This was our second time attending an art show opening at the Bridgeport Art Center. Other than two popular event venues, namely the Skyline Loft on the 5th floor and the Sculpture Garden on the first floor, the huge building also provides art studios and office spaces, and two spacious art galleries on the 3rd and 4th floors. Both times we attended the art openings on the 4th floor by taking a manned-freight elevator from the 1st floor. The first time we went two years ago, there was a public ticketed event going on. So, there were long lines just getting into the building. This time we arrived at 8:00 pm for a 7:00 - 10:00 pm opening, they had the entrance on the side of the building, and there were no lines. We attended "The Landscape is Changing" art exhibition that runs from July 18 to September 5, 2025 on the 4th Floor Gallery. It featured multimedia artworks from 101 contributing artist. There were paintings, photos, 3-D art, and sculptures that depicted natural and man-made structures of our surroundings, inspired and influenced by the landscape. The galleries were spacious and well-lit, and the exhibitions well-planned and professionally done. Since refreshments and beverages were on the 3rd floor, we decided to go down one floor by taking the stairs instead of the freight elevator. However, be prepared to go through quiet hallways of storage spaces that felt like a maze and adventure. It was nice that all the spaces were clean and well-maintained. However, I hope Bridgeport Art Center would look into improving the air conditioning in the art gallery spaces. Two years ago, it was hot and miserable during a hot summer night. This year, we were lucky that we had an exceptionally cool summer evening, that the outside temperature was only in the 70s. But the inside of the galleries was not too hot, but still on the warm side. I saw a couple of ladies fanning themselves with paper or something in their hands, while complaining about being too warm. However, other parts of the building could be nice and cool, that included their office. When we were leaving, the freight elevator door opened on the 5th floor, where a wedding reception was going on, we could feel a nice blast of cold air getting into the elevator. I highly recommend "The Landscape is Changing" art exhibition with free admission and runs until September 5, 2025, but please check the weather forecast and pick a cool day so that your experience will be more enjoyable. read more

We were here for a wedding in the Skyline loft within the Bridgeport Art Center. The venue was very nice and the staff was fantastic. Overall it was one of the better weddings that I've attended. There is a secure parking lot outside and then you enter on the lower level. There was a coat check and a freight elevator. You got on the elevator and are handed a glass from an in-elevator bar. We got water, but I'm sure you could do champaign. There was a a conversion of the ceremony room into the dining room. While this happened there were appetizers and drinks in the entry hallway. This took maybe 45 minutes which was reasonable. The venue was large, and could have easily held another 100 people. There is a lot of exposed brick and wood and very high ceiling. There was a live band and the acoustics were pretty good. You have a great view of downtown (thus the "Skyline" name. The even location gets very close to five stars, probably four and a half. The appetizers and drinks were very good. The main meal was fine but honestly not that good. Overall thought it was a great wedding. read more

What a stunning space! I attended a wedding here this past weekend and was blown away by Bridgeport Art Center. The space is very large with many rooms used for various purposes (art classes, coworking spaces, etc), but my experience was in the Skyloft. We boarded a really cool old-timey elevator to get to the event space. It was huge, held around 20-30 people, had an operator working it, and even had a bar! The actual event space is stunning. Incredible views of the city from the Southside, tons of natural light, and incredibly spacious. The ceremony was absolutely beautiful, and the space, despite open, has some pockets they could block off with curtains for a cocktail hour while they quickly flipped the room for the reception. All the food we ate was INCREDIBLE! As was the staff, always keeping our glasses full and clearing plates. The cherry on top is the enormous and free parking lot! I can't wait to explore more events happening here at the Bridgeport Art Center. read more

My husband and I just got married at the Skyline Loft. I want to start by making it clear that this SHOULD have been a 5 star review. Everything about the day was flawless except for one major thing - which I'll get to in a moment. I do want to start with the positives. The venue is gorgeous. The high ceilings and open space is beautiful and the production company we used (Art of Imagination) was easily able to make this beautiful space exactly what we wanted for our wedding. The views of the skyline are unmatched and it was perfect to see the skyline during the day and then be able to see the skyline at night which was made even more beautiful by the string lights hanging across the ceiling. The venue was also incredibly responsive to our many requests prior to wedding day. The reason that I am giving Bridgeport 2 stars rather than the 5 stars I wish I could give them is that the freight elevator was broken. My husband and I chose this venue SOLELY for the beautiful freight elevator with a gorgeous chandelier and most importantly a bar serving champagne as guests arrived. We both agreed that this would perfectly set the fun and festive tone for the rest of our wedding. There were many beautiful venues we loved but truly nothing as unique as being served a welcome champagne in such a beautiful elevator. I first heard there was trouble the day before the wedding. We arrived in the morning to drop things off and I found that the freight elevator was a mess and had numerous maintenance men working on it. It seemed that the venue had not planned to tell me the elevator was down until I discovered it myself. They said it would be fixed by 2PM. I asked for a text message or call as soon as possible with an update, so my coordinator and I could figure out a plan B if the elevator were not working. I still had not heard from her around 3pm which is when I began calling. After a few calls, I was able to get in touch with our venue contact. She explained that the main freight elevator was "fixed but would not be used" as the maintenance team could not guarantee its safety. At this time, she stated that the plan would be to use the smaller freight elevator. It would still have a bar and they were nice enough to move the beautiful chandelier. However, it was smaller so there would have to be more trips taken in order to transport all of our guests to the venue. We were disappointed but happy we could still have the experience we were hoping for. When we arrived a few hours later for the rehearsal, I saw a maintenance man on the smaller freight elevator. I turned to our venue contact and said "this elevator IS working right?!" She said "of course, we're just checking a few things because it hasn't been used in a long time." Turns out - the smaller freight elevator was tested that evening and allegedly working. However, on wedding day, as SOON as my guests started arriving, it was deemed to no longer be working. Therefore, my guests had to ride the back elevator that is quite literally the opposite of the beautiful freight elevator we dreamed of. It has carpeted walls and is the truly the most industrial elevator you could imagine. A long line formed for this elevator and as a result, a few dozen of our guests climbed the 5 flights of stairs in their formal attire to ensure they made it to our ceremony on time. Furthermore, once the guests arrived at the space, it took the bar a long time to start serving champagne before the ceremony, and several guests had to keep asking if and when the bar would open. Eventually, shortly before the ceremony, they were able to have a few servers pass wine and champagne. Not only was this beautiful freight elevator experience the reason we chose this venue, but we had also told all of our guests to anticipate a glass of champagne from a beautiful elevator bar. Not only were all of our guests expecting this experience, but they arrived early to the wedding (4:15-4:30) as we instructed in order to experience it. Thus, not only were we incredibly let down by the situation, but it felt like we were letting our guests down as well. Our wedding was beautiful, and I'm so happy to be married to my husband. Bridgeport did give us some financial compensation but not nearly what my husband and I feel is fair. If they had given us more, this would probably be a 4 star review. I really wish I could give Bridgeport 4 or 5 stars but since this was supposed to be such a pivotal part of our day, I cannot. read more

This is exactly why old buildings should not be immediately torn down and replaced with something new. They just don't build places like this anymore. These old big open loft spaces can be repurposed into beautiful modern spaces for art galleries, entertainment venues, art classes, ... which is exactly what happened here. The building is beautiful and the rented rooms for events is a beautiful space. I attended a wedding here a week ago and had a great time. I had such a great time that I forgot to take any photos of the venue for this review! But to be honest, the pictures that others have posted are very good. The staff was very nice and friendly, and the food was very good. If you are looking for a beautiful space in which to host an event, then don't overlook this beautiful space for your next planned special occasion. Fashion Shows, Sip & Sew Classes, Ceramic Classes & Paint Classes. A Big Loft that is a maze of fun. It gets pretty Hot in some areas of the loft so wear some light clothing in the summer time. Such a beautiful place to host or even attend events. Great Night for a date or just come hang out by yourself to witness some impress artwork displayed on many different levels of the loft. There is even a wine station located on each floor of every level for you to walk around and get your sip on. We went on a Friday night for their holiday market before thanksgiving and while some of the art exhibits were really cool, especially the interactive sound exhibit on the 4th floor, it was kind of disappointing compared to what I heard this used to be pre-COVID on Friday nights with a really cool energy and celebrating art and all who came. The crowd was a little pretentious some of the exhibits, especially the one on the 3rd floor, where it felt like we were crashing a private party rather than coming to a public art exhibit. read more

I was here for the Epilepsy Foundation fundraiser which was...a fundraiser. But the space was amazing, checked in to the north side and rode up the industry elevator (while pestered for money) to the amazing large dining/social space, beautifully decorated, with a great AV system and views of the city sprawl. It's amazing that such a cavernous building can host so many things. I will have to come back to explore more of the art spaces and other things inside. read more

Stopped by the Bridgeport Art Center last Friday for their art event which takes place every 3rd Friday of the month. It was my first time at BAC and I really enjoyed my experience! It's an old loft space and at some points it felt like a maze walking through the galleries, which can be confusing at some points but easy to (eventually) figure out. BEWARE We recently attended a wedding there, although the atmosphere was beautiful & magical, we discovered several of the wedding envelopes were missing! One of the guests even caught a worker red-handed hiding an envelope taken from the wedding box under a napkin! The Manager was notified immediately and you would think she would have fired him on the spot, nope, he continued to work. Beautiful event space on the top floor (6th?). I was stunned that this building stood alone with a clear view of the Chicago skyline. And there were elevator attendants! The building must be a non-conforming use with a blown-out floor area ratio. The wedding that we attended was beautiful and elegant which indicates great planning and great catering which probably has less to do with the actual event space. I was here, at the Skyline Lofts, for a Cooper's Hawk event last night. It is a great event space! Even though it's a large space with high ceilings, they do a great job of making it feel intimate. The coolest part, in my opinion, was the elevator ride up. It's a huge freight-like elevator with a chandelier, and because it's an open setup you get to see the walls pass by you on the way up. Super cool way to make an entrance! The space is large enough that it could all be used for one giant event, or broken up into smaller areas. I would say if you had multiple events sound would be an issue, as the dividers they were using for this event were just cloth. Since it was all the same event it was fine, but I could see trying to have multiple competing groups there would be an issue. Overall though, great and unique space. read more

We had the pleasure of attending a wedding here on Saturday night. We didn't know what to expect but were blown away with the facility. First pleasant experience was driving up and being waved into fenced in parking. The attendant verified which event we were attending and bam, we were parked and on our way in. I really enjoyed the rustic feel of the building as we entered. Exposed brick, beams and high high ceilings. Plus the restrooms were super cool and plentiful. No lines the whole night for the ladies room, I don't think I've ever had that pleasure before. The wedding was delightful, nicely ventilated and great sound. We walked back out to the outdoor cocktail area that was shielded with terrific huge white panels. The food was delicious and plentiful and there was plenty of room to spread out. We went back into the main area for dinner and it had been transformed into a twinkling fairy land. What a versatile space. As a guest, this was a flawless experience. If you're getting married, I would check it out. read more

I have been here twice and I hope to come back soon to help volunteer with the Green Star Movement which is one of businesses located within the building. The reason I gave this building 4 stars is because this building is one big maze and it was hard to find someone to even ask for help. I had a fabulous time looking at the artwork and sculptures that were inside the building. They had a collection of art called loved ones they were all amazing. I volunteered with Green Star Movement but they do offer classes for people who want to do mosasic art which is pretty cool. Green Star Movement had opportunities for groups to volunteer as well if I'm not mistaken but you can check out their website www.greenstarmovement.org The piece that we were working on will be in the 18th ward of Chicago, but they have done several mosasic murals throughout Chicago to help beautify the neighborhood. I believe it is a great idea and is better than looking at graffiti and cracked walls under the viaducts, schools and buildings. Remember the art center has an array of businesses within it so you should check it out. Please dont forget about Green Star Movement they want to make a change one piece of beautiful art at a time. Fabulous Job Bridgeport Art Center!!!! just spent the best day at the one of the best Lofts Galleries Warehouses in Chicago. Not sure 100% what the building actually is but there are restaurants/kitchens tons of space with pretty spectacular views especially from the top floor. This place also has a really good coffee shop inside with passionhouse coffee which is a plus. Tons of Art Galleries.. During my visit the renegade art fair was taking place which was so fun because tons of artist were selling merchandise and I wanted to buy everything!!!! I bought some Barreled Honey which was super tasty and some spices believe it or not but they also had other items such as jewelry and painting ect ect... To sum it up this place was super pretty and I would defiantly hold an event there and will go back soon to check out other events! 5 stars for this Chicago go gem!!! read more

Theres always a lot of do at the Bridgeport Art Center, and rather than comment on each company, since I've only interacted with a few, I'll talk more about the center itself. Every third Friday they have Open Studios, where most of the artists open up their doors and you can talk with them. They always have new art;some of it looks awesome, and some weird, though I suppose it's subjective. They usually have free wine and sometimes free snacks too, which is great. Best thing is it is free. It can get busy, and it's easy to get lost, but otherwise open Studios is a great event to go to. The event spaces are pretty cool looking too, but I've never attended an official private event, so I can't comment on those. The Renegade Craft Fair is cool, but extremely packed. And I went to the soft opening of 5ASE coffee shop (think I spelled that right, and that place was pretty awesome. All in all, I say this place is worth seeing, in one way or another. read more

We had our wedding ceremony and reception at the Bridgeport Art Center - Sculpture Garden Gallery in late June. The venue is beyond beautiful and can be customized for many events. We were very happy with the way the ceremony and reception turned out; our pictures were great! We opted for an outdoor ceremony to make use of the long, brick-paved outdoor space. There is a wire 'bird cage' that comes with the venue as well, adding to the overall ambiance. We worked with Gretchen to see the venue and thru us booking it. After that she was very responsive even though Kate was our main contact. Kate was also very quick to respond to emails and to answer all of our questions. Tania was in charge of the bar and was also very responsive. There was a bit of back and forth on pricing, setting a date and clarifying a few pieces of the contract which is the only reason I give them 4 stars instead of 5. The venue can be expensive and we felt a bit rushed in signing the contract. While I would absolutely recommend booking this venue for a wedding or large event, make sure you take into the actual venue fee, the bar fee and that catering is not included. They are very hands-off for day-of so we had to get a wedding coordinator. They do provide a 'venue coordinator' but realize that they will only deal with venue related issues or questions. When doing alot of the planning it almost felt as though they just wanted us to sign the contract then have minimal contact until 10 days beforehand. Once again, we LOVED the venue and would recommend it to others. Everyone we dealt with was very pleasant but we felt we should note the ambiguity at points during the planning process for anyone else going into our situation. read more

Received a email back saying "I am afraid that the Skyline Loft will not be a good fit for your budget, we wish you good luck with your search". I guess when making the request for more information they asked what my budget was. Newho... I was a bit offended... not sure why but I was. The pictures online looks great and many people have given this place great reviews. I'm putting this in the no pile for me... tooo pricey and I don't really need all of the space. My husband and I got married at the Skyline Loft last month and I will definitely say it was absolutely beautiful and everything ran very smoothly on the day of the event. Our guests were more than impressed with the space and the amazing views. That said, the lack of communication leading up to the day between myself/wedding coordinator and the people at Bridgeport was frustrating. I understand that it's a relatively new venue and kinks are probably still being worked out, but we had to send at least half a dozen emails just to confirm that our final payment was received, which seemed a bit absurd seeing as all we wanted to do was give them our money. At the end of the day it all came together really well and the people on site the day of were more than helpful, so I really can't complain too much. My only recommendation is if you're planning to have a wedding/event here, definitely hire a coordinator who will handle the communication (or lack thereof) for you because it's just one more thing you don't want to deal with when planning a big event. read more

I feel like I should write two reviews for the Skyline loft. I just got married there and the venue at night with candles and a view of the Chicago skyline was amazing. The whole space was beautiful and amazing and I would have our wedding there again in a heartbeat because of the unique, gorgeous space. On the other hand, the communication with the staff and customer service was severely lacking. It would take days or longer for emails with simple questions to be returned (we finally had to call to be sure our final payment was received) and our one request for them on our wedding day (to clip all the curtains in the venue together) went unfulfilled so we had to do it ourselves moments before the ceremony with clothespins. I have heard through the grapevine that this space is becoming more popular for weddings and is getting booked up. I suspect that they have or will raise their prices. That, combined with the fact that you can no longer bring in your own alcohol for your event like we were able to, means future customers will have to pay a lot more than we did for the use of the space. I hope for your sake that the level of customer service rises with the price. The ancillary staff that was at the venue on our big day was very nice and helpful. It seems to be only management who struggles with their job. read more

We had our wedding here in the Sculpture Garden space and wow! What a fantastic space! We loved that the garden area was covered so we weren't worried about rain but still had the outdoor feel. We used the garden area for the ceremony and it was a perfect space. In general, Bridgeport Art Center is fantastic for making it your own - as over the top or as minimal as you'd like! The architecture and industrial feel is the perfect backdrop for whatever else you want to do with the space. Kate and the rest of the team there took great care of us. My band played a corporate party at this venue. The person who was running the freight elevator that night was very rude. He disappeared while we were loading and then was very mad that we took the elevator without him. Helpful. After performing, the operator of the personnel elevator (a different guy) was quite duplicitous. I asked him to hold the elevator for me for 1 minute to roll a cart in from 200 ft away and he said 'ok' and then just left. Thanks. Lastly, I was treated like a criminal because I re-entered the building through a propped door that the aforementioned freight elevator operator claimed to have 'just locked'. Instead of going to look at the situation that he obviously had no control over or current information on, he tried to interrogate me about how I 'got in the building'. I kept trying to walk away from this hate-breeder and finally succeeded. This situation had given me the same feeling as being pulled over by the police but I tried to shake it off and have a good time. Later I was conversing with some gentlemen who were smoking outside and the freight elevator troll made an appearance. He was shown that the door gets propped constantly. He then lectured my friends about not propping the door (they had not) and while leaving left me with an ad hominem attack. The venue is cool and the bathrooms are unique (in a good way). Since the space is so reverberant and boxy it is hard to get good sound. (Here's a tip to sound engineers: don't point the speakers down the longest axis of the space.) But before booking here, make sure you know who is going to staff your night and that they know they are working for you. Accept no buzz-cut caucasian thugs. read more

Bridgeport Art Center was the perfect venue for our recent November wedding. The Skyline Loft was beautiful, unique, and large enough for everything we needed. In addition to the venue itself, the staff at Bridgeport were great and a huge help throughout the wedding planning process and the night off. Specifically, Tania, was a huge help on the day of, she was there to make sure everything ran smoothly and everything was taken care of. Thank you Kate, Tania and all of the staff at BAC! Our wedding day was absolutely unforgettable. This venue (Sculpture Garden) was our one and only pick from the beginning. If you are looking for a raw, classic place to design your wedding anyway that you would like to, this is where you want to be. Of course, all of our vendors helped to make the day unbelievably beautiful but it all started with the historic canvas of the Sculpture Garden's indoor and outdoor space. The staff is extremely caring and flexible to work with you as necessary. Other things that you don't think about right away such as parking, bathrooms, table and chair rentals and green rooms for the bridal party...you get it all. Ample parking, gorgeous and brand new restroom facilities, stunning bridal party rooms in the back with a secure door code, PLUS there was even a parking attendant outside signaling cars and directing guests. From the minute our guests pulled down Racine, their experience was pleasant and seamless. Nothing can replace watching their faces as they entered the vintage elevator shaft into our wedding reception. It is one month after our wedding and our guests will not stop talking about the Bridgeport Art Center Sculpture Garden and how they were absolutely blown away by this venue. After researching approximately 80 Chicago venues and touring 8, we landed on the Sculpture Garden at Bridgeport Art Center for our October 15, 2022 wedding and we are so incredibly happy we did. The ceremony space truly takes your breath away and the reception space is the perfect canvas for any vision. The staff was responsive the entire planning process, allowing us to stop by the space for additional tours and set up our walkthrough earlier than a couple weeks out. Eleanor was helpful in answering our questions and making sure we were able to bring every element to life. Working with Art of Imagination, experts on this space, really made our entire vision become reality. Our hotel block was at the Hilton Chicago and the Blackstone on Michigan avenue and it was easy to book a shuttle for our guests to and from the event space. I came here for a wedding a few weeks ago. The ceremony was outside in the courtyard and it was super distracting to have the traffic driving by the whole time. The inside was nice but the dance floor was a bit narrow. Overall it was great I just probably would have recommended to have the wedding facing the other way so that the bride/groom weren't so close to the street! read more

This is such a great space for events. I had the pleasure of visiting here for a wedding. The space is very spacious and accommodating. The lighting in the early evening has such beauty. We had a wonderful time enjoying the wedding and also the staff that coordinated the venue, they did a fantastic job! This place is perfect for events! The structure of the building is so unique from the walls to the bathroom doors. I've been because my organization rented out the place for a celebratory night (catering, photo-booth, open bar and all!) but I will definitely return just to hang out around the exhibit. read more

I take my pottery classes here. I love it, the location is nice and has a free parking lot. Jay owns and teaches some of the pottery classes and is awesome and always willing to answer any of your questions. The pottery studio is very nice and has about maybe 20 electric pottery wheels, 4 power wash sinks to clean up. And plenty of class clay to use. read more
