Even after dragging Hiwatt amps to him over a 15 year period, he has never been bewildered by funky UK vintage (tube) amps. In an earlier case, it took my burining out preamps over and over and bringing it back like a cranky case..he could have shoved it aside, but basically kept diagnosing...ultimately the amp just fried every time I took a Roland guitar synth into its inputs! I will add, like the old ad, "its not nice to fool mother nature", and honestly his backlog is worth the wait, but let's give him a break-he says he's working overtimie & o/n's. Half-seriously, I'd Go-Fund his business to keep it from retire/closing! Show the owner some patience before it turns into a condo! BTW, the other music "school" repairer on Ma Ave couldn't be bothered to even bench test my latest amp (1960's!)..I had to drag it in/out w almost 2 months wait time (guess they had lots of Casio keyboards and picollo mix boards at Berklee beforeth my lowly, fussy amp, (as well as me)!. I've been going to Aztech and Tom since their old days at Fresh Pond. There's a reason for that. There's really nothing else like him in the area, both in terms of services and command of his craft. All the other five-star reviews can give you the details on specifics, but suffice to say I live on Martha's Vineyard now, and will make a trip into town just to be able to work with him. Add in his wonderfully salty New England sense of humor and it's a can't miss. Do note that Aztech's services are in huge demand. Tom the owner is a consummate professional, who will address the problem you came to him in the first place as well as the problems you were not aware existed. You will come out with your amp sounding better than it ever sounded since the time you purchased it. Aztech Electronics was recommended to me over 10 years ago by a Berklee professor. Every time, he has done magic with the Vintage Fender, Ampeg, Vox amps that I have purchased over the years. If you need a repair or a modification on your amp, Aztech Electronics is the place to go. My Ampeg SVT4-Pro bass amp had started intermittently screeching and cutting out so after reading the reviews of various Boston-area shops, I called Aztech and spoke to Tom. He was familiar with the amp and had heard similar reports in the past so I brought it in. He agreed to fit me into his busy schedule so I'd have it for a gig in less than two weeks. He spent 3+ hours on the amp troubleshooting and was never able to replicate the problem in the shop but he inspected and re-soldered everything that he could and replaced the tubes. Though we're still not sure what exactly was wrong with it, the amp works great now and he finished three days earlier than he promised. Tom will my first call from now on and if you're a musician with a problem with your amp, I'd say he should probably be yours too! 2018 update: 4 Years and hundreds of hours of playing later.. the problem has never come back read more

I spoke to Al and he was extremely informative and helpful over the phone in regards to warranty information and what the repair may or may not cost. He was very patient and helpful. Always loved Aztech. I have 5-6 repairs a month from a nightclub and expected great things. What I got was exactly the opposite. It took two months to get my record player repaired with very little contact for updates and NO apologies. Blaming the snow and health issues. Despite this I was completely understanding. Once notified it was FINALLY done, i notified my boss who took two weeks to write a check. (Net 30 is fairly standard but I rushed it so Aztech could get paid. Even though they didn't rush at ALL for me) In those two weeks I was berated by phone calls like a bill collector. Tom and Allan gave me a huge amount of attitude and demanded credit card numbers (because they didn't trust a check that was $500) even though we'd had previous repairs with them and paid up front as well as deposits. They offered NO discount on the huge delay on the repair nor an apology and after we were so patient with them, they had an attitude for us taking the time to get them paid. In the two months it took them I had multiple repairs to and from Bill at ECLPS. Bill is amazing and took one week turnover. Nice and most importantly UNDERSTANDING Unlike the crew at Aztech They used to be top notch. I don't know what's happened but I won't be bringing them more work. read more

Old school to the max AND THAT IS A GOOD THING. Tom is classically trained in discrete solid state and tubes. He has years of experience in the electronic music space. He has a classic work ethic. He asked all the right questions about my M-Audio BX5a near field monitor buzz that allowed him to do the repair as efficiently and affordably as possible. When I suggested I might know the cause, HE LISTENED and asked me to send the web info for this known issue SO THAT WE COULD BOTH SAVE TIME. Now this is not typical behavior for an electronics diagnostician lol but is to be appreciated and admired. I called at 10 AM, I had the speaker to him by 11 AM, and by working together he was able to call me with a finished repair by 5 PM and his estimate (fair and reasonable) was the exact charge, even though he needed to so some cleaning up of a mess left by the previous repair shop. I really doubt you will find better than this shop no matter where you live. If these guys were in LA, they would be getting 2-3X the rate and revered as gurus. Tom has been doing my amps since the 80's. I would not take an amp to anyone else in the area. Hands down he is the best. He has worked on Marshalls and Fenders for me, tube and solid state and the results are always stellar. I'm surprised there aren't more reviews on here for AZTech. This place is amazing. It's kind of like any hobbyist EE's dream come true. There are tons of amps and electronic devices in various stages of repair all over the place and bins full of parts probably ten feet tall in places. I went in to have Tom take a look at a 1984 JCM 800 - I thought one of the pre-amp tunes was acting up. He called later that day to give me the lay of the land and make a few suggestions (which we all great) and pointed out that it had been modded at some point for more gain. I told him to go ahead and work his magic. The turnaround was extremely fast (just a couple days). When I went in to pick it up, he showed me where the mod had been made on a schematic and gave me some more background on how it should sound in case I decided there was anything I wanted to change. Tom is really great at explaining what he thinks should be done to an amp. He also gets the job done FAST and above all, is a really nice guy. I recommend this place as much as anywhere in boston for tube amp repair. btw - you will definitely drive by it at least once the first time you try to find it. read more

I've been taking my amps to Tom for years. He's the best. He's very clear on what he's doing, and will take the time to go through it with you. He even let me work with him a bit to understand my homemade univibe that was behaving unpredictably. He's done repair work and even modification work to my amps, and his work is always impeccable. And he's funny on the phone too. Only downside..... Well, sometimes the wait is kind of long. But, thats because he's the best. He's got a pile of amps he has to get through and, while he has some assistants, theres only one of him. I don't mind. Its worth it. When my amps go up in smoke, they go to Tom. I've taken a Marshall JCM900 to him for a re-tubing and fix-er-up, and later a vintage Korg modular effects unit which was acting up (and which another repair shop couldn't figure out how to fix it). I just moved to Boston, and had an issue in channel switching arise just after moving. I tried to get the issue fixed at a repair shop in Back Bay, which ended up resolving nothing. I then called Mesa Boogie and they recommended Aztech. I took the amp there with no expectations at all, just hoping that I didn't have to go through ordering replacement parts and the whole ordeal. Tom was always nice, maintained great communication, and repaired my issue ahead of time!
