Typical Chinese Mall here in Canada, where most of the Chinese forget that they actually are in Canada--and that every now and again GASP! a non-Chinese/Non-Cantonese speaker might want some service or to buy some food in English.
Mall has 2 Grocery Stores, the Price Chopper on the top floor which fortunately as of Oct. 2018 seems to actually have some shopping carts available again, as for a while there they seemed to only have 3 carts for the whole store which was hella annoying. As apparently NO CHINESE PERSON ACTUALLY WORKS 9-5 HOURS on a weekday, every Thursday or Friday when the grocery store flyer sales are starting it is absolute madness at the mall, and is really bad during cheque week. Expect to see Chinese people fighting and squabbling in Cantonese over discount Eggs and Corn. Corn is the worst, as they ALWAYS! husk it in the store and leave the husks all over the bloody place.
Chinese also treat the mall as a day-care, which is especially bad if they have any special events at the mall, so always a tonne of little turd and turdette kids running around like crazy.
Parking mall and crossing the street to get to the mall is always a life altering experience as the stereotype about Asian drivers is more than true here as they will just turn as soon as the light turns green, people trying to cross the street on the pedestrian walk signal be damned!
There are at least 3 buses that easily service the mall, and GASP! FINALLY! the bloody Shoppers Drugmart finally allows you to top up your Presto cards.
The McPuke in the mall is decent enough, and has it its own seating inside---one of the few places that does, other than Subway which has I think 3 booths. Tim Horton's, Popeye's and the rest of the food locations downtown have to share a few tables---and often elderly Chinese people so old they look like they fart dust will just sit there FOREVER reading their chinese papers, drinking tea and shooting the #$t with other old fossils.
Popeye's in this mall is probably THE WORST Popeye's location in Canada as their portions are tinier than any other Popeye's and they almost always mess up orders. Best to just go to the one at Birchmount & Sheppard.
Their is an upper food court too, if you can call it that, which is just a Western Style Chinese place that serves horrible Chop Suey and General Tso and other garbage---and some place that does Chinese Shawarma (whatever the hell that is) basically some random Chinese guy, doing cultural appropriation and trying to do Shawarma for all the new immigrant black Muslims moving into the hood.
Over time this mall will remind you of everything that is bad about immigration and RUDE Chinese people who will just shove their way forward and have no concept of anything resembling a line, and seem really ANNOYED that they actually have to speak English when you go into one of "their" restaurants, and really would prefer that you didn't. Even in McPuke you will see these old Chinese ladies try to find a Chinese girl so they can order their #5 Combo in Cantonese. Like seriously? You been in Canada for like 40 years and you can't even order a #5 Combo or Big Mac Combo???
The Library is convenient and at least has a decent enough selection of movies in English, and naturally a pretty good selection of Kung Fu, Manga and Anime, and if you live in the area is an okay place to pick up holds, but they tend to just toss the holds onto random carts all over the place---so finding your hold items can be an annoying process.
All in all, it is NOT the worst mall in Scarborough, that honor would probably have to go to Agincourt, but this mall is pretty bad and is a place to just go in, get some stuff at the Library, brave the Price Chopper for bargains, and eat some "food" at McPuke or Subway that probably won't kill you. Other than that.... read more
