Let me give you a nice laundry list of my purchase of a tidy litany of needs, all for under a hundred dollars: Relevant literature/books for me, my new favorite clutch purse bag, snow gloves, two phone holders for vehicles, fine clothing for me and my family, household staples like notepads or three ring binder punches, and for sure my list could go on. Let's stop saying that the money you pay for these is too much or too little and instead look to what your purchase does: it funds the Fisher Hospice Home. This isn't your typical 'store,' and would be more fair to call it a non-profit venture. Volunteers maintain the store floor, swap out goods seasonally, review donations, and they all work as volunteers, for gratuity alone. The love they spend on what visitors might like is obvious, from their childrens' toy section, to their miniature library, to the household goods section. The space is maintained, full of light, and is accessible. What might challenge you is that what you find here is going to be more personal to you, instead of some wide class you happen to be a part of. That is what happens when you merchandise in timeless necessities--you would just as likely find a selfie stick here as you might find typewriter paper. What you leave with is actually liberating: there's no tracker of your behavior as a consumer, there's no brand loyalty that you're analyzed for, you're just a local shopper. Perhaps that's why the Fisher Home Hospice Shop feels like any internationally savvy visitor would visit, because what strikes you might be as surprising as any other bargain reseller, like Marshalls or TJ Maxx. Here, it's local, it's for a cause, and it's open to the public. A former friend recommended I visit the Fisher Home Hospice Shop, and I now regret I thought their advice meant I would only visit once! :)

I saw so many things I wanted to get! Unfortunately, some of them were way to big to wrangle home, but nonetheless it was fun looking around. The place had a mix of authentic antiques and new made to look old stuff in a few booths. A number of booths featured vintage clothing, and home decor, with the full rainbow of small collectibles and ephemera. Also, as an out-of-towner, the directions took me to the front of the store, with only street parking, but there was a parking lot behind the building, and other fun shops in the building. This was on a lower level. Definitely a spot worth wandering around if you like old things.

Negotiations saved me some money, so definitely haggle. Plus wear good shoes, because you'll be doing a lot of walking. Fortunately, it was a sunny and warm day. It's a really just nice to look around and see the variety of stuff. I can imagine a rainy day being a drag to go around. So the markets consist of a bunch of separate adjacent sites along Route 20. We went to Brimfield Auction Acres, which is the OG spot. Had to pay $5 to park there but being in the center of it all was worth it. Shelton across the street is the second oldest, so we went there as well. We might've wandered into one or two others at the end, but there are so many more vendor sites. The vendors and the selection of items vary, so some may think it's junk, others think it's treasure. Just do a "fly-by" around the tents and find one that interests you. Don't forget, there are a lot of more hidden things being sold, so it may take a bit of luck to find something. My purchases varied: from a Sinatra vinyl, to a painting of a 18th century frigate, to a cheese knife, to an old small Christmas tree decoration from Denmark, to packs of hockey cards from the 90's. I saw some other pretty interesting things, including a Continental Army cannon from the Revolutionary War, which was a little more than my wallet could handle. If you're hungry, there are a bunch of food trucks and some eating areas. Bathrooms are mostly porta-potties. Parking and admission vary from place-to-place. I think most places don't charge though.

Their shop is two floors (the smaller downstairs has a good cache of vintage toys) and I think it may technically be a whole separate business in the front, but the floor plan and openness suggests that it's one establishment and this review treats it as such. The owners are affable and seem genuinely interested in their customers. They are also incredibly knowledgeable about the very old items they carry. I was interested in hearing the stories and use cases behind several items, and this information was shared with me with little pressure to follow through with a huge purchase. The stories and knowledge ties everything together with a large quantity of cohesion, which gives the shop a very deliberate feeling. Very old things and artisan-made new items coexist together at many price points. We left with a little bag of figurines and a tiny Beatrix Potter book for under $10. Their storefront is on the side of the building, but there's another entrance in the front. Off-street lot parking.
