I went on the day after Labor Day and...wow. It's quite overwhelming, but in a good way. I probably only covered 20% of the entire market in a span of 8 hours. Negotiations saved me some money, so definitely haggle. Plus wear good shoes, because you'll be doing a lot of walking. Fortunately, it was a sunny and warm day. It's a really just nice to look around and see the variety of stuff. I can imagine a rainy day being a drag to go around. So the markets consist of a bunch of separate adjacent sites along Route 20. We went to Brimfield Auction Acres, which is the OG spot. Had to pay $5 to park there but being in the center of it all was worth it. Shelton across the street is the second oldest, so we went there as well. We might've wandered into one or two others at the end, but there are so many more vendor sites. The vendors and the selection of items vary, so some may think it's junk, others think it's treasure. Just do a "fly-by" around the tents and find one that interests you. Don't forget, there are a lot of more hidden things being sold, so it may take a bit of luck to find something. My purchases varied: from a Sinatra vinyl, to a painting of a 18th century frigate, to a cheese knife, to an old small Christmas tree decoration from Denmark, to packs of hockey cards from the 90's. I saw some other pretty interesting things, including a Continental Army cannon from the Revolutionary War, which was a little more than my wallet could handle. If you're hungry, there are a bunch of food trucks and some eating areas. Bathrooms are mostly porta-potties. Parking and admission vary from place-to-place. Almost all the vendors were willing to negotiate prices even though it was the first day. There is SO MUCH to see here. One day is not enough for sure. Hoping to go back again in July or September! One critique was it was a little confusion which sections you had to pay an admissions fee for. At one point a man in a yellow reflection jacket was standing in front of an entrance for a n hour or two demanding $5 for entry (despite no sign) and then it seemed to be free once we left...unsure if we got duped or if signage is just unclear. read more

Just got back from Brimfield North Antiques and Flea Market in Deerfield, NH. I recall the very first Brimfield North and it was a premier event. There were many booths with true and honest antiques. Each year has seen a decline in such booths and this year it was just a flea market. Lots of yard sale caliber junk and very little in the way of real antiques. Guess times change and the event is now just a low end retailer show that is no longer vetted to meet the title of the old show. It certainly is NOT an antique show in the mold of the shows conducted in Brimfield, Massachusetts where true antique dealers from around the world congregate. Went for the first time, had a mixed experience. Lots of nice sellers, some not so nice, like the guy with no prices on his wares (antlers and pottery) who got cranky if you asked him how much something was. Many good food vendors too, but this place is HUGE. You could spend the entire day walking around without seeing it all, which can be fun I guess - or ,not a good thing if you have specific purchases in mind. There was a sameness to many of the seller's spaces - lots of mediocre stuff that looked like leftovers from home yard sales, but also some unusual and interesting things. Some items were way overpriced: we didn't expect sellers to just give their things away, but if we wanted to shop for antiques in downtown Boston we'd go there. Some sellers would no doubt haggle about prices with you if you wanted. Also, and I know that this will never happen, but it would be great if the venue had locations for certain things with a map to guide you there. "Clock sellers are HERE, furniture sellers are HERE, etc. Problem is, most sellers have a mix of things. If you go just for the fun of walking around to see what you can see, that's great, but again, if you go wanting to find specific things, It's really hit or miss. When Brimfield happens, beautiful pastures and meadows get temporarily turned into parking lots. Land owners/lot attendants were friendly. One even refunded our fee when we found a place to park that was closer to the event. All that said, we won't go again. It was frustrating having to walk so much as we looked for certain things without seeing those things much or at all, and most of what we saw, as said, was lame: ashtrays, doilies, lava lamps, Avon bottles, little that was "interesting vintage" or "antique". read more

As first time visitors, overall a great experience and will be coming back. One frustration was locating food - there is no centralized place to get food. Everything is spread out so you can't get a feel for all the options. Parking was easy to find $10-15. Take some cash out since some vendors are cash only. Portapotty's throughout, cumberlands has a bathroom. Traffic is very congested - the market is on two opposite sides of the road, so lots of crossing traffic. I'm in a love hate relationship with coming to Brimfield. I only live the next town over so very convenient to come. Cannot beat five dollar parking on the outskirts. Lots of great vendors who over the years build up a connection / network for items in search of. Cannot stand the overpriced items. There are good deals out there don't get me wrong. Thanks to the interest the Brimfield Flea Market is no longer the place to come and items for your collection. Even saying that is not fair, you never know what is out there. But I'm seeing more of the same stuff over and over. A youth market so to speak. Same complaint every year, this year worse with rain. Town on Brimfield as said before needs to install wide paved sidewalk way that are safe...on main road... the huge revenue this town generates twice a year would pay minimal costs to do ... elderly people trying to walk , wheel chairs, cars traffic , make for unsafe conditions and stumbling on uneven gravel at best side walk ways.... And the rain and mud this year was bad.... How about dropping wood chips around known bad mud areas? A town free shuttle bus up and back every 15 minutes at defined stops might help too? How much can this cost for town with volunteers? Improve the experience and revenues will increase even more... if attending... bring mud boots and umbrellas as saw no one renting ... maybe hand out disposal wearable trash bags raincoats for unprepared people? Been going to Brimfield since 1999, but not anymore. The last 5 years the fair has been going down hill big time and catering to crap dealers selling crap. If I wanted crap, I'd go to someone's yard sale. At one point in time there were actual antiques being sold at Brimfield and at one point in time, there were actual antique dealers going there to find deals. The traffic through Sturbridge and Brimfield used to contain a lot of dealer trucks and trailers. Not much anymore. The traffic seems to be a bunch of SUVs from CT, NY, NJ, DE and from wherever looking to go for the experience of it all because now you can get drunk at Brimfield while eating crap food. There's a beer garden somewhere in Brimfield. There is a large wooden wine bottle over by what used to be the J & J field. How quaint. How pathetic. Antique dealers and real antique collectors have quit the show. The people going to Brimfield now are a just a bunch of captain emos decked out with multi-colored hair, piercings, tatoos, vampire clothes and a ton of flab flying around. I guess when you sell crap, you get crap. Save your money and put it into some sort of investment. read more

I love to shop for antiques. I was set loose in the Brimfield Flea Markets and angels (residing in a farmhouse chic heaven) sang. First tip: bring cash. Seriously. Bring lots of cash. Many vendors take cards but offer cash and your discount can be as much as 20%! Also note, if you have a cell provider that is known to have poor service (T Mobile, I'm looking at you), you will have no service here. Second tip: get there early. We stupidly arrived around 2:30 pm on Saturday. By 4:30 pm roughly half the vendors were already packed up or in the process of doing so. I felt like I was in one of those dreams where I had just enough time to glance at all the awesome unique finds but not have enough time to make a sound decision. Oh wait, that was my reality. I'm pretty sure we missed a lot of stuff, too, because we just didn't have time. Third tip: you'll see cheaper parking on the way to the main field area. I'd just park in the huge lot that's $15 because then you're closer to the main area and can make trips back to your vehicle to drop off your smaller goods. Or, like many people did, bring a wagon. Fourth tip: it's best to come here without a mission. We had specific needs in mind: bed frame, night stands, coffee table and patio furniture. This meant, given our time restriction, that we missed out on the pure joy of browsing all of the beautiful pieces that could decorate our new home or things that we never knew we needed, like a metal Victorian bread box that had a lock and key (so as to firmly shut and keep the mice away). Swoon. But I passed because I had practicalities on the brain (a rare thing for me). The farmhouse + shabby chic aesthetic is ubiquitous (yes, I love this) but you'll also find a good amount of other stuff. I adore Balinese carved wooden furniture and I found some beautiful pieces, in addition to Buddhas, Hindu deities and more. I also have a thing for old church windows. There was an entire stall devoted to these. There's also refurbished antique dressers, breakfronts and tables that would make a purist cry, but I like that faded white-out paint look (shabby chic, I never get tired of it). Don't worry, purists. They've got you covered, too. I didn't see as much drool-worthy MCM stuff and what I did see was hella pricey. Fifth tip: not everything is a bargain. We found a small four piece teak patio furniture (that we couldn't prove was actual teak) and were quoted 750. Yeah, no. It needed to be sanded and refinished. I think some vendors might not want to part with stuff, while others announced that everything was negotiable because "we don't want to take this home tomorrow" (Sunday is the last day). There's just so much. And I walked away without a single thing. The frustrating thing is that at the final hour, I found that jaw dropping bed that I was looking for. Carved, four poster, mahogany. The dealer was going to sell it for 200 less than asking but I had no cash. He was willing to take Chase Pay but... my damn cell phone had no service. We went looking around in vain for one of the mythical ATMs and then even went driving in search of a Chase, but it was 6 miles in traffic away. Oh well. Anyone who shops for antiques knows you have to get away from "the city," find the proverbial "old barn" that is having a garage sale. But do those really even exist? This is a review for the antique show that happens three times per year - once in May, July, and September. It's an outdoor affair spread out over multiple fields with all sorts of vendors - most of them sell second hand antiques, but there are also lawn ornaments and crafters interspersed. There's a food court by the New England Hotel with places to sit and relax if you need a break. Most of the field areas do have a distinct lack of benches. If I had the time, I would start a "Benches in Brimfield!" campaign, but it would probably not go over well with the private owners of the fields. Bring a lot of cash, smaller bills are appreciated and if you're negotiating, it helps to pay with exact change. Dogs are allowed but if they're like mine and get over-excited in the presence of other doggies, they're safer at home. It can be a long day, and there's a lot of walking on grass and rocks that can be hard on paws. Most places charge to park (another reason to bring cash), and if you're looking for something specific it's probably somewhere in the fields, but it will take a lot of time to find it. This is a lot of vendors. That's it. They all are priced way too high. Some(Heart of the Mart-skip this and save the $5 admission) were completely over priced. Quaker Acres was the best. Best mix of vendors and decent prices to start. Dealers Choice was good too and worth the $5 admission. Great mix of food trucks! Try the falafel! The Faddy donuts looked good. Overall, this is great for collectors, but expect to overpay or to pay close to full retail. As a small dealer, I can say that there were not too many bargains. Check their website for exact dates, as dates change each year. Getting their early is a good idea, as there is one road to the market and traffic backs up. Parking: there are lots all over and parking fee ranges from $5-$10. Admission fees: Most fields have free admission, but some fields charge a small admission fee ($5-$10) on the first day they open. Check the website for details. How does it work: Vendors are organized by fields. Generally, most fields open around 8am or 9am and close around 4pm. Check the website for a map of the fields and opening times. Tip: some field open different times on certain days. What do they sell: furniture, lamps, windows, doors, mirrors, wooden apple/wine crates, jewelry, ladders, gardening/lawn items (bird baths, gazebos, lawn animals, etc.), knick knacks, childhood memorabilia...basically, anything you can imagine. Bathrooms: there are porto potties with outdoor sinks. Food: all sorts of food trucks--pizza, sausage, roast beef sandwich, salad, gyro, french fries, BBQ, turkey sandwich. It won't be your healthiest meal, but there are some options. United Brew Mobile Coffee & Espresso Bar has healthier yummy choices: breakfast sandwiches, panini, summer orzo salad, fruit smoothies, and of course delicious coffee to power you through the day. The "flea market" has become more of an antique show and craft fair. Ever since the invention of ebay and the airing of The Antique Roadshow everybody thinks their little piece of junk Pfaltzgraff cup or Cabbage Patch doll is worth a thousand dollars. And then every other booth has some homemade birdhouses, hideous welded sculpture or some other pastel crafty product that someone decided to take up as a hobby when they got early retirement from Mass Mutual. Once in a while you'll get something cheap, but not without the seller telling you that it's worth a lot more and how they saw it on ebay for $200 a few years ago. The port-a-potties there have little hand washing stations outside, which is cool, because you can have clean hands when you go dig through trash. But on the positive side, flea markets seem to attract crazies and attractive young women in their mid 20's. I like both these things, especially when they are combined. read more

Great outdoor market. My dad has had a space at May's Field since 1982 and my mom and I have recently been setting up our own space at May's for the last 3 years. Tons and tons to see. Vintage clothing, antique furniture, jewelry findings and beads, handmade and artisanal goods. The road is lined with different fields and they each open and close on different days so I suggest getting a pamphlet from one of the fields or check the website to see when certain fields start selling. There are lots of different food options along the road. BBQ, grilled cheese, pizza, sandwiches and desserts. Prices can be pretty steep for nourishment out here so if you're looking to save money maybe pack a lunch in a cooler. Dealers are independent so they price how they want and some booths are up there but you can usually haggle a bit and get some money off. It costs A LOT to set up at these shows. A single space at May's costs $300 to set up so when you comment on a dealers pricing try to keep in mind that they are already out quite a bit of money. well, as a self declared flea market whore, I had great expectations of this. Let me tell you, I was not disappointed at all! I was actually in complete amazement when I arrived at the truly awesome flea market. Thousands of dealers selling everything under the moon. I could go on and on but you won't get it until you go. antique-mid-century modern and even 7's and 80's kitsch. seriously everything. The pamphlet boasts over 20 pages of listed dealers under ever category possible. it only happens for 5 days, 3 times a year (may, July, and September) and is worth the drive (or trunk rental) out there. it's a tad on the pricey side, but you will find anything you happen to be looking for, it will be in mint condition and it's worth it in the end. This is my 3rd year in a row going. I love it here. Brings back so many memories of going to flea markets with my dad when my brothers and I were young. But, this is on a much bigger scale. If you've ever watched Flea Market Flip on HGTV, this is the flea they do 75% of thier shooting and shopping at. This year was by far the best time I had. It all comes down to the company you go with I guess. Even though we didn't buy anything, we had a great time looking, people watching, and trying different food from the friendly vendors. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes because this flea goes on for miles... literally. Both sides of the street intertwining through fields...its a hike. Can't wait to go back with her next year. This really is an amazing flea market! I just happened to be watching Flea Market Flip Friday night and wondered about the Brimfield Market and as luck would have it this is one of the weekends it's going on. It only operates 3 weekends a year About 1.5 hours from me and not a bad ride - you can even bypass the Mass Pike and take route 20. Lots of parking. I would say at least a mile before the site we started to see lots. We ended up parking right at the site as it was the same price and had space - only $10 which is a bargain for what you're about to be immersed in. It's dog friendly which is great. We took our dog and met a bunch of other dogs and no one said anything about her wandering around with us. Did I mention there are a lot of stalls? It's a bit overwhelming, especially if you're a first time like I was. We decided to have a budget so we wouldn't go too crazy. Most places appeared to be cash only but some of the bigger areas did take cards. I only purchased one item ($15) but kind of kicked myself because right at the end I saw another item that I really liked but we were sticking to our budget. Alas, maybe another time. I will say that things were much pricier than I anticipated from having seen the market featured on the show. Items that you could probably get at stores like Home Goods (think Halloween inspired) were way marked up. I didn't see much haggling going on and I think that might be more for the show than what actually happens. The show was filming while we were there as we saw a production truck but never ran into anyone filming in front of us. As I said, it's a vast place. We easily spent 2 hours there. There are food trucks (expensive) and a winery location. I think you should plan on at least an hour. I can see people spending the entire day and if you're patient and willing to really look I'm sure you'll find a lot of cool buys. I would go back again for sure. read more

Look, I'm a fan of a flea market, yard sale, etc. just as much as any other guy, but Brimfield is WAY too overwhelming. It's about an hour and a half drive from Providence and we took the back roads which made it a really nice ride, however; once you get into Brimfield there is only 1 road that takes to the flea market area, so traffic WILL be congested going in and also going out. We parked in one of the very first lots that we saw for $5 and hoofed it about 10 minutes to where the flea market began (totally smart idea so you don't end up sitting in unnecessary traffic.) Wear comfortable shoes or sneakers, bring a backpack or large bag and be prepared to deal with a lot of people. We were only at the flea for about 5 hours and we had to go because it was very warm outside and there aren't very many areas with shade. There is a designated food area with various food venders (pizza, burgers/fries, wraps, tacos, etc.) but naturally, things are generally a bit overpriced. You will see many different antique one of a kind pieces but you'll also see a lot of the same junk, over and over and over again. I walked away with a couple of items that I was able to get the price down on, but like any other flea market you have to be willing to haggle. Also, get your phone out and try to locate the item online to check it's real value. Bottom line, if you can stand crowds, don't mind people or lots and lots of standing and walking, then Brimfield is for you! read more

It seems like you are on a perfect search for treasure when you come to the Brimfield Flea Market. There are, what seems like, endless fields of vendors that showcase with items on blankets, on tables, racks, under tents, and in barns. Pace yourself and start early. You don't always have to get the first thing you see. Often you will find a better deal for something. So unless you CAN'T live without it keep going and you will find something cooler/cheaper. I really suggest going early in the morning, but that does mean that you will have to pay extra for some fields for admittance. I really suggest that you bring ... Cold bottles of water with you as it can be hot, esp in July, and getting drinks can add up $$. Bring hand sanitizer because the porta potties can be gross and after touching all different things from ball jars, rugs, clothes, etc you will want your hands clean. Bring cash and your check book. After years of wanting to go, I went! I had no idea how BIG this place is! Yes, the main road is just a mile long, but tents and tables are set up on both sides going back a couple hundred feet. Too much to see in just one day. Prices on everything from plastic trinkets to modern furniture are hiked way up so when you haggle you end up paying a reasonable amount. Vendors are ok if you buy something and leave it there, then pick it up later as you leave the fair. Take a hatchback, truck or SUV. You never know when you'll find that amazing piece at just the right price. I found a steamer trunk for $40. Just what I had been looking for, for hundreds less than anywhere else. There are a few ATMs near the food court, but withdrawal fees are $4. Parking is easy to find and cheap ($5 very close to the fair). Take a wheeled cart if you have one, or at least a backpack. And make sure you're wearing the right footwear. It can get muddy! When I went, I had the energy to see about 25% of the tents, so I'll be back, Brimfield!! read more

I have been going to Brimfield flea market since I was in the womb! My parents were in the antique business for 20+ years and every year, 3 times a year when the show goes on I was there. I used to hustle back when I was about 4 years old with my own table selling junky little odds and ends for $1 each. My dad had one of the best tents by far if you were looking for high end antique furniture. You can find just about anything old at this flea market. It goes on for miles so be prepared to walk. I loved the little dough boy stand set up by the Brimfield Library they were huge and delicious. There are plenty of stands for food so you won't go hungry thats for sure! If your looking to spend the day doing something different and seeing unique items I recommend going here for sure. read more

Took me about 2 1/2 hours to get there from Waltham area, lot of traffic as you get close and your are stuck on a one-lane road to get to the parking area. Not worth the trip. There are a lot of vendors here, some outside the wire and most inside the wire. Inside the wire you pay a $5 entrance fee, not sure why since vendors have to pay rent for their space. During my visit there I overheard more than one disgruntled vendor complain about the price of their rent for the space and that they likely wouldn't return. A majority of what I saw looked like junk that was left out on the side of the road for trash collection. There was also a lot of mass produced merchandise made in China. Maybe 20 - 25% actual antiques. Prices here are high so if you're looking for a good deal or hidden treasure forget it. You can haggle, but expect to pay more than you would shopping on Craigslist. Prices are more in line with Etsy and Ebay. They advertise a closing time of 6PM, but I saw a lot of vendors already packing up by 3PM. There are food vendors but few places to sit and eat unless you go to the main vendor inside the fenced area. read more

Bring your sneakers, be prepared to walk all morning (Think Disneyworld). Get there early to get a good parking spot. They have food trucks scattered around with a good variety of options. I enjoyed the fresh donuts, can't remember the name of the company, but they are located right on the main road. Tons of antique items, my wife and I collect the 80s toys and nostalgia, not too much here, you have to really search for anything toys. I couldn't wait to check this venue out. I watched Flea Market Flip and this place looks like so much fun. Well...unless you like miles and miles of high priced vintage collectibles and overly expensive antiques then this is your place. (I like the Elephants trunk much better). I found so many vendors to have the same stock that it was redundant. I didn't feel like I could find a treasure cause everyone set up their area like an antique store. Parking is a bit of a nightmare but luckily we were in the right place at the right time and got a spot. The bathroom situation is relied on with porta-potties that were soiled and had no toilet tissue. That always makes for a great time! The food area was ok but good luck finding seating. I ordered from the food stand that served grilled chicken wraps and they were delicious. The wrap was made tight so it didn't unravel while eating and they put it in a cup (genius!) so you can walk around with your lunch. Fasten your seat belts....The Brimfield antique and flea market season is about to begin. A week in May is the first of 3 during which Brimfield takes place every year. The other two weeks take place in July and September. If you have any interest in antiques, vintage finds or if you want to take a walk down the memory lane of your childhood because you have been kept awake nights wondering if you could ever find another Mystic Skull game like the one you used to have as a child, run to Brimfield. You will find everything and anything your little hoarding heart desires. You will be inspired to change your decor or perhaps to start a collection of something interesting. I collect a variety of things but I love vintage cocktail shakers. I can always find something new and fabulous to add to my collection although prices have gone up considerably since I started this about 17 years ago. You will meet all sorts of interesting characters in both the sellers and the buyers. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes and clothes and that you bring something, a wagon, a cart, or whatever to tote your finds around in . Your car will be parked somewhere far away so you have to be prepared to walk and haul. Going to Brimfield makes for a super fun day. You can find just about anything you are in search of here. If you collect it, they'll have it. Oh...years ago we found our dining room table and chairs here....A big rustic oak table with so much character. This place is insane, in the best possible way. You can find everything - from antique tiles to tables larger than my whole dining room. Definitely bring water, good walking shoes, and a keen eye. Besides the finds to be had, the food stands are also pretty good and there was a live musician playing. While I am used to saying, I'll come back later if I really want it, be sure to buy something that you like when you see it because 1. there is no way you will find the same booth again 2. there are too many other booths to browse that you won't have the energy to go back 3. it might be gone before you return. All vendors seemed willing to negotiate, some have credit card options, but most do not. So come ready with cash and leave with interesting finds. read more

Lots of fun old stuff. Some higher end than others. My third year coming and never bored. And most of the vendors are extremely helpful and friendly and open to negotiation. To do it right you really need two days. Great to go with good friends. Better yet, your wonderful lover. read more

Lived up to its reputation. We spent almost the whole day walking around and only saw about 60% of it. This place is HUGE. Will probably visit once every few years. It's like walking through an american history museum. It's fun even if you don't buy anything. read more

Probably the largest flee market we've been to. Not many places to sit down and restrooms are at a minimum with no directions for where they are. Vendor prices are high even for a lot of the junk for sale. Some vendors are not even with their merchandise. Could not find anyone in a couple of instances. Also, when we went in the Spring this year, general parking was $20. That's a bit steep. If you are staying overnight, make sure you have restaurant reservations. read more

I went for the first time this past Sunday. This place was great for antiques. I don't normally give a 5 star for antique places but this was just too big for it not to get a 5...you can find anything you want! We drove about 1 1/2 hours to get to pretty much in the middle of no-where Massachusetts (that is the nice way of putting it :). The town of Brimfield must make a killing on this market because there doesn't seem to be anything else there! We found a few great steals and defintely will be back in May. There was free parking further down the street, inside of the market and it seemed like at the very beginning of the market places were charging $5. This is the type of place it needs to be a great day outside, since it is outside and is very dog friendly. The next market will be in May. Have fun! read more
