A former woolworths, that has adopted the shortened abreviation used by many of the loyal fans, and now sells a similar variety of selection of goods that you would find during the heyday of woolworths. It's a really nice idea and excellent use of the space - far nicer than seeing an empty shop unit. Think of it like a mini St Nicks market only in Clifton - you can pick fresh fruit and veg, meat, gifts, music, or just come in for a chat with one of the stall holders. Very good for the community, I highly recommend a visit.

That's apparently a remnant of the train friendly Victorian days, when Bristol had its own time zone that was different from Greenwich Medium time which is what the London trains would run. 2) if you look up towards the ceiling in the main hall, the sculptures of the heads all look towards the middle, except for two which are turning their heads to look at each other. From Italian to Hungarian, all sausage styles have been mastered here in what they call their 'mini sausage factory'. As one would expect for such an outstanding business that's been here for twelve years all the meat is fresh, local and where possible, organic. The price is fantastic and I truely hope that the supermarkets don't squash this shining beacon of what is so great about buying local produce. The front of the shop is red lettering and white background and is listed as 'Fruit market' above the exite and 'EAST STREET fresh fruit and veg' above the entrance - please take note, we can't be doing with people ruining thier perfect system!

Its not a middle class farmers market, its a proper old fashioned market, with fresh and delicious smelling and tasting fruit at bargain prices. It also has a gorgeous array of plants for sale out front. I keep being tempted by them but am usually on my bike when I go to the market. In a world where local supermarkets sell overpriced bland fruit and veg grown in far flung corners of the world it is encouraging to see such a fantastic market still surviving despite the large Asda down the road. Its got character, cheap prices and delicious produce. Well worth turning your nose up at the inferior supermarket produce and taking the extra stroll up East Street to get some tasty treats. Craving some fresh strawberries now!!

The stallholders are local bods and farmers themselves, extremely approachable and know all about the beautiful produce they peddle. Best of all are the free samples of cheese, chutneys and bread etc lined up on each stall. You could practically eat your entire lunch for free. The delish selection includes: cordials, juices, mineral waters, jams & spreads, baked goods, fresh fruit, veg and salad, meat, poultry and fish, pastas, pickles, cheese and dairy.
