Absolutely worst care. My 37 yr old son died as they played games. No CPR enroute in the ambulance, no CPR going into the ER room, then excuses they didn't have the right size needle to administer EPI in a timely manner. His heart stopped in the ambulance, untrained, unprofessional attendants and it is clearly in the records. They said it was Covid which was not true. He was clear, no COVID test taken. He did not regain consciousness because they vented him and had all paralytics and pain meds. Needless to say as they figured which hospital would get the govt incentive they killed him. Never saw a cardiologist after transfer to New Britain. I could not transfer him. They gave false info to New Britain hospital. I was warned by LifeStar that things were not good and different. Zero stars. They almost killed my 21 year old sister. The doctor had a standard procedure of gallbladder removal. 8-12 hours later they stated she was internally bleeding. The doctor had to drain her and give a blood transfusion after the simple procedure. They stated she would die. Thank God up above that she didn't, but they told her she would. Her guardian was going to sue do to malpractice but the cost of rates superseded the payment amount only because she lived. If she died Midstate would be done. Would never reccomend. read more

I have been a patient at Midstate Hospital and as a nurse I know how things should be. Midstate gets it right - from admitting, ER, nursing care, dietary, environmental services, radiology and all of the staff. They like their jobs and it shows. read more

I have cancer and the staff in the oncology department are amazing. Everyone is compassionate, eager to listen to patient needs, and they keep whatever personal problems they have that day to themselves. I couldn't be as empathetic as this staff. Dr. Fumo is brilliant. I have to go to here three times every two weeks. My only gripe with this hospital is that they let employees park in the visitor lot because the employee lot is a long walk. By 10am the visitor lot is usually full and parking is impossible because there are no alternatives. I end up driving on the grass and parking there. I don't understand why they don't enforce this undesirable situation. read more

I just had a total knee replacement this past week. My care team was amazing I could not have asked for and received any better care from the moment I checked in till the day I left. And the food was amazing especially for hospital food. I have had major surgeries in several other hospitals and have never had the treatment I had here. Highly recommend their ortho unit read more

Dr. Wang Ruibo is the worst MD in Midsate Hospital. She is not professional. She did not listen to my concern and dischange me without helping. Im still in pain. Cant move very well but she could care less. her college speak very poor of her. None of them like her we are talking about nurses, aids, transportation and even the cleaning people. She does not help patients. She is just there for a pay check. The Nurses and the rest of the staff was wonderful, very helpful. read more

My husband recently had a very successful surgery at the Orthopedic center. He had to stay at the orthopedic section of Midstate for two nights. On the third day, he had the misfortune of being under the care (and I use that term "care" loosley) of a nursing assistant by the name of Ney. He asked the nurse for help which required Ney to come into his room to be of assistance. For over an hour she did not show up. When she finally did "grace" my husband with her presence after he had already accomplished what he needed on his own which he should not have done so close to after surgery, she had a horrific, snarky attitude. The whole situation escalated after she opened her mouth. Bottom line, Ney is not fit for for the job of caring for patients. This job requires, compassion, kindness, a warm heart, a willingness to help patients in any way possible to make their stay more comfortable. All the college training in the world cannot train a cold fish to be compassionate. Not gonna happen. I suggest you find a job for Ney where she does not have to interact with patients at all because clearly she is not fit to take care of patients. She is the rotten apple in your barrel of a beautiful, caring, and amazing team of caregivers. Ney is unfit. read more

I had to have a procedure a few months ago leading to a surgery today. I have never been to Mid State and feel that my care both times was exceptional! During my first procedure the OR pre op nurse was amazing! She was able to keep me calm and was just sooo sweet. My procedure went well and all of my Drs. Were amazing! After wards the recovery nurse took great care of me and engaged in meaningful conversation with me to help move the process along and help me get ready to go home. Flash forward to a few months later and I now needed surgery. Check in was easy and everyone was so nice even a 5:45am. The pre-op nurse was very nice and helpful when I was showing signs of anxiety. She reminded me that I was going to be okay and listened to me express my emotions. The anesthesiologist walked me through the process of putting me to sleep including what meditation she would be using and why. My Dr. was just as informative and willing to answer questions and explain the process. All of the nurses here were so supportive, knowledgeable and helpful. The food was great and the room was spotless. Mid-State is a great hospital. read more

My husband had a total knee replacement earlier in the day as an outpatient. Several hours later he couldn't stay conscious. At 9 pm, am ambulance took him to Midstate Emergency Room. My children and I met them at the hospital. I have never seen an emergency room so packed with people .... ever! They took a couple of tests and told us a doctor would see him. Due to his surgery, he was supposed to have his knee iced every hour and take certain meds and have his leg elevated. But there was no way that was happening. We were told there was ONE doctor on staff for ALL of these people. After a few hours, I went up to the desk and told them WE would ice him ourselves - Please give us ice. Which they did, and we iced him for hours. My son drove all the way home to get his meds, so that we could administer them to my husband. So WE nursed him the best we could for hours, and he was finally seen around 4:30 am. He got back home at 6:30 am. A 9 hour visit... inexcusable! I know -- unbelievable. Went to the ER around 3:30am because I had right abdominal pain that woke me up I was scared took 2 hours to get a bed because they where short staffed when I finally got a bed it wasn't made for me to sit on that had dirty shits on it so I sad in the visitors chair in my room.... Then the doctor came in to check my side she said I just pulled a muscle (mind u I've been having this paid for a straight month) and just gave me pills and he said I don't want to give you a CT scan.... Then I tried getting up and he saw how bad I was hurting from getting up so said oh wow! But still got discharged even though I was in pain (the med don't help btw) read more

I'm writing this for others who can decide to go to another hospital so they do so. I went to midstate ER at 2 in the morning because I couldn't breathe well, my arm was numb/tingling all day, and I felt like I was going to puke. I had never felt this way before and I probably haven't been to a doctor in 10 years. I usually just deal with anything at home but the way I felt I got scared so decided to go to the ER. The doctor who treated me at the ER was a real jerk!!!! He showed no care whatsoever for how I was feeling. He continued to tell me why would I come in for my symptoms (making me feel dumb) and said I'm healthy and young (I'm 35) why would I think I'm having a heart attack. For one I never said I was having a heart attack, all I did was give my symptoms and said I don't feel right. For two I know 3 people who had heart attacks at 30! My dad had a heart attack, his dad, etc. the doctor continued to talk to me condescendingly and continued to say I shouldn't be there. But thennnn he ordered all these tests! Blood test, chest X-ray, etc. after 4 hours I left being told I'm fine and they have no idea why I felt that way and a 3k medical bill my insurance wouldn't cover. This place doesn't care about the patient at all. Very clear by the rude ER doctor and unnecessary tests that put people in debt. read more

This hospital is so terrible I've been waiting for 3 hours and still not being seen for my asthma meanwhile someone that came in 2 hours after I did, was just seen if I wanted to die I would have sealed the deal on that one now I'm headed to new york where they actually treat their patients I don't care about the expenses I'm not concerned about that, and one of the last times I was at this hospital they wasted my inhaler puffs and tried to tell me I didn't know how to use my inhaler but if I've been doing this for 20 years and still going I'm clearly doing something right I don't recommend this hospital to anyone if you are having an emergency and you have the ability to I extremely recommend Sharon hospital or Danbury's hospital. If I was able to give this hospital a rating lower than one star I would. My 80 year old mother was brought in by ambulance after falling in a parking lot, I had to ask twice after waiting 40 minutes in the lobby for them to finally let me go back to see her. Where I discovered no one had triaged her and her hand was very obviously broken in multiple fingers with the bone out on her middle finger. They must have immediately ordered an X-ray and the X-ray tech showed to the room and refused to X-ray as the hand was gushing blood. She was like "why haven't they cleaned this at all?" at this point an hour into the visit no pain meds had been ordered or given either. The registry person came and was also in shock that a nurse not doctor had come yet. Finally a PA came and tried to clean this while my mom screamed in pain as she manipulated the exceptionally broken hand. They ordered a small dose of morphine, a nurse came and literally went right through the vein as I watched her back out the iv port she put in to try to get it to place right and then finally an X-ray was taken. Ortho was called and never showed the doctor did not answer his pages, and then the nurse was about to give her an antibiotic which she is allergic too even though we had told the registry person. Dropping the ball every which way in this place. The nurse had to come back because the iv she placed then started to bleed all over since she had gone through the vein. And now they are seriously considering sending her home with every finger bone broken and swollen and the bone out because their ortho guy won't come in for surgery today. Not speaking much about the entire hospital,but a part of it in general. I had emergency gallbladder removal on 12-7-19 and the staff from the emergency Care unit all the way to after care was a blessing . They were friendly, efficient and caring to me and never left me alone very long. The post-opp wing Connecticut Orthopaedic Institute inside Midstate was the best care I could have gotten. The staff Erika,Teeka & Anthony to name a few spends 12-16 hour shifts here and are amongst the nicest and caring people I have ever met. They had a full house on that wing that weekend and fulfilled every need swiftly. I didn't wait past 4 seconds before I hit my button & someone entered my room. Bravo to the team in this unit ,you made my recovery easier and less scary just having you all by my side . read more

I'm only leaving a second star because the facility was clean and quiet and the nurses were very friendly. However, I came in with a fever that I had for 10 days, and some stomach issues. I had previously tested negative for Covid-19. The doctor insisted that I have Covid, and that was his diagnosis. I continuously asked if I could have a retest to confirm this, and he flat out refused. I found out from a clinic that I have Salmonella, NOT Covid. I'm so thankful that I didn't take the doctors diagnosis seriously. read more

I am writing upon soley the experience that so myself encountered with the staff here and not the previous days that the patient I am visiting had. I have visited many people in many different hospitals. However, today was very impressive. The patient I am visiting had to eat food. However, she is sick and weak. So, the nurses came in and out her flat down on the bed. Following this act, they took either side of the blanket underneath her and pulled her up more on the bed. Two days later we ended up in an ER of another hospital, after a few test they determined it was internal bleeding and explained because they did not perform the surgery we would need to admit her back at Midd State were The staff could not be bothered with any questions and when they do speak it's in a condescending form. read more

Entire staff was just awesome, nurses, aides, doctors, etc.. Until the day of discharge. I had a discharge nurse who was shady. She was in my room when they came to take me to x-ray and I had my purse in a bag on the table. She said she would "make my bed" while I was gone. Upon return the bed was not made, and my purse was moved. While going through my purse things were out of order which raised suspicion. When she entered the room seeing me going through my purse she looked very worried and suddenly grabbed the water container and said 'Oh I'll get you fresh water with ice'. And then, before leaving she asked if I had the keys to my house in my purse. I'm telling you, something was not and is not right with this nurse. So patients beware and if having to leave your room for anything, take your personal belongings with you. It's too bad too because before this incident I would have given a 5 star rating. read more

Today was the worst experience I have ever had here. I went in for an asthma attack. I could not breath. I was gasping for air, my hands were blue and I was unable to talk. They took my vitals and had me sit in the waiting room. 30 mins passed. I was finally called in. It was just for tests I guess. They ripped my shirt up, stick a bunch of things to me and crammed a needle in my arm. I knew I was getting an ekg, but have no clue what the blood work was for. They also left the door open while I lay there with my breasts out. After that they sent me back out to the waiting room. I sat and sat. In that time I saw many people come out, but not many being called in. My mom threw a fit as it has now been over an hour and I still cannot breath. They retook my vitals and sent me back out to wait. A man came in with a severed toe...they made him sit in the waiting room. A woman came in with what sounded like possible appendicitis...made her wait. Finally, I'm called in...nope...just for x-rays. I told the lady I just wanted a nebulizer and I'd be ony way. She says she has to do the x-rays...ok. Do them and I'm sent back out to the waiting room. All of this walking and standing up from sitting is making everything worse. I have almost passed out twice by this time. I then see people coming in on ambulances being put in the waiting room. An EMT apologized to the woman he brought in because he felt so bad that she had to wait. This situation is so wrong! I asked for water...I'm told no...not until I have been seen. Been here over two hours at this point. Another 30 mins goes by. "Finally! A room!"....nope...wrong again. They sat me on a Gurnee in the hallway and the rude nurse gave my mom a swivel chair to sit on. My mom did ask why this was taking so long since I literally can not breath. The nurse snaps "were packed!" I'd like it to be known that there were many many empty rooms and the staff just sat around cracking jokes and talking.Less than a minute later another nurse comes by and starts ripping in to my mom about how she can't have a swivel chair and it's dangerous and why would she take a swivel chair. We both explain it was given to her. She still gave my mom crap. This was the last straw! I demanded my discharge papers and the nurse that gave my mom crap over a chair gave me the worst attitude. I left, went to the walk-in by my house and was in, treated and discharged in less than an hour. I will never go back to midstate. I should have known better. I went there last summer when I sliced my eye open and the nurse literally told me to stop being a baby. Anyone who has ever cut their eye knows how painful that is. I wouldn't recommend this place even if you're already dead. Your corpse will be totally decomposed before they get you a room and pronounce you dead! read more

Each of the team members were professional, caring, and hygiene-conscious, including Dr. Remnick, Nurses Suba and Megan, Carolanne, med-tech Nikki, and the radiologist. I was diagnosed with covid and was having breathing issues. They take me in pretty quickly, even though other people including little children were waiting for hours upon hours and complaining loudly! I get put in a room and am struggling to breath, they take my vitals and that's it. I wait in a bed for 8 hours. I call on the room service button and tell them I have a super bad headache and I need water to drink. I wait for two more hours, until i feel like my head will explode and my throat is so raw and scratchy. The Dr finally shows her face and by this time I had it, I want to go home. I complain about being dehydrated and can't even get a drink of water, the nurse says, "all you had to do was ask." That was it, I was livid! Now all of a sudden they want to give me breathing help and won't let me go home because my oxygen is so poor, but it didn't matter for the ten hours I lay there dying. Now they want to give me chest exrays and I tell them no, I'm not waiting another 8 hours to do xrays. I want to go home. No you can't unless you go against drs orders. They give me the breathing machine and some water and a pill. The day shift comes on and they let me go home. Tried to say how busy it must have been on night shift......I could see out the doorway the whole ten hours, sure didn't seem all that busy to me. I had the worst experience at this hospital. I had a severe infection that was crippling and I had to go to the emergency room. I saw a doctor outside and asked her what door it was and she walked right passed me and got in her Tesla and left. It was a blonde woman if anyone with actual authority is reading this and wants to do something. Stay away from the Emergency Room. The floors were dirty and had blood stains. There was also a trail of blood on the sidewalk right through the ER main entrance (second time I have seen this). I went for a kidney stone and as my pain increased they tried to send me home without telling me the result of the CT scan. I was told to ask for nausea medication if I needed it. When I needed it I had to ask three times before I got it. We could hear the nurses snarkly commenting " he said he asked 3 times" and then they blamed another nurse when they found my first request recorded in my chart. Medical staff spend way too much time typing into computers instead of practicing patient care. When there is blood and dirt on the floor you have to wonder how sanitary the beds and rooms are. Either the staff are understaffed/overworked or they cannot attract quality. Patient care and healing are a lost art in this Emergency Room. To be fair I have had outstanding care in the Orthopedic Center as an inpatient. read more

I was brought by ambulance from my job as I felt my heart stopped beating. I felt fine after getting there and a nurse came in and took my vital signs. After over an hour, I asked for a blanket. The nurse turned around, ignored me and walked out. I finally was able to get a blanket from a staff member who came in to take my insurance information. Then I told the nurse that i had to use the bathroom. She said that because I came in dizzy, I needed a bed pan. I said I now felt ok, but would appreciate it if she could walk me to the bathroom which was just a few steps from where i was laying. She turned to me and said, "You are on your own, I am going to get a cup of coffee, AND there is a cup in there for a urine specimen. I went in, did the urine specimen and then went back to my bed the whole time while she was out of sight. She then came back and berated me for not carrying the specimen back to my room, I will never go back to Mid State Medical Center, EVER! The nurse was extremely nice when my husband was there, but after he left, she became rude and disrespectful. read more

I have mixed feelings toward this hospital. I've used them for years. But recently their ed seems to be more and more anti-behavioral health patient friendly than it used to be. Simply meaning If you have mental health issues they will turn a blind eye towards your physical concerns because they won't believe you! I had such a pleasant experience here this past weekend. I called ahead of time because I had no clue how to bring myself to an emergency room, and they were so nice about it. Then when I showed up they were so kind and talked me through everything. I ended up having Covid and not once did they make me feel bad like other offices have or upset. Worst service ever! The young, short brunette girl at the Emergency Entrance has some Napoleon complex. The gentleman you could speak with but she jumps in conversations, starts asserting some odd dominance, barking orders and yelling over everyone. I could not believe how she treats people. She's overly aggressive, rude, disrespectful, causing problems and escalating situations for no reason at all. Wrong field little girl. The Security Guard says she does it all the time. I am not the kind of person to go out of the way to write a bad review. I have had two bad very bad experiences with Midstate. First was 3 years ago when I was missed diagnosed with appendicitis and was left in the hallway on a cot for 12 hours to die. Second was last night when I brought my son to Midstate ER for severe stomach pain and shortness of breath. This hospital lacks compassion. We were so scared. He was screaming for help and not one person came over to reassure us. One nurse turned her head and walked by when my son asked for help. I didnt know if I should call an ambulance to have him taken to another hospital. This hospital would 100% let die while waiting for help. Both experiences I felt no empathy from any of the staff. This is our wonderful community hospital. We live less then two miles from Midstate. I would NEVER step foot in that ER again. read more
