I am a twenty year old singer from Holden, Massachusetts. For the past seven years I have been trained within my schools to sing classically, which tied me down to singing opera, some folk songs, and classical songs that had no true meaning to me. During high school, my choir performed with country legend, Kenny Rogers. While sharing the stage with him, I watched him sing and interact with the audience. I knew that I wanted to be just like him one day. For my first year of college, I attended Franklin Pierce University, where I declared a major in voice performance. While at Franklin Pierce, I was chosen to be in the University Singers, which was the top choir at the college. A few months into the year, I began noticing that the choir wasn't doing as much performing as I hoped for. I had to make a big decision on whether to stay at Franklin Pierce and stick it out with less performance, or change my life with a completely different career. During the summer of 2010, I made the decision to not go back to Franklin Pierce. I didn't want to give up my dream of singing, so I began searching for a voice teacher that would help me further my career with music that I wanted to sing. I came across Bristol Studios MetroWest and their instructor Patrice Peris in college and luckily saw that she taught with Bristol Studios in Boston, so I knew that taking lessons with her would benefit me. I immediately picked up the phone to call her and after my first lesson with her, I knew that I made the right decision. After a couple months into taking lessons, I ended up changing my entire voice. With the help of Patrice, I have been able to do performances that I never thought I would be doing, like competing in the "New England Country Star Search" and placing 3rd in Worcester's "Who's Got Talent!". I have also become more comfortable interacting with crowds and I even began writing my own songs. I am overjoyed with the progress I have made throughout the last few months, and I hope to achieve more of the goals that I have set for myself and move forward as a pop/country artist. When I stepped into Bristol Studios 6 years ago I was a girl with a dream and an okay voice. I had just completed college and was at a loss of how to pursue my life long dream of performing. I watched numerous people around me gigging out but was uncertain of how to even get things going. With a quick search online I found Bristol Studios, it seemed to be exactly what I was looking for, so I booked my free voice lesson. I can recall walking into the studio in awe of what a cool place it was. I meet with Brent, senior vocal coach, and was hooked. Not long after starting lessons with Brent, I attend an Artist Development Seminar hosted by the owner/director Ric Poulin. I thought the voice program was AMAZING, but sitting there in the room I was captivated and blown away by this beautifully organized Artist Development chart showing the exact path to success. I started meeting with Ric and taking a look at where I was in relation to where I needed to go. Lets just say I needed a lot of work, but Ric was always encouraging and everyone at the studio was motivating and positive. Brent continued to help me create a distinct sound that was all my own, which is priceless. For years I had taken lessons but was not hitting the notes I now am able to. Bristol has the type of atmosphere that always allows you to grow as an artist, without any petty stuff. One of my fondest memories is my first style shoot - I thought it went off really well. I mean come on now, a brown blazer and jeans is cool right? I've come so far developing my own style since then! Looking back it was the first step of many that would help me morph into the artist I am today. Now, six years later, I have accomplished so many of my personal goals and have really found who I am. I have been going to Bristol Studios for over 4 years and there I took voice lessons, artist development classes, and the summer program. I love all of the programs there, especially the voice lessons. My voice instructor, Lauren O'Keefe, has an absolutely amazing vocal ability and a great personality, which makes her a great teacher. We really clicked! When I first started singing lessons at Bristol, my voice was very basic and I didn't know much about singing except that I loved to do it. After a lot of practice and learning, I am way ahead of where I use to be. Before I found Bristol, I did not know how to entertain an audience. After enrolling in the artist development program with and taking dance classes, I find moving around on stage comes naturally and speaking to the audience isn't a scary thing anymore. Since I started the programs here, I had the opportunity to perform at venues such as the Hard Rock Café in Boston, the National Anthem at a Boston College football game, and at a Worcester Sharks game. Most recently, I have won the titles "Most Promising Vocalist" and " The Rising Star Award" in a National competition in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee this past March. I have learned so much being in the voice program at Bristol! I came from a musical theater and opera background and was trying to sing pop. I knew I was missing something because it hurt to sing that way!!! I had to find a vocal coach to help me become a pop singer! I looked around and didn't have much luck. One day, my dad found Bristol Studios in the Yellow Pages and shortly after that I began studying voice with Bristol Studios owner and producer Ric Poulin. I learned so much from him and my voice changed for the better in only a few lessons! Because of the pop-gospel technique taught at Bristol, I was now able to sing my favorite pop songs with the right technique and was finally pain free! Performing in the group Jada, I have had to keep my vocal stamina up. The voice method has really helped me become the singer I've always wanted to be! I took the engineering courses at Bristol, and had a positive experience. You shouldn't go in with the expectation that you'll leave as a complete engineer -- you really need to spend time working at a studio to develop expertise -- but the classes gave me a good start in that direction, and they gave me the knowledge I needed to get a job as an intern at a studio. Frankly, I've found that interns who earned degrees in audio engineering don't seem to have gotten much more out of their four-year education than I did out of five weeks of classes. The classes at Bristol do a pretty good job of covering the basics. The instructors were a little hit-or-miss, but the bulk of your time is spent learning by doing. I never had more than five people in my class, which was a big plus. And I'm glad to have learned at a studio that spends most of its time doing sessions with clients; my sense is that music schools tend to have less interest in practicality. If you're serious about learning to make good recordings, teaching yourself really isn't much of an option. Considering the relative costs of going to AI or Berklee for a few years, both in time and money, I'm definitely glad that I took the courses at Bristol. read more

The staff and teachers are both extremely knowledgeable in both the business end of the music industry and providing specific, measurable ways to improve as a performer. In addition, every single staff member I have met has been extremely friendly and supportive in my development as a singer while at the same time remaining practical and realistic at helping me pinpoint my weaknesses as a singer so I can continue to find ways to improve. Bristol Recording and Voice Studios have made my dreams to become a professional singer/performer a reality. Not only do they have an excellent voice program, far more advanced than any other voice teachers that are out there, but they offer full artist development services. I was taking voice lessons in Los Angeles for about 4 years without much hope of really being successful in the music industry. I took the 5 week engineering and production courses at Bristol Studios and was blown away. They taught everything from mics and cables to the most professional DAWs available such as Pro Tools, Digital Performer, and Reason. The head engineer/producer, Chris Billias, was a great teacher and explained everything in a great way. I went from barely understanding midi and Reason into being able to create a song with multiple different sounds and patches. The production classes gave me a greater overall understanding on how/why different genre's of music sound the way they do. I am now currently interning at Bristol and it is great. I am actively working on sessions and in the office, not only learning how to be a great engineer but also getting the basics of how to run a successful studio. read more

Bristol Studios is a great place to go if you love to sing, but want to become a singer. The methods that they teach are modern and easily broken down which is great because you actually learn how to sing music that you like to listen to. I had previously taken voice lessons with someone who expected me to read and sing old sheet music which didn't allow me to develop my own unique style. April is my teacher here at Bristol now and she has helped me so much in just 3 months! She is an awesome singer and gives me great feedback on how to improve the songs that i'm working on. I studied with Brent a few years back. In terms of instructors, his energy and excitement made the lessons. Unfortunately, the method was not the right method for me and created a lot of vocal strain. I could not sing for more than 30 minutes without blowing my voice out. I took lessons here for about a year. I switched to a different teacher and method and was able to resolve the pressure and pain that was cuased from me learning the Bristol Pop method. I heard many singers in there with nice voices, but this method destroyed my voice. It took me well over a year to reverse the negative habits I learned. read more

I started taking lessons at Bristol in 2011 and so far I have accomplished a lot. I have recorded originals, and now I post my videos and cover songs on youtube. I am very happy with the method of teaching, the coaches, the exercises, the way of learning how to sing high notes,etc. My teacher now is Lauren and she is a very professional singer which has been singing for a long time and really knows what she is talking about.
