Pawson's only deal in fruit and veg and their knowledge of the product is second to none. Apart from a few sundry items like the odd jar of local conserve, the shelves are stacked high with the vibrant colours of nature's best. I have never been in when there wasn't a queue, always a sure sign that they keep their customers happy, and keep them coming back. There's limited parking on the street, but most of the customers tend to arrive on foot. The staff are more efficient than they are friendly, but without a moment to draw breath, this is understandable.

This isn't a supermarket experience and people are keen to have a chat - it's a bit like being in the countryside, funnily enough. It runs on a Wednesday, so if you're working in the city centre (it's based by St. Nicholas Market on Corn Street) treat yourself in your coffee/lunch break and pick up some crusty bread and cheddar cheese. The Big Avocado's are the main reason I come here, especially since learning they can be used to replace eggs in cakes and bread! Aside from the usual stacks of White Lightning and Special Brew there are many good dried foods here such as dried lime and bitter. Interestingly you can also get your mits on some beetroot powder - should you necessitate. Quite an intriguing little shop this one.

The price is fantastic and I truely hope that the supermarkets don't squash this shining beacon of what is so great about buying local produce. The front of the shop is red lettering and white background and is listed as 'Fruit market' above the exite and 'EAST STREET fresh fruit and veg' above the entrance - please take note, we can't be doing with people ruining thier perfect system!

Its not a middle class farmers market, its a proper old fashioned market, with fresh and delicious smelling and tasting fruit at bargain prices. It also has a gorgeous array of plants for sale out front. I keep being tempted by them but am usually on my bike when I go to the market. In a world where local supermarkets sell overpriced bland fruit and veg grown in far flung corners of the world it is encouraging to see such a fantastic market still surviving despite the large Asda down the road. Its got character, cheap prices and delicious produce. Well worth turning your nose up at the inferior supermarket produce and taking the extra stroll up East Street to get some tasty treats. Numerous supermarkets and other shops have emerged on the street but everyone still tells me Lloyds is the best choice. With daily offers like five avocados for a quid or two punnets of blueberries for £2.50 there can surely be no reason not to come here. Over a century worth of knowledge and a shop that is always bursting with business - it really does sell itself.

Not to be distracted by the name they mostly sell fruit and vegetables. One of the more traditional places these guys sell what's in stock at the right time of year. This may seem standard but in the age of the supermarket where, for instance, there are no seasons it feels good to be eating naturally. I've always been happy with the fruit here - not too ripe and squishy, never unripe. With many changing deals and a pleasant and chatty handful of staff, this makes a refreshing alternative to the much larger megaliths down the road.
