I hosted a baby shower at Space 1858 and absolutely loved the space and working with the event manager was easy and manageable. The space itself is beautiful and open. The front of the space is white with a lot of windows to allow in light for any event. The windows are lined with white, airy curtains that allow light in but give privacy to the attendees. There is a cool brick wall on one side of the space. The back portion of the space includes a kitchenette (no stove) and a space for all of the chairs/tables. A long hallway leads to the back entrance where the trashcans and recycling bins are located. The management includes cleaning supplies, a broom, trash bags, and a ladder. I loved the DIY nature of this rental. You can decide to bring in your own food or have it catered by any company you choose. Since the space is small it would work best for groups of 50 or less and even less depending on the type of seating. More layout and seating info on their site. Logistics- The management puts everything in writing and explains everything in detail so that the day of logistics is seamless. The bathroom is well stocked with toilet paper and hand towels. If you decide to have alcohol you must buy alcohol insurance (more info on their site). You cannot tack, velcro, or 3M stick to their walls. If you do so, there is a fine, or you can purchase more insurance to use whatever materials you want (more info on their site). You will also need to purchase event insurance. All info on their site and on the contract. You will need to clean the space after your event. However, management does have a cleaning crew come in before each event to clean up (so the space is clean for you when you arrive). A word of advice- 1) If you host in winter, you'll need an additional coat rack. 2) If you decide on half-day rental, give yourself enough time to organize, decorate, and clean up at the end. There was another event in the evening on when I hosted my shower and we hauled ass to get everything cleaned in time. 3) Not completely ADA accessible (there is one stair up through every door). However, the bathroom is large and fits a wheelchair. Also, our guest used the back entrance to bring her chair in. It worked well for her. All in all, I would recommend as a small events venue/space. read more

I can't say enough good things about this venue! My husband and I looked everywhere for the right space for our wedding and Space 1858 was perfect. The room is essentially a blank slate, which allowed us to do the decorating we wanted. It's well-lit. It's incredibly well-priced and they allowed us to bring our own caterer and beverages. It was easy to plug a laptop into their sound system for our wedding and reception soundtrack, and our guests had a blast. The kitchen is a bit small but it worked fine for cold appetizers. Christina was very helpful in making it available for viewing numerous times. We will have beautiful memories of our wedding day forever, and working with Space 1858 was one of the easiest parts of planning the wedding--stress-free, which we really needed! read more

Where do I start! The process of renting was pretty smooth! The venue is spacious and perfect for any type of event! We had a 30th birthday party here on 9/9. The event was absolutely perfect! Being able to have your own liquor is very helpful and easy to manage. You can decorate any way you want, so be creative! The only negative thing I have to say about this venue is, the communication between management and clients is kind of slow. I'd have to email two times before getting a response. Also the venue isn't completely spotless, the curtains had holes and the walls were dirty. Tiana Washington did rectify that situation and she has been helpful through the entire process! Despite the small things, I give five stars because our event was amazing! I definitely recommend this space to anyone with an upcoming event! read more

I came here for a private party. I was NOT involved in the preparation of the party, and I don't know how much this place costs to rent out. My review is solely based on the visuals of the space and location. I recently hosted an alumni event and fundraiser here, and I'm so glad to have found them! The rental fee was affordable, the manager (Erin) was helpful and flexible, and the space itself is adorable. It was the perfect size for our group (about 30 people) and they were able to accommodate our caterer. The space easily adapts to any decorative style. Erin really set us up with everything we needed - INCLUDING a brand new sound system after testing the old one and finding it not working. Seriously awesome customer service! I had a retirement party for my parents here recently and it was the perfect venue for the amount of people invited. Location was good. Parking was easy. Facility was clean. I booked this venue in April 2016 to host my 40th birthday party October 15th. This venue was very affordable, convenient, beautiful and completely DIY which is what we wanted. I worked with Tiana for my event and met with Peter for the final walk through etc and it was an overrall great experience. There were delays with response to emails but that could have been due to the transition of event coordinators. My guests loved the space and so did I. Will definitely book this venue again for a celebration. read more

Fantastic space that can be transformed!! On December 6th, I hosted my mother's 60th Birthday Celebration at Space 1858. We got rave reviews from everyone that attended. Space 1858 is TRULY a hidden gem that deserves the recognition. The owner and staff were extremely helpful and flexible. I threw my fiance's big 30th bday party here, and it was the perfect space to transform any way you want! There are no restrictions and coordinating with Erin in the days leading up to the event was easy. She was also very flexible. One slight issue that came up was that we were told that we could clean up the next day (our party was from 10PM-2AM), but the owner ended up booking the space for a morning party. Erin stepped up, however, and said that she could come early in the morning to clean up our party for us and move all our stuff to the back to be picked up later the next day. We ended up doing most of the cleaning right after the party ended, but we appreciated her offer! There was also some cool artwork of Chicago hanging up the night of our party, which was an unexpected treat, as was the thoughtful bottle of vodka that they left us. We received so many compliments about the party and the space, and I know several people wanted more information on how they could book the space as well. We had about 65-70 people, with a DJ setup, photobooth setup and bar/food setup, and there was plenty of space. I was initially worried about the size of the space, but we probably could've fit in another 10-15 people without feeling cramped. There is also a kitchen in the back and you can add on by renting a separate smaller room, which is what we used as our coat check/gift storage. My org, Let's Vibe, hosted our kick-off event - "Vibe Out" - a networking event at Space 1858 for about 40 young, diverse women who were embarking on their career journey and needed a space to share, connect, and progress. The event was held on August 1st and it was AMAZING. We specifically needed a space to host us and also allow us to vibe out, move freely, and create a fly community; a space that was chic, welcoming, and transformative. Space 1858 was perfect, and our guests (including our sponsors) truly enjoyed the space! There was also free street parking so (of course) that was a plus. We could not have had a more perfect location, space, and host for our kick-off. Erin and her manager were beyond gracious and took care of all of our needs (early set-up time, tools, kitchen access, high tops and rectangular chair rentals, everything). The space provided a dynamic, homey feel with the light walls that became more focused as they connected to the brown brick wall in the space. We set up the food along the brick wall, our high tops throughout the center of the space, and art along the high window sills. We loved the openness from the glass windows that stretched from the ceiling to the ground in the front of the space. Our event was during the summer from about 6 to 8pm so we had the night to day effect, which worked perfectly with the lights that we were able to dim and adjust. Our colors were Turquoise Blue and Royal Purple, accented with Black. We had music playing as well; there's a sound system that you can easily plug your phone or ipod into located towards the back of the space (near the kitchen), which could be separated from the rest of the space by closing a door. Overall, I definitely recommend Space 1858 for ALL occasions since the space can be transformed so easily to suit everything from a gorgeous wedding to a networking event for 40 young, diverse 20-somethings. As an off premise caterer, we are always looking for great spaces for our client's events. The space is beautiful, brick walls, wood floors and well lit. The owner is super easy and a pleasure to work with. It is brand new, has a small kitchen, easy parking and we have catered corporate open houses, social birthday parrties and book readings and all have been fabulous events. The staff were friendly, very open to ideas and willing to help us connect with some other event partners that would work with our budget. HORRIBLE SERVICE!!!!!!! My event started 2 hours late because Tiana Washington booked someone else the same time she booked me. She said she would give me a partial refund and has ditched my calls and emails ever since. My guest stood outside as we all tried to set up. My baby shower was a complete disaster. I cried the entire time. This place is a joke, the owner is never around- you will never talk to him or meet him. BE CAREFUL! Just trying to help others out because I wish I would've gotten advice before I booked with the venue. read more
