We paid more than $20k in 2017. We were told the hours never expire. Our old child feels their service is useless and stopped going after a while. We hence have quite some hours remaining. We started to use it on our younger child as the hours are for siblings. Sometime in 2023, they started bugging us to sign a new contract that put an expiration time that is impossible for us to finish the hours. We told them the contract is unfair and we won't sign as that is equivalent to robbing the money from us. They then refused to let us take scheduled lessons. I called the police on them and they told the police that they were going to refund us. That was more than a month ago. Still today, no refund was ever seen. And they just plainly ignore my inquiry emails. Their Millburn NJ center is the worst. The woman who claims to be the center director frequently threaten us to sign the unfair contract. Check online for various reports of their fraudulent practice and subpar services, such as BBB and trustpilot. Many complaints, quote "It is a money making scam. Very unethical and should be investigated." "Definitely not worth it.". Also, watch out how they log your hours. It's a complete blackbox. In the communications on remaining hours, they changed and took away a large number from what was originally communicated through email and contracts. If you are a victim of their fraud, you should report to the state attorney general.

With all the online tools available to engage students online I was surprised at how poorly Mathnasium missed the mark. After the first few session it really was just more pdf math sheets, just like school is, worst actually, and no real online interaction with committed tutors. Mathhnasium just kept feeding me this line "building a foundation"!! My concerns were never addressed despite bringing it up. My daughter clearly was not being engaged. It was painful to watch it happen. It made my daughter HATE math more and it created a greater power struggle. I think mathnasium is preying on parents desperation to help their children. When I brought my concerns to the attention of management my experience was rejected and I was told to have my 9 year old daughter ask the tutor to be given more time to work on homework, which is absurd. It did not make me feel that mine or my daughters needs were being met. And mathnasium might make the excuse that being online is different than in person. But I can tell you I signed up to another coaching service which was more flexible, professional, kind, helpful and effective. Unlike Mathnasium, this other service talked to my daughter face to face with online video and they really know her, ask her questions, smile at her, talk and do amazing things online to not only boost her confidence but also engage her to learn. Plus every session I get a personal report from the coach on what topic was covered and how my daughter is progressing. I can also send a picture of my daughters homework daily to the coach in prep for the next session. Then they work together learn and build a good foundation for the topic. Mathhnasium did none of this. They just fed her pdf files and checked in on her in a dull and monotone vibe. So sad. I am so disappointed that I spent money trying out mathhnasium just trying to help my child. They made the problem worst, did nothing to address my concerns and when the fee for the month was charged I essentially lost that money because I could not see forcing my child to sit through another unproductive and damaging 3 weeks being subjected to the drudgery that was Mathnasium.
