Brisbane Private Hospital admission 13th August 2018 - Anton Young - Brisbane Australia.
You are risking your life, having surgery at Brisbane Private Hospital, they do not care at about their patients. They only care about maximum profit with absolute minimum care for the patient. They are extremely negligent in their patient care.
They have put my life in danger due the the way I was treated in post operative care. They have tried to cover up the incident, as well as tried to isolate and intimidate me to not make a complaint against them. Due to chronic illness I have had surgery many times at Brisbane Private hospital, in fact over 35 times I have been admitted there, most of these times, when it was called The Holy Spirit Hospital. Before it was taken over and renamed Brisbane Private the care there was reasonably good, now under the new ownership as Brisbane Private Hospital the care has dropped progressively and dramatically. I had surgery there on the 13th of August 2018. It was surgery on my throat in the form of a laser microlaryngoscopy. It requires a general anesthesia. I have had this surgery before now actually 60 times over the last 33 years at various hospitals, so I have experienced a lot of different standards of hospital care. Brisbane Private Hospital is by far, the very worst level of care, I have ever experienced. Their standard of patient care is worse than a third world hospital. Do not use this hospital if you care about yourself or your family members. They do not take proper care of their patients, they only care about profit, they treat you in a manner worse than any human or animal should be treated. They will not allow your family member to accompany you to the pre operative care area or see you in the day surgery ward after the post operative care. They do this to protect themselves from prosecution, as you have no witness to back up your claim against them and you have no moral support to help you deal with their intimidation.
The part of my treatment that was most traumatic at Brisbane Private Hospital was the post operative care. When waking up in the recovery room, I began to shake violently and uncontrollably, feeling extremely cold, I could not speak due to the throat surgery and my face was still covered with the oxygen mask, so I was not able to call out for help. I was ignored by the nurses. There were three nurses standing adjacent to me, but they were so busy chatting among themselves, they did not pay any attention to me. After about 5 minutes of this violent shaking of my body one nurse noticed the problem and put a blanket on me and removed my oxygen mask, I was trying to indicate to her how cold I was, but she turned her back to me and moved away from my bedside and went back to chatting with the other nurses. I continued to shake violently throughout my whole body, the blanket had no effect. I was left in this condition for about another 10 to 15 minutes, before I was looked at again. By this time I was going into traumatic shock with highly elevated blood pressure. Please note that I am also a patient with Chronic Kidney Disease at Stage 4 with around 20% kidney function ( Stage 5 is dialysis ) and highly elevated blood pressure is seriously dangerous to my kidney function and can cause complete kidney failure. Brisbane Private Hospital was aware of my kidney function issues. Only after a long period of traumatic stress about 10 to 15 minutes, did the nurse check me again and saw how serious the situation was. She then covered me with a special heat blanket and connected the blanket to a air heat generating machine to warm my body, after a few minutes the shaking stopped. Their lack of care could only be considered as extreme negligence. This should have been done immediately when the first symptoms were noticed, not after about 15 minutes of traumatic stress. The level of care from the nurses in post operative was simply appauling and negligent. A chat with their other nurse friends was far more important to them than looking after the patient. Had I been left longer in this condition with highly elevated blood pressure I could have gone into kidney failure and cardiac arrest. They do not care for your health, wellbeing or safety at Brisbane Private Hospital, you are at their mercy once in their care and they show no mercy. Even a stranger on the street would treat you better, than they do at Brisbane Private hospital. Even a dog at a vet would receive better care, than I did at Brisbane Private Hospital.
Once I was out of recovery and back at the day surgery ward. I was able to speak a little and asked the nurse to get the supervisor, as I wanted to make a formal complaint. I was told the supervisor was attending a cardiac arrest and would not be able to see me and take my complaint. I then tried another nurse and was told I could not see the supervisor but they would try to get the head nurse from the post operatic care to talk to me. Eventually the he read more
