My experience was limited to a layover in the international terminal, but I was certainly not impressed. Signage for arriving passengers was pretty poor, particularly regarding transfers. The central food hall was especially crowded, the restrooms were terribly dirty, and electronics charging capabilities were nowhere to be found near the departure gates. And do they even have any air conditioning in the terminal? Mark this as an airport I hope I never have to visit again. read more

What a terrible airport for international departures. There are two departure entries to security and only one is opened. There are 400 people in line that they are trying to squeeze through. People are skipping the lines. I have never seen chaos like this all my years of travel. Edit: The single line goes downstairs. All departure goes through a single line. I see over 1500 people in line. Edit 2: it got worse. There are no signs for premium entry, so be warned. Once you're in the line approaching the scans, the chaos ensues. About 5 people had already put their stuff in trays as instructed, then another agent said to pick up our trays to wait in another line. Ok, fine. No sense antagonizing security. Edit 3: Everyone is concussed. No clear signs for passport checks. I stood there trying to figure out where to go, and got scolded at by an agent for not using the machine kiosks. Ok, I proceed there and put my passport in. The wrong way, he scolds me again. I told him it's a bit chaotic and got confused. He argues that it's not chaotic. The machine flashes red, and he tells me I'm not qualified to go through the kiosk after all and to go wait at the end of the agent line. There's just one agent there among the empty seats. She was trying her best, but it took another 20 mins. All in all, it was almost 2 hours to finally get through all that, only to end up at Duty Free, where I had another interestingly bad experience. The Brisbane airport is quite spread out between the international terminal and the domestic terminal. Upon arriving at the international terminal, passengers with an e-passport can use kiosks for passport control. It speeds up the lines before baggage claim. But the signs don't tell you what the kiosks are for. Once you've collected your baggage, you go through biosecurity and customs. If you're randomly selected, you'll have to go through luggage biosecurity screening. Once you're at arrivals, you can check your bags for domestic transfers and take the free shuttle to the domestic terminal. read more

Brisbane Airport is clean, modern, and easy to navigate. The main highlight is the stunning mosaics in the floor--worth stopping to admire. The only downside is you have to take a shuttle between the domestic and international terminals. Pretty good dining and shopping options. read more

This one star review isn't for the airport itself. This one star review is for an absurdly negative interaction I had with one of the border/passport agents. I got the sense that he was sort of in charge and this was right when the airports opened up during Cyclone Alfred. Nothing overly interesting took place. He was just being your typical power-tripping coward, the type of person in a position of authority who will be needlessly hostile and condescending towards you only because they know you can't do anything back. I would compare it to starting a fight with someone who has both hands tied behind their back, just disgraceful cowardice. I would never, and I cannot emphasize this enough, act with hostility towards an airport employee. That is a battle you will never win but I will say this. If another guy ever spoke to me the way that he did in a completely level playing field where neither he nor I had any authority over the other, the very next thing that would happen is that he would immediately regret his decision to speak to me like that. I want to give him the benefit of the doubt and say that he was just having a bad day, although I'm not even remotely convinced that this was a standalone "bad day", because it would be very unfortunate if this is how he regularly interacts with people. read more

My Partner and i flew out on an 0200am Emirates flight to Dubai on 07/06/25 and were (like fellow traveler's) absolutely appalled at the state of the male and female public toilets in the international terminal well before and around midnight. We met other fellow traveler's at Dubai whom commented re this also. This would never have occurred in the old Govt FAC run terminals years ago. If airports are open until the last flight, applicable maintenance staff should be on until at least midnight. Cost cutting in this area reflects so damn poorly. We are to host the Bne Olympics and portray Bne as a modern dynamic city, the gateway privately owned and run, contractor staffed and supported airports better get their act together in this area especially with increased patronage coming. read more

Maybe after 12 hours in this airport over 2 days I'm a little grumpy.... But I'm a little underwhelmed by our experience here. There are actually a lot of great things about this airport. Comfortable seating. Decent (but expensive) coffee and food. Fun viewing window to wave goodbye to visitors who have gone through security. Well signed inclusive services including prayer room and area for service animals. Helpful staff to help direct to where you want to be and generally tend to be pretty friendly. Now let's talk about security screening. If you haven't been through security with a pile of kids, let's just say: it's not that fun. So we were thankful to be directed to the priority line for staff/crew/and apparently families. This is where the magic ended. The line didn't move for several minutes. We realized there was some new staff being trained. Normally I have some grace for this.... But training new staff in the priority line and creating a significant bottle neck really defeats the purpose of the priority line. On top of this, they flagged a bottle of vitamins and a box of Gatorade powder in one of our bags so they wanted to put the whole thing through again and I waited there for it. Fast forward 24 hours and we were back in the same line because our flight had been cancelled. This time I took out the vitamins and Gatorade thinking I was pretty smart along with our ipad and liquids. Here is where my patience hit rock bottom: they went through all our liquids to make sure nothing was over 100ml AND put them all through a second time. THEN they flagged my daughter's bag, pulled out a book (wt??????) And a painted rock (don't ask) and put through again as well. I realize I should be thankful for high level security but this was too much. Next, passport control. Did I mention my patience was bottoming out? There's a fancy automated process with various little gates that open and close. You scan your passport, step through and stand on a little foot print while it takes your picture and verifies your identity. Not only does this double the time it takes to do regular passport control... NOTHING about it is child friendly - especially not the border agent screaming directions at a kid trapped between two gates without a parent. It's amazing our kids held it together. Mama bear was not impressed. read more

I honestly can't say that this is one of Australia's best airports but it certainly does serve its purpose, namely to get people to and from Brisbane. Actually, it is reasonably close to the city, and there are things to do here while waiting for a plane. However, I do note that it does happen to have a train that runs into the city, which certainly is a bonus. In fact, the train runs all the way down to the Gold Coast, which in a way is even better. read more

I have worked in the airline industry for over 45 years and BNE would be right of the bottom of worst run airports in the world. There are third world terminals that are more basic, less technical but BNE claims to be in the new world. Counter access is minimal when checking in, but acceptable, but the conveyor belt breaking down (staff say regularly) and then bag tags not readable because of ink missing in the printer, and only one staff to handle all self-check baggage is a joke. Family of 8 now needs all bags individually checked! Worse is Aviation Security and Border handling - three queues - we are traveling with a 3 & a half and 7month grandchild - go into special handling but constantly stalled with flight crews jumping ahead - only 3 scanners in operation until someone realises that crew of several flights should be processed separately. Staff seem to think it is OK to jump queue with someone in a wheelchair so they can go off to other duties perhaps, but the people already waiting are now waiting longer. Border staff have a problem with the family in front over passports so the staff member takes them away and leaves the station un-manned, and the queue for families growing - seems there is no-one supervising but a few staff hanging around doing lots of watching. Toilets airside are a disgrace - all unisex toilets clogged with waste all over the floor - women's have 4 cubicles, two are out of order (both blocked, waste on floor). Hot water supply for babies bottle area is questionable around hygiene. Time to get a real shake up BNE - yes, I know you are short staffed, but the staff are more focused on talking, not action from my observation. read more

We had the option of flying out of Brisbane or Sydney to get back to the US, and having already flown into Sydney and experienced that, we chose Brisbane. It was a very smooth process, although the wait to check our bags was exhausting because they didn't have the staff to support the travelers, and all of the kiosks to do it yourself were blocked off. At the gate, my name was called and I assumed it was to get an upgrade to first class, or a complimentary haircut or something, but instead I was one of the random few who had to get super duper inspected before boarding the plane. It wasn't invasive or anything, and my kids and I were able to board before everyone else, but yikes. Would travel in or out of this airport again. read more

'Ello chaps! Brisbane Airport (BNE) is really the only commercial airport in South East Queensland, but offers various domestic and international options. This includes flights by Qantas, Virgin Australia, and Air New Zealand. Even saw international carriers like Air Canada and China Air. Both the domestic and international terminals feel modern, up to date, and comfortable. They're also easy to get around with plenty of signage clearly displaying where to go. There seem to be an abundance of small cafes and gift shops. Overall I give Brisbane Airport four stars out of five. read more

We've been to quite a few airports in Australia this trip and I have an opportunity to compare between them. Brisbane is one of the bigger airports (but smaller by US comparison) but has a separate international terminal from its domestic flights. There are quite a few international trips with some going to Singapore, Los Angeles and Dubai with the vast majority of them going to New Zealand. It's probably one of the most efficient and straight forward layouts of the Australian airports on the east coast. Did you forget to buy a souvenir? Drop by one of the many different stores on the ground level to bring back home for yourself or that special someone. There are only a handful of eateries around but you should be able to find something to eat before your flight. The Qantas lounges are on the second floor with an escalator taking you up. Check in at the desk and you'll then be able to get in. They have a beautiful window that overlooks the rest of the airport, tons of great food and free alcohol. All the seats have outlets so if you're in for a long layover, you'll be able to make sure your battery is charged. If you're connecting to an international flight from a domestic one, you'll have to take the free shuttle outside. Yes that means you'll have to go through security all over again. As with any other flight, you cannot bring liquids on the plane. There's free wifi throughout the airport as well. Not a bad airport and I look forward to additional direct flights from the US to Brisbane in the near future! read more

It could be the fact that I had just spent the last 13+ hours on an airplane and couldn't wait to get off but, this was a pretty nice airport. Getting through customs was down to a process that made things simple and fairly quick. In terms of shopping, it's got some fairly high end shops and surprisingly Krispy Kreme (if it's your birthday and you have the app, you can get a free dozen glazed donuts). Good basic airport with easy ground transportation. Whether you decide to take a taxi or the train it takes about 20 minutes to get into the heart of the city. This is super convenient and also there are signs everywhere so you can't get lost. Folks who work here are super nice and my experience here only added to my positive experience in Australia in general. I was able to drink my water and go through security - I was worried I'd need to drink it all and toss the bottle but then the security person just put the bottle in the tray with my stuff - hurrah for hydration! Again I did find it odd that no IDs were checked at any point in time at the airport but perhaps I'm just used to all the rules and regulations where I'm from. read more

4 hour layover here today... So far so good. They have free WiFi for 8 hours. The airport is clean and gas everything you need. Shops have decent prices for the airport but I could do without all the sales people standing by to bother you as you walk through the unavoidable duty free area. The staff hasn't been the greatest, but I can't remember the last time I saw a great employee at an airport so apparently that's the status quo. The airport is large so you may have to catch the train between terminals but I don't mind that. Like I said, so far so good. read more

More often than not I'm at the Domestic Terminal when my wanderlust-filled heart wishes to be at the International. But when you're about to hop on a jet plane and become a tourist (even if only for a fleeting work trip) it all counts as exploring outside your back yard. Thankfully the Brisbane Domestic Terminal is undergoing a pretty hefty facelift and for the first time, it feels like a real airport with some cosmopolitan cred. As far as airports go it's pretty stock standard, depending on who you're flying will determine what cafes and other eateries or shops you have at your disposal while you wait. I traveled to here from US every year around Nov or Dec. The size of airport is just right for both international and domestic, but I used the international more often. This year, I went through the custom services with 2 steps automation, totally self service, if you do it right. Just follow the written instructions hanging around. Optus mobile finally open a shop on site in the international, I always get the $2 Daily Plus plan (I paid $10, good for 5 days, with 500 mb data every day, it is best deal in town, and they are number two mobile provider in Aussie) They can get you going within 15 minutes or less. A few car rental companies are on site, but I only tried Europcar once, and they are very good. I preferred to use offsite car rental companies because they offered better rates. You need to ride their shuttles to pick your car, they are not open 24 hrs. read more

The best thing about Brisbane Airport is that they provide free showers at the International Terminal on level 2 Arrivals level in their restoom. Bring along one of those tiny hotel shampoos or shower gels. Amazingly they have these huge paper towel like dispensers that are the width of your body so you don't need a towel unless the dispenser runs out. At other airports in Japan or before long flights from Korea you need to pay at a spa or shower facility. There are some places to pick up a quick departure meal or snacks. The fun part is spending your small bills or coins on goodies before your flight leaves. read more

I traveled through Brisbane airport a couple times during my recent Australian adventure and was pretty impressed. In addition to being clean, modern, chock full of restaurants and shops, I found their immigration/customs queue to be extremely quick and efficient, and all the staff to be exceptionally friendly and helpful. Expect the usual high airport prices (a regular coffee was over $5AUD, and a simple burger/fries were almost $20) and having to search a bit for electricity plugins, but at least they have free internet wi-fi in a few spots. read more

Brisbane domestic is a perfectly adequate airport. It is reasonably spacious, is fairly modern and clean, and has a decent number of shops and some (not much) diversity in food options. But then again, this is a domestic terminal, so it's not fair to compare with the Schiphol's and Changi's of the world. It's easy to reach by car and public transport and has Free wifi, which is nice. This of course should be standard at all airports but so often isn't. Bumps it up from 3 to 4 for me. The Brisbane airport is reasonably efficient in my experiences. Traveling internationally, I haven't had difficulty with customs, and even their thorough biosecurity procedures weren't bad; when a dog sniffed out something in my bags, they searched gently and concluded it was the smell of old groceries (you can't bring fresh plants). Domestically, traveling is a breeze compared to U.S. airports. There's security, sure, but I haven't met huge lines, and they hardly even bother to check IDs. It isn't a great airport in terms of food and amenities, though I was able to get wi-fi. There are two major drawbacks to be aware of. The first is access to the city itself. The public transit system does have a train here, but it is ridiculously expensive, much more so than the default fare (in my experience, major cities will generally not charge extra for airport transportation). It is enough that taxi/Uber/shuttle/etc. may actually cost less, depending on how many people and where they are going. The other thing is that the smaller airports up and down the coast tend to have cheaper flights (if they have the destination you want, anyway). These things being said, I would think carefully about how to minimize expenses if traveling to Brisbane. read more

I wasn't ever planning on going to Brisbane just to get back to USA but it was definitely a pleasant detour. The airport is very nice and spacious. Buses take you between terminals for free. There is plenty of food options and places to lounge around. I had to sleep here overnight and it was very comfortable. It's so big that even you could hear the echo of other flyers across the facility. If you are sleeping here, go for the couches by the shops or on the other side of the terminal lobby. There is also a lot of space at the terminal fates as well, including large spacious furniture. Checking in and out was fairly quick and the whole experience was nice. Free WiFi is available but it drops your connection every 10 or so minutes. You will need to make arrangements for getting into Brisbane. I used Uber and it was $40 to CBD. Many seats at each gate. International baggage claim gets very busy. Make sure you fill out your Intent card on the plane and have it ready. Also, at the international baggage claim you will need to step up to a machine, insert your passport, answer a few questions and have your pic taken. The machine will give you a ticket for final exiting. Proceed to baggage claim, get bags, and stand in line with that issued ticket to leave the airport. It is not as complicated as it sounds. read more

The buses between international and domestic are easier to locate with precise signs and buses running more often. After years of travelling to and fro I have become quite comfortable roaming around the Brisbane Domestic Airport. It is organised in a fairly straight forward manner, with Qantas on one end, the bits and bobs in the middle (Jetstar, Alliance, Tiger) and Virgin down the other. There are two short term parking areas on each end which is a great place to pick people up (it is only a few dollars for the first 10 mins and definitely worth those bucks just to avoid the mess of the generally drop off and pick up area). The general drop off and pick up area spans the entire length of the airport but is almost always busy. You won't often get stuck there for long but with cabs and cars jutting in and out, it isn't the funnest place to drive. I recommend taking the Airtrain if you can. It allows you to skip all the traffic and is definitely cheaper than getting a cab in from the city. The airport itself is pretty straight forward with a good range of food and shopping in the terminal. Like any airport it can get busy but I have been lucky enough to never have gotten stuck in massive lines for too long. I have probably jinxed myself by saying that and will bet you anything I get insanely stuck the next time I am there but oh well. I quite like the Brissy Domestic Airport, it is simple and easy and generally stress free. read more
