We began the process of building a custom-designed home in April 2013, and shortly after breaking ground in June we realized WE WERE IN WAY OVER OUR HEAD! So we went on the search for design assistance, and found Leela & Alissa just in time. Honestly, we would have made one hundred thousand million mistakes without them. For example... (1) We would have designed a kitchen with an oven door that would not fully open (2) We would have had tile installed that was not symmetrical (3) We would have selected dark mahogany floors AND HATED THEM I mean the list goes on, but I feel like those examples show the detail that goes into functional interior design. It's not all pillows and light fixtures here people, these ladies have architectural experience to guide on the topics that you would have had no clue about until after the fact. When they stare you glaringly in the face every day and irritate you to no end. It's important to acknowledge that most builders and most subcontractors really don't care about the details and the over functionality of the design. Which is why when you get into massive home design projects it's key to have a guru who is paying attention to these details. I fully believe that Alissa & Leela are capable of tackling any style, however they really excel at successfully achieving a contemporary modern aesthetic. Which is a perfect fit for us because that's also what we love. So the conversations felt natural and felt mostly easy, and the special touches they suggested were right up our alley. More examples... (1) Concrete poured mantle (2) Cabinet doors for the AV console that are slated walnut (3) A beautiful waterfall white quartz island in the kitchen (4) A low shelf in the kitchen for displaying every day plates, glasses etc (5) Gorgeous custom entry wall paper that is a map of my hometown Their approach is unique. Thoughtful. Clean. Practical. And more than anything, very personal. They actively listened and ultimately helped us build a modern marvel! This review is based on the process of getting a bid from Bright. I was looking for some advice about fitting out a work/play space in my home. I wanted to hire someone to meet with me in the space, bounce some ideas, advise me on what was realistic, etc. I was willing and able to pay a high hourly rate for this service. I was also, separately looking for someone to come advise me on color flow throughout the house. Although they did respond to messages and provide another recommended outside designer, I was turned away from getting a consult because we weren't a good fit. They wouldn't send someone to do a consult with me! As an artistic service professional myself, I can read between those lines and I was really put off by the experience. The company has a beautiful portfolio, but apparently do not want to service a smaller residential customer who doesn't have a personal connection or in with them. I can respect "not a fit" but felt it was used as a line with me - boo! read more

We have a house that was built in the 1930s with a lot of character and charm. We wanted a new kitchen that fit with our house. Katie and Ally at Bright Designlab were able to give us a bright, big modern kitchen that fits perfectly with house. Our new kitchen is lovely, and I'm thankful for it every day. Our new favorite place is the beautiful breakfast nook, where we work and eat most meals. On top of being terrific designers, Katie and Ally were a delight to work with. Katie is calm and confident, and held my hand when I needed it. I learned to trust her even when a design decision was outside my comfort zone. Ally was great at following up and making sure everything was moving along as it should. We liked Katy so much that we later asked her to design a remodel of our outside front entrance. Well, I've been using Bright Designlab for years for my Craftsman...little projects, bigger projects and everything in-between. They are experts in not only direct and uncomplicated communication for the design-challenged (me), but they are highly sophisticated and tasteful in their desig and just very easy with which to work. My esthetic is clean, simple, but not overtly modern and they team got me right away. I'm using them for a kitchen remodel (and mind you, I work with them remotely-- I'm in California) and I can't wait to see their impeccable work again. In disclosure, I am the partner of Caryn B who has also reviewed Bright. Her review covers most of our experience but I would add a few things. First of all, I wouldn't normally consider hiring designers to be within my budget, nor did I understand what they actually do. What I learned through this process is that you can't do it without them, or at least you will wish you had not tried! They will probably SAVE you money because they will steer you towards exciting materials that are actually within your budget. They will simplify the process by being the experts on a million little details you would never manage on your own. And they will empower you to make decisions you will be thrilled with by organizing and filtering the options some of those decisions. Second, did we mention they are like surrogate therapists? Alissa and Leela kept us calm when we felt overwhelmed, steered us in the right direction when we were lost, and probably saved our relationship from any seriously stressful arguments. Third, you should know these ladies have impeccable taste. If you don't know that they go to the storefront in the Pearl and peak around. Or go to one of their presentations, which is how we met them. I get the impression that they pour through design blogs and magazines obsessively to keep up on the latest trends, styles, materials, etc. read more

Working with Alissa from Bright design lab on my kitchen four years ago was such a pleasure. She was so great at listening to my ideas, sharing her own and helping to turn them into a reality. She responded to my emails very promptly and paid close attention to all of the details. Everyone I worked with found the plans to be so thorough which I think really helped the project to go smoothly. I regularly refer my friends to them and enjoyed the experience so much that I am currently working with her and her team again on a basement remodel. They also referred me to the builder on the current project and we have been very pleased with their work. These people are complete crooks. If you want to be ripped off, come here! They charged us to have lunch with them, for our initial meeting. The only creativity they provide is delivering the same thing over and over to multiple customers, regardless of the customer needs. We were unable to use any of the drawings they provided, so the relationship had to be terminated. read more
