They have taken care of me and I have nothing but good things to say about them. Today I met with a nutritionist to discuss nutritional options I should be doing. Had a good friend (I'm listed as next of kin) in the burn center for 9 days. I visited 6 of those days and always had an above average experience. Unfortunately that ended on Saturday when he was going to be released. The woman who sat at the nurses station and answered the intercom and buzzed people into the center jumped up as I was about to enter the room and told me I needed a gown and mask. I informed her that I hadn't needed one on any of the other visits and basically he would be sitting in a car a foot away from me when he is released. She very rudely told me that it was posted (just today?) I got a gown and mask and went in the room and sat down. She then obviously informed the nurse. Enter nurse Claudine, full of attitude (with no gown or mask) telling me to put the gown on because the patient had just finished dialysis. He and I both knew that he had been done with dialysis for at least 2 hours. When we both mentioned that he had been done for hours, she tried her best to argue with us both. I believe now that the gown and mask were necessary DURING dialysis which once again had been over with hours ago. Neither the woman at the desk or the nurse should be working with people, let alone patients and their visitors. read more

I started out by going to a walk-in in milford at 6:00 pm wed night. They sent me to Bridgeport Emergency Room thinking I may have a blockage and if I did they had the surgery options I would need at that location. I arrived at the emegency room at 7:45pm and was admitted by one nice nurse who looked like she had had a rough day. No smiles, no small talk just check in and get vitals. Then I was shuffled into a room where two people went over my information. Then I was sent to waiting room, then sometime in the 8 o'clock hour I was called in given an IV for dehydration. Was put into a hallway where my husband and I sat until I got called to go for catscan which was done by a nice girl Danielle. The hallways were filled with beds and chairs filled with patients not a seat to be had. The catscan took about two minutes it was easy and the staff was kind there. Then I was told to go back to the IV set up this was all about 10pm. A little nurse came into the hallway yelling about The chairs we were sitting in to everyone. She then sent my husband into the main waiting room and me to a holding room. Where other patients had their spouses or loved ones. Some were even eating pizza and snacks as I was waiting to see results of the test I just took.Another Patient (Blind man) Started yelling and Staff ignored him until he got so upset he wanted to get attention. My husband came back into the room after he saw that other people were walkinginto the room. I texted him I was getting anxious because of the situation. One Patients mother asked when her daughter was going to be seen and the nurse was curt and said a 5 hour wait. it was now 11:45 and my husband asked how many people in front of me and while I was higher on the list it was still going to be a 3-5 hour wait. I was like wow, I can't do this I want to go home. The person who told us that the wait was going to be that long was like oh well, didn't go to any doctor and ask what's the deal she just removed my IV and said go. So I did. No discharge papers or any information ... my husband and I are in the parking lot and someone comes running out after me to see I have no needles in my arms. INSANITY! Who is running the ER? Thursday morning I call the hospital wanting my results I get sent from one station to the next and then I ended up at the discharge nurse where I wasn't even discharged on Thursday Am. So got a voicemail to leave a message.@9am Fast forward 10am I was brought back to ER because my husband insisted they had my test results and that is where I should go. I walk in and had to register and vital check and repeat procedure. Mary the nurse was there and she was the only true professional I had dealt with so far in my experience. I was then told my problem given an IV and some pain medication. Mary took the time to talk to me got a doctor to speak to me and it went like it should of the night before. The women who took out my IV the night before was still there on her shift and came over to metaled to me as if I was a child saying it was not her fault for sending me home the night before. She wasn't very truthful, I am a 62 year old woman who was dressed okay and wasn't bleeding.So send me home, I didn't know if I had a blocked intestine no results and no offer to get them. It was a different experience both days. No clear Protocol other than check in procedures. There has to be a more humane way to deal with people who are hurting and in pain. Bridgeport hospital has a few superstars but the people standing around talking about only having 6 patients all shift and how cute their dog is, and letting people leave when they could have done the right thing and just ask the doctor on duty for results. IT LEADS ME TO BELIVE YOU KEEP PATIENTS LONGER FOR MONITERY GAIN. Not for the health and well being of the human you are caring for, very sad and unacceptable. read more

I want to make a comment. Gentleman said he brought an elderly patient to hospital. Patient was not treated appropriately. He said patient was cooperative. Had issue with hearing. Very poor communication between some of the nurses and patient. Nurses should be trained in psychology and elder care. If they're lucky, some day they might be elderly. Patients are often frightened and fragile. The patient always comes first.. You treat patient with dignity and respect. You listen, which is a lost art. Obviously, the person is in the hospital for a reason. Nursing is an art. Some are gifted and kind. Some are not. The human touch heals. read more

As other reviewers said, there are some wonderful kind caring nurses and staff at this hospital, and they deserve alot of credit. The majority of them are great. One nurse was extremely rude, and the dr I saw had zero sense of urgency, I wonder if that's why the wait was so long? However the emergency room on a recent visit was not at all good. Many sick people on top of each other in the waiting room. During the many hours waiting, no cleaning staff sanitizing anything. The bathrooms were filthy and smelled like stale urine. Very late on running prelim triage tests, had to remind staff. Follow up questions not responded to. read more

They violently moved my sister from one bed to another broke her shoulder and fractured hip. Staff that moved her was very rude and shrugged their shoulders like o well. I had to go up hospital and ask for her to be moved away from them. They did that within an hour. Not going back to that hospital. Lawyers of course said no case. Getting my flu shot nice and quick and professional very informative and good care love the staff

I am shocked at the poor level of care at this hospital. An elderly family member was admitted recently and spent about a week as in-patient. This patient was not able to sit up on their own and on multiple occasions, their food was delivered and sat there getting cold while calling staff for help and didnt get it. Patient needed to go to the bathroom, rang for help, and nobody would come. They moved this patient from one floor to another at 1am with no explanation. Family told staff multiple times that the patient does not hear well and needs then to speak loudly, none of them seemed to be aware. After leaving the room, the patient would turn to one of us and say "what did they say"? Several of the nurses who came in during the week explained that they are floaters, staff who cover sick calls from other staff and work at all the different facilities. IMO, this causes a lack of care due to unfamiliarity with the facilities, other staff at the location, etc. My own conclusion is that the hospital is woefully understaffed. I have had very good experiences with Yale facilities in New Haven but Bridgeport Hospital was not even close to being on par with those. Before you jump to a conclusion that this family member is an obnoxious pain of a patient, this is not the case. This patient is not demanding or rude, rather, a quiet person who is normally reluctant to take help from anyone. Bridgeport Hospital needs to do much better. read more

They killed my dad by giving him an extra dose of morphine right after the first dose. Obviously they didn't write it on the chart because different nurses gave him that. Then they acted like nothing ever happened. The nurses also turned off his button on his bed and laughed when he was in pain and was groaning. Then when my mom went in when she was sick, they were supposed to walk her every day to build her muscles back up and they just let her sit in bed the whole time. This place needs a lawsuit! They killed my father and then brought him back with Narcan and never told him what happened. read more

this has been the most difficult hospital stay to say the least. I will say the nurses and Doctors have been great but the waiting for tests, transport, food has been so upsetting. it's bad enough you're here to add to your stress you have to wait for any given tests for days not hours DAYS!!! I went down for an ultrasound and was left in a hallway for one plus hours waiting to be brought back to my room. As complete strangers walked past shrugging and paying no mind. Only to come up to no food. Waiting for food for hours, not getting dinner until 8:45 at night. Not only worrying for your health but a test to relieve your mind took four days. I'm so sad that this is the only thing that gave me some sort of relief from my anxiety having to stay here in Bridgeport Hospital. read more

I went to the Emergency Room on May 6 2024. Was admitted for metabolic acidosis. I'm on dialysis and they gave me 1 treatment which went well. However the next treatment was performed by a total incompetent. She infiltrated the graft several times because she couldn't manage to find it. It hurt terribly while she attempted to adjust the needle over and over and over. Finally she got it positioned but she must have known something was wrong because she repeatedly (at least 10 times) came over to poke and prod at my arm with her fingers. I've been on dialysis several years & never have experienced a treatment this bad. My arm swelled up horribly afterwards. (Two days later it is still swollen, it's rock hard, and now technicolor.) She clearly didn't know what she was doing but didn't have the sense or even the human compassion to call for help. I kept asking her what was wrong and she kept saying "Nothing, I'm just checking it." I will never ever go to this hospital again. If you need dialysis here, good luck - you're gonna need it! read more

Wow what a bad experience, nurse ask me about my pain which is a 10waiting more than 2HRs with sciatica pain and lower back pain. They gave me Tylenol and a patch ( I have both of those home and don't work) I have this pain for over 2 months couldn't take it anymore since my doctor that everyone keeps telling me even today is NOT a Doctor and maybe that's why they didn't called me back about my pain. This doctor didn't even check my head that I explained I'm feeling sharp pain ‍ If you are a doctor and have never had this pain don't try to talk to anyone if you can't help them. And if you speak Spanish STOP don't even go to that hospital. When I was waiting I had to translate for them for a Spanish person that didn't speak English and my doctor was talking to me like I didn't speak English ‍. read more

Great experience with recent surgery. Entire staff was welcoming and so competent, from check-in to pre-op, recovery and follow-up.

Went for my anatomy ultrasound and had an excellent experience. I waited maybe 5 minutes before being called in, everyone was so kind and courteous and made me feel so comfortable. They answered every question I had and I felt like I had been taken care of very well. I even got to take a tour of their labor and delivery dept since I will be delivering my baby there. Awesome staff, clean and professional, and easy to navigate. I go back in 6 weeks and I'm sure it'll be the same experience! Thank you to everyone who took care of me, you were wonderful! read more

I'm leaving a new review for my Mom's 6 week stay at the hospital. Yes she got decent care...but she was rushed along too quickly when doctors notes stated she was "CRITICALLY ILL". Twice my Mom was sent to a rehabilitation facility and I don't think she was up for it. The first time she lasted two days...then back cause her oxygen dropped to 80. The second time she lasted a couple hours then back cause she aspirated corn into her lung (which she shouldn't of gotten). At one point she was released from the ICU with no monitoring. I questioned it and was told her vitals were good enough to not have monitoring. That night she took off the Bipap oxygen mask and was without it for several hours. If she was being monitored it would have been seen and put back on. My Mom passed away 3 days after this. I truly think my Mom would still be alive if she wasn't rushed through the system. If someone is critically ill don't be rushing them along to try and get beds for others...it's not right and it could be fatal. read more

If I could rate this hospital at a ZERO trust me I would. My mother and I walked in and my mother was in extreme pain. She was scared and could barely stand. They told us that they are at maximum capacity and I have to leave until she gets a room. Then even in extreme pain they had her walk through a metal detector. Upon going in I was on the phone with her my mother asked how long is the wait and they said 5 hours before her name even gets called. She was so appalled she left and we were forced with a 5 hour wait to leave. They were extremely unprofessional and rude and I do not recommend especially if you are in an emergency. read more

Mass confusion about which operating room would be used, and absolutely no concern for managing pain after an operation (ibuprofen after abdominal surgery). I left this place in severe pain, barely able to stand, and it lasted for weeks. read more

My first and last time going to this hospital. I was left in the waiting room for hours. I had to beg for Tylenol so I could stop my fever/chills. I was treated so poorly. The lady who took my blood was so rough, which I actually feel she was doing intentional. When I finally went to a room I was told I couldn't leave for any reason so I should push the button to call and wait for a nurse. Except when I would push the button they would take at least 30 minutes to come to my room. I thought they were busy. When my nurse didn't come after too long and I needed to use the bathroom I opened the door and saw her just sitting at the nurses station literally just ignoring me. She also hurt me when putting the iv in my arm. When she took it out when I was being discharged my arm was shooting blood and she had trouble getting it to stop. She then made a comment that she used a really big IV.. like why are you using the biggest IV you have? At the end of all of this I was discharged with a 103 fever. I think I was treated this way because they were mad I hadn't been vaccinated yet.. Except I have a medical reason for not being vaccinated yet. read more

My 17yr old daughter was rushed to Bridgeport hospital via ambulance due to hemorrhaging bad from a miscarriage.. when we got to the hospital they had her wait in a haway for 20min then tried to make her stand and walk to a chair to wait some more.. she ended up bleeding all.over the place and blacking out so they dragged her onto a bed and made her wait some more b4 a room in the ER opened up.. not once while waiting did anyone check on her even though she had blood all over the bed herself and floor near us.. when she finally got into a room in the ER and nurse came in and did a ultrasound (she was only 6wks so a regular ultrasound won't do shit) and said she'd be back.. not once did they ask if she's in pain or needed anything.. I had to bug them to get her a blanket bc she was freezing and remember she's still soaked in blood at this time so I had to search the room for hospital gown so I could change her.. never not once did any of the ER staff ask or offer help.. finally OBGYN came down to check on her and let me tell you they were AMAZING and did everything to make sure she was taking care of.. they made her feel comfortable and safe.. she was admitted for 4 days and had to have surgery and a blood transfusion, that's how serious her condition was.. something needs to be done with the ER Staff, they are rude, judgemental, slow, and don't seem to give a sh*t about the patience.. so the maternity staff is absolutely great all the doctors, nurses and staff were so nice and helpful and made sure my daughter was taken care of.. and the ER is horrible, they treat the patience like crap! read more

This hospital was detrimental in my father's health and basically killed him. He entered healthy and just needed help from geriatrics with medication side effects but they instead administered HEAVY DUTY Psych drugs. Dr Scharma in the Geri Psych Unit would not listen to me when I said my father has never been in a psych unit and was in a delirium from other medication. He administered NEW MEDS, MORE MEDS, anti psychotics and the staff put my dad in restraints. My father was unable to talk, feed himself or speak after that. I had to hold a meeting with this incompetent doctor and the staff and demand all meds be stopped immediately. My father had no clinical Diagnosis for these meds. They made him so sick he ended up having heart problems and in a delirium for weeks. Eventually he went into respiratory failure. He was trapped in Bridgeport hospital for two months straight. He lost his bed at his long term care facility (he was only 74) and due to PSYCH notes he could not get rehabilitation anyWhere. But my father did not have psych issues. He had Blood poisoning from his CO2 build up from the respiratory failure his stay in psych did to him and from being bed ridden so long. Bridgeport did no tests for this!! They let him stay in a room without tests being done as if he was fine. Yale new haven ran the tests and saw what Was happening. He suffered immensely from Bridgeport hospital , the staff was incompetent, un-empathetic and Dr Scharma is not fit to care for the elderly or anyone that needs close attention. Didnt matter that I was the healthcare proxy and knew my fathers entire medical history. My father needlessly suffered and went back and forth in and out of hospitals for months after Bridgeport. He died December 2019, unable to ever get back to his baseline , and only with suffering propelled by the terrible two months of mistreatment in Bridgeport hospital. I saw my father the first day he arrived at Bridgeport and I saw him during and I saw him after. He went into a hospital that made him worse than before and ultimately propelled him to death. No response from patient relations. I will be taking legal action. Keep your family out of here. read more

If I could give the ER a zero, I would. As soon as I arrived, 3 nurses were literally yelling at other patients waiting on gurneys. I was there for 15 hours, saw 15 different nurses/doctors, each without any knowledge of why I was there. Bedside manner was terrible. One doctor would tell me I was getting admitted, hours would pass and a different doctor would tell me I was going home, then vice versa. There was zero communication between the staff and zero communication with me. It took hours before getting the medication I needed. I know hospitals are struggling due to COVID and I feel for them, and I feel terrible for even complaining but it was the most uncaring experience I've ever had in the medical field. read more

I am writing my review based on the maternity section of the hospital. Rodrigo was a big part of my delivery and care upon entering the hospital. I felt that he really advocated for me and my care and helped make my experience as pleasant as labor can be. I was terrified of being sent home (after two prior visits of being sent home). Once I was admitted the staff was incredibly caring and attentive. Unfortunately I ended up needing a c-section, and Rodrigo as well as my primary OBGYN worked quickly to make sure my daughter was delivered safely. Recovery from a cesarean is no joke, and man did the staff of Bridgeport hospital work over time to make sure I was okay and assure me everything I was experiencing was normal. The amount of patience they have is just remarkable. They supplied all diapers, formula, had a lactation specialist on call all day, really kept up with monitoring me while I recovered. My only complaint (which really made the first three days of being home with a new born almost unbearable) is that a staff member told us to only give our baby 15ml of food per feeding. When we got to the doctors for her first check up she said she should have been getting 30-60ml, which would explain why she screamed all night and day. With that being said, in the event I ever decide to have another baby I will absolutely deliver with Bridgeport hospital. I can't imagine another hospital treating their patients better. Bridgeport Hospital is supposed to be a place where you can go for any kind of health related issue. I was admitted to Bridgeport hospital after having experienced renal failure. When being attended by ER nurses 2 sets of Diamond earrings were removed from my ears along with my diamond mother's pendant. When I was transferred from ICE TO THE OCU floor I saw the ER nurse hand over my jewelry to the attending nurse on the PCU floor. When I was leaving the hospital I went back up to the PCU floor to retrieve my jewelry only to have the nurse who was handed my jewelry tell me that I only had feather earrings on. I immediately had the nurses on the 8th floor call patient relations who sent up Monica to tend to my claim. On Tuesday July 24 the day after I left the hospital I returned to get my earrings and the woman handing my claim had gone home sick, I called again Wednesday, Thursday and Friday only to hear she was still out sick. On Monday (today) Aug 2 she called me to tell me that she conducted a thorough investigation and that what I had on my ears when I arrived according to her were feathers . I fail to understand and it behooves me to no end how BRIDGEPORT HOSPITAL NURSSS ARE ALLOWED TO STEAL FROM THE DEAD AND DYING WITH NO REPERCUSSIONS OR CONSEQUENCE. Not Anne Diamond Security or Patien relations have the interest of the patient in mind. I checked out of the hospital AMA as I was terrified that along with stealing my jewelry I could be slipped any kk d of medical cocktail to kill me and it could be covered up by a pack of Thieving nurses with no questions asked by the higher ups. It seems that although the patient if the one paying the bill the patient does not matter at ALL. It also strikes me as ODD That Patient relations can call duct an investigation without even being present for the job. The PUERTO RICANS & BLACKS. that are tasked with making sure patients are respected and protected when hanging on to life by a hairstrand are not interested in the patient well being but rather their paychecks. It's pretty sad that a hospital with the CITY name attached to it can be so irresponsible when handling a patient or their concerns. I put in a call to the administrative offices I'm waiting to hear how they remedy the situation and return to me all the Jewelry that was stolen by the nurses on the PCU floor. My recent visit to Bridgeport Hospital on June 6, 2018 went extremely well. Dr. Sara Richer performed the parathyroid procedure and today I am pain free, without any bandage and you must search to look for the small incision. I know I'm forgetting many of the nurses and aides names but I want to single out Susan Smith, Maureen Brenner, Matt In Anesthesiology, those that assisted me in the recovery room and brought beverages and cookies and lastly Eddie Maldonado who whisked me through Discharge to my car door.
