't cover bond for a single father of 4 anywhere in Queensland.
Very disappointed what kind of real estate property lie to their tenants and treat them like dirt. I thought Australians are meant to unite as one and work together not against each other.
You'll see in the photos the carpet Timbers are ROTTED. Another photo you'll see a fan and ceiling with the outline of the door frame and me standing at the window taking the photo shows the mould on the opposite side of the room. The roof is infested with mould, no insulation, no sarking (builders paper under roof tiles)
I'm devastated that this is how a single working father is treated by paying his bills and I cannot even have my kids in my home or with me for the short term future and miss my time with them with no sympathy, compassion or even a thank you for my efforts to clean the property for them and the owner.
My daughters are immune compromised so I cannot have them at my house.
The owner Anthony defended every issue saying they did nothing wrong even when I was sent notice to leave after reporting repairs and asking for help
