We were treated well and they took my husband in promptly to be seen for having a large amount of blood in his urine. I'm glad we came here.

I was pleasantly surprised at the amicable staff, the place was clean, and the procedure expectation was 100%. It was with the Radiology Dept, so granted, no hospitalization, but the techs and nurses were really good. Pleasant, professional, funny, clear, and prompt.

I recently spent two nights in this hospital. I was supposed to have an outpatient procedure in the…read morecardiology Cath lab that ended up requiring admission to the hospital. While my time spent in the Cath lab with their team of nurses and doctors and technicians was absolutely without issue, I wish I would have known how awful it was going to be once I was admitted to the hospital. They were managing my pain with a narcotic however after approximately an hour of getting the medication in my IV; the pain we return. Since my pain level was not being managed by the medication, they made the decision that I could not be cared for at home and should be admitted to the hospital. Once I got my room they continued to manage my pain and my nausea. Here is a list of my biggest issues: 1. Pushing the nurse call button; it was unclear based on the technology or the response time whether I was actually heard. Because I was in such pain I would count down the minutes to the next time I was able to get my next dosage of narcotic pain medication. Sometimes the red light would stay on and others it looked like I hadn't pushed it. Many times the intercom button would ring I as if I had called it. It was on the table next to me, I hadn't leaned on it. 2. At one point I threw up a couple times and had to ask for the nurses to bring me something to throw up into. That same plastic bin was then left in my room with the contents in it on my table (where they brought in my meals) for what seemed like at least 12 hours 3.They didn't seem to know whether I was a fall risk or not. I was on heavy pain medication and could barely walk due to delirium, nausea and weakness. 4.They have white-erase boards near the patient's bed that tell you what your name is, why you're in the hospital, who your nurse is, when you're next pain medication is coming, what your pain number is and what your discharge goals are. This was so sad, because they never wrote anything on the board other than the nurse's name. I had no idea the next time or what medication was coming for me to help with the pain. 5.I was vomiting and peeing from the force in my hospital bed and I would call the nurse and have to explain to them what was going on I remember them not really knowing why I was in pain which is alarming since they have my entire chart up in front of them; hypothetically. 6.If I was in distress & the nurse was visiting her patient on the other side of the curtain, they would pretend that I wasn't there. I was moaning in pain asking for things. 7. When I pushed my call button the voice that would come back through the intercom sounded like the most angry, unhappy, uncaring voice basically saying, 'what do you want'. 8. The 2nd night I was able to unplug my IV and wander down the hallway to try to find out who my nurse was. I did this because I knew that shift-change had happened she had not come in and introduce herself to me. I found her name next to mine on the wall in the hallway. She seemed confused because I asked her specifically by name and she said, 'That's me... who are you?' 9. I asked for toothpaste /ear plugs, and disposable underwear since I had not intended to stay overnight. Toothpaste and ear plugs never showed up. 10. I remember having to explain what procedure I had had done and what I was experiencing to the nurses and to some degree to the supervising Dr. In a way that felt like they didn't know or hadn't heard of it before which was scary. 11. The alarms beeping in our room would go off for 30+ minutes. We'd have to call each time to the nurses station. 12. This hospital has a 24/7 visitation policy, people in your room talking at any hour of the night? Wtf.

I had a minor stroke a while back, so I try to keep an eye on it. They wanted to admit me, but I had to be home to feed my mother and my cats, so I chose to go back home. After I fed my mother and my cats, I was eating when the phone rang. I answered it, and it was a Doctor from John Dempsey Medical Center (UConn). He told me that the results came back from the bloodwork tests, which showed many abnormalities. He told me to return immediately to the hospital as I was having an "acute kidney failure" that could, along with the high blood pressure, cause a major heart attack. He said I needed to be admitted as soon as possible. As soon as I finished my supper, I hopped into the car and drove back to the hospital, and signed in again. The blood pressure was up over 200 again, so I waited in the waiting room until they could find a bed. I have very bad discs in my lower back. I have passed out from the pain because of them. After more than an hour passed, my back was acting up. I had no choice but to ask when the bed would be available. I was told it would be over 3 hours. I told the lady in the ER that I could not sit up for that length of time because of my back discs. She told me that there are no beds or gurneys available in the entire hospital that I could use while I waited. She told me that if I didn't like it, I could always go home. That is what I did. If I passed out from the pain from my discs, they would have let me stay on the floor for over 3 hours until they found a bed. That is completely unacceptable and unprofessional for any medical facility. John Dempsey is supposed to be a crown jewel as far as medical facilities here in Connecticut, but I found it to be a lump of coal. Needless to write, I won't be going back again. I advise others to find a better place.

My review goes to 3 stars because I noticed a buprenophine patch was in my list of medications. Nobody would remove it. I called the patient portal help desk. I used the portal to message Dr Oniyuke APRN. She says she can't remove it. I ended up in the ER 5/24/2026 due to a side effect from a pain medication a new provider prescribed for ongoing heaviness where my decompression fusion was. They treated me like a junkie. I had a headache, vertigo, nausea and high BP164/99. They gave me nausea med in an IV. The paperwork in the car on the way home, showed that stupid patch at the top of my medication list. This is what I was trying to avoid. No department would listen to me. I finally wrote a bad review and some lady called. She didn't care how I was doing. She cared about the review. Yale walk in clinic in Manchester figured out I was sick from the waxy coating on the beads inside the pain medicine capsule! They researched the medication. They did NOT have that patch in my EPIC medication list. UCONN has finally removed it. Writing a crappy review will be the first thing I do from now on. It's all they care about. I remember the doctor whose name I won't reveal saying, "we can only give you Tylenol". I said I have pain medication. He replied with, "you're not suppose to be in 2 pain clinics." I'm not. Your hospital refused to update my meds. That made me so angry. They lost stars for refusing to listen to a patient that's had several surgeries there. They only care to protect the hospital. No integrity. Deleting a medication should not have taken 5 months. What if I arrived unconscious?

Brought my 5 year old son here last week not because he was experiencing cold symptoms but because…read morehe had also started wheezing when breathing and also vomiting. He had no fever but the wheezing concerned me because he has never had any issues with breathing or any asthma related issues. All the staff that helped were wonderful and friendly. They gave him some breathing treatments which really helped with the wheezing. They also did chest X-rays and tested for flu and strep. Tests came back negative and X-rays looked fine. Doctor said his lungs were reacting to something, possible allergy or asthma related, so he prescribed an asthma pump and a couple medications for nausea and his chest. Came in at 3am, left around 7:30am. Now almost a week later, my son woke up at 3:30am with a 104 fever that wouldn't go down. Brought him in at 7:30am, was brought in immediately which was surprising to me because usually they make us wait a bit. Doctor originally was going to just test again for flu because my boyfriend recently tested positive for it, and give him a bunch of fluids because his heart rate was out the roof. They also did some blood work. While we were waiting for results, he started screaming, crying, and clutching his stomach. This went on for 30 minutes before they were able to give him Motrin which helped with the pain and fever. At this point I believe his temp was 102, heart rate still above 150. He also started vomiting a lot. Now this concerned the doctor more also because his blood work showed his white blood cell count was 24 and normally should be 8-10. She said that was showing that his body is trying to fight something off so something was wrong. Because he was clutching the right side of his stomach, they thought it was possibly his appendix so he went off for an ultrasound. They couldn't see his appendix because his bladder was full and he did not want to pee so the result was that the doctor thought he might've had appendicitis and we were transferred to Hartford hospital because it's a dedicated children's hospital and if it was appendicitis, he would have to have surgery to remove his appendix. Waterbury Hospital does not have a pediatric department. We were transferred about noon and got to Hartford Hospital about 12:30. Once there we were seen immediately by a bunch of staff. He got an ultrasound done and appendix looked normal. They did more X-rays on him and turns out he had pneumonia (they could see it in the X-rays and doctor says it explains his fever, and abdominal pain). They diagnosed him in about an hour and a half, and we were out by 3. So....he had pneumonia since the first ER trip we took but instead he was diagnosed with asthma and this second trip was diagnosed with possible appendicitis scaring me to death! Why couldn't they see the pneumonia when they did the X-rays the first time from the very beginning?! Extremely frustrating!! Still, the staff that helped me during this time were all great, friendly, and treated my son very well. I took 1 star off because of the wait time that always seems to be a problem and another star because of the improper diagnoses, not once but twice. I should've known though because when I came here for myself awhile back, they tested me for strep and although it came back negative, I was still prescribed strep medication for whatever reason. Unbelievable! Anyways, if you're coming here for your children, know they do not have a pediatric department so either go to saint Mary's or I highly recommend Hartford's children emergency department, worth the longer drive TRUST ME!!!!

I have had chronic pain since 2006 between my neck, back, knee, foot, and recently tendinitis in my hand for almost 2 years, I have done regular PT and even tried getting a Cortisone shot to release my pain. However, it lasted 2 months and the pain was back even worst then before. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia several months ago and recently was advised to try Aquatic therapy since the pool is 93 degrees. My first visit was beyond compassionate for my pain. I was given several laminated pool exercises after my treatment was completed. Within 3 months of going to the pool 3 times per week-1 hour each time. Not only did my pain in my hand went from a level 9 to 2. I was then able to strengthen my other joints since the water has less poundings on my joints. It was like a healing miracle happened. My referral was sent several weeks ago, and after being told it was waiting for a doctor's review, I did not receive a decision for another three weeks. When I was finally contacted, I was informed that the referral had been denied because the testing was considered not medically necessary. While I understand that not every referral will be accepted, my biggest concern was communication. It was extremely difficult to get in contact with anyone by phone, and I spent a significant amount of time trying to reach the office for updates. The long wait times and lack of communication added unnecessary stress during an already difficult process. If you are considering this practice, be aware that you may experience delays in receiving updates and may have difficulty reaching staff by phone.
