I found Brighton to be…read morevery unorganized, lacking a chain of information streaming in regards to the care of your loved on. I have had multiple phone calls after my fathers death from employees questioning what kind of care he needs to wanting to come and evaluate him, and today calling him by another name all together. Clearly there has been an error administratively with not only my fathers information but of my personal information as well. While I can understand a mistake can be made, when you are dealing with the end of life and a loved one I find it incomprehensible that this can and has happened. I would not recommend Brighton Health and Hospice. I would however strongly recommend Millcreek Home Health. They stepped in at the end offering the kind of care we needed.

The intake process set the tone for a less than positive experience. Several different employees…read morecalled my sister and each person asked the same set of questions. Every fifteen minute call covered the same material. Only the female chaplain recognized that my sister didn't want to go over the same sorrowful facts again and again. Does Brighton use electronic charting? Could those questions not have been asked one time only? My sister and I felt we couldn't work with the first nurse who was assigned to my elderly father, because she would call my sister and, in a stressed manner, rattle off information about our father's condition. She would speak so rapidly that it was difficult to understand her. Nurses we respected had worked with her before and liked her, so this may have been a one time situation. However, my sister and I found those calls stressful, so we asked for my dad to be assigned a different nurse. This nurse did visit my dad regularly and made good suggestions as to how Dad could be made more comfortable in the nursing home, ordering more services for him such as a daily shower, massage therapy, and music therapy with a harpist, all of which Brighton provided. He also always responded promptly to our requests for consults or information. However, when it was close to the end, my sister and I had to be the ones to suggest that Dad receive morphine. We thought we could rely on his expertise and experience to let us know when this palliative measure was appropriate. As a result, our dad suffered significant discomfort for a couple days in the last week of his life which, in retrospect, seems unnecessary. We thought that one of the main points of hospice was to prevent suffering when possible; we realize it's not always possible, but Dad certainly seemed a lot more peaceful when he did get the morphine. One final concern: the male chaplain promised to follow up with my teenage nephew after my father's death, and never did. To sum up, there were very good things about the services Brighton provided, but there were disappointing things as well.

His health is average for his age but is declining. Solstice Hospice is a locally owned company who is not centered around only making Big Bucks like most of the other institutional companies. I have been in Retail my entire life and I have n e v e r had such incredible service from the staff that takes care of my Dad. Everyone is extremely knowledgeable and kind. We have a team who cares for Dad: We have CNA Care from a remarkable fellow named Vlad who helps Dad shower 2-3 days a week; A wonderful Social Worker, Tammy; Debbie, an RN of 40 years who knows more than most Doctors I know and her demeanor is stellar (& is so funny!); A non-denominational Chaplin who helps with the big unknowns; Get this, A Music Therapist! Dad has played Saxophone, Clarinet and Piano all his life. She plays the guitar and sings with perfect pitch all the old songs Dad & Mom used to dance to. And last but not least. An amazing woman who is a Foot Zone Therapist! She is a professional therapeutic foot zone practitioner who has been doing this for 18 years. You have, have, have to see it to believe it! Or should I say feel it. She helps Dad so much on an uplifting emotional, spiritual and physical level. Dad always asks, "Is this the day that my feet get Zoned?" He loves everyone who helps him as do I. If you are scouting for a genuine caring, sincere, and ethically run Hospice Company please give these wonderful people a call. All you need to do is have the patient's doctor provide a certificate indicating the areas of decline they are experiencing. Your loved ones deserve this kind of attention and care. Laurie Metcalf.

He came in for a UTI and aspiration pneumonia, and within five days was dead. They did not even tell me that he died and transferred him to a mortuary without my knowledge or my consent! I still do not know if exactly what happened every time I ask, I get very vague responses add two days prior to his death. They let him fall out of his bed smack his face on the floor, and he had to go to the emergency room. My likely let him his bed again, and he obtained more catastrophic injuries.! they tried to say that he had a heart attack. However, he had a pacemaker and had just recently had a valve replacement, and his heart was doing great according to his cardiologist. He had also just had an echocardiogram and stress test and lab work at the hospital four days before he died and we were told by the cardiologist that everything looked great! The lead had changed in his care was being admitted to this awful place. We were not asked if we wanted to come here we were told it was the only place that availability for a Sunday afternoon discharge and I guess that should have been our first red flag.! the physical therapy here is a joke and I honestly think they purposely keep people for as long as possible so they can get paid because if anybody ever left they would NEVER EVER COME BACK!! There's nowhere for family members to sit if you come to visit plan on standing or sitting on your loved ones bed they make it very unwelcoming and uninviting for Famly. I imagine because they don't want families sticking around for very long and seeing how awful the place really is.!

They acknowledged a lack of education on the part of the facility that lead to direct harm and refused to offer any assistance, share information, or support justice. I'm appalled and utterly hurt by the way they failed to help me and my mom as she lay dying or to give account of what they witnessed when doing so would spare others heartache and ensure the facility wouldn't be allowed to continue their harm. I was warned about them and ignored those warnings and have paid a grave price. Their services are a joke under the guide of caring. They're in it for the money and won't show up for you. Go with another service because Envision and their staff say they care but when push comes to shove and they have a clear and easy opportunity to do right, they chose not to.
