Now normally I can never find an entire suit set to fit my odd body, but clearly this suit was purchased by my future self and left to charity I passed... yeah, that must be it. Beside this, the vibe of this shop is a little dif from your regular charity joint. The chick who I've seen in here on most occasions, has a slight hipster / librarian vibe going on, but minus the aloof manner. With this in mind, you can see that she puts out some effort into digging through the mountains of gear to find the odd hidden gem. So yeah, for vintage gear in the West End at non West End price... you could do worse than check out this joint.

Most of the clothing in here would suit older generations, with high quality V neck knits and a copious amount of lilac skirts and shirts! All were well priced and kept in really good condition - an easy outfit option for fancy parties! There was also an amiable selection of clothes for gents, including a large supply of jackets. The volunteers were hard at work keeping this place clean and orderly when I entered, and were notably in high spirits which is always nice on a rainy day! They were hard at work on an Easter display - gotta love a charity shop with seasonal themes. They had broken out the Easter bunnies from the back for this special occasion, and I must admit I did giggle when I heard one of the ladies comment on how one of the toys was "nice, but glaikit lookin'". What a greatly underappreciated Scots word, and to great comic effect - for those of you not from these parts it means you look a bit morose and downtrodden. Seeing people happy in their job is a rarity these days and it was pleasant to see these ladies getting into the Spring spirit of things.

I like this charity shop a lot!…read more Not only is it fronting an imperative cause, but on a more superficial level this shop has a lot of quality goods to offer! Most of the clothes are well spaced out throughout the store and in really good nick. There are some high street brands to be had, but also clothes to suit an older generation. To keep the tea lady inside me happy, there's always ample supply of crockery to be discovered in these parts (the people who donate in Victoria Road obviously have good taste), including some rather beautiful, chintzy tea pots and fireplace figurines. They still sell videos, they seem to frequently be supplied with old Playstation games (which are fastly becoming a rarity with the speed technology evolves), and a shelf dedicated to books. I'm usually successful at finding something I like in this shop and it seems to be a regular haunt for the locals too, from mums who've just picked their kids up from school to a meeting ground for retired ladies looking for a new jacket. The staff seem helpful enough and it's so clean everytime I visit someone is hoovering! On my most satisfying journey to this place I came out with a 30pence book full of Sweater Knits from the 80s. There are some absolutely howling patterns in there so this review will be getting updated when I eventually get round to knitting the sweater with the knitted adder winding its way up to form a polo neck...I kid you not. Watch this space, but more importantly keep your eyes peeled for bargains in this shop!

Hi to everyone…read more Just to let you know that Macmillan Cancer Support have recently started an initiative, whereby they are taking Cancer Support to another level in the Glasgow area, which means that any person in the Glasgow area will not be more than one and a half miles from a Cancer Support Team who are / will be located at various libraries , and eventually every library in the city. The core issue is to support anyone affected with cancer, their families, and carers. Its as easy as ABC you just pop in to the library where you will be met a trained volunteer, who in the first instance will offer s listening ear, assist you find the information you may need on living with all aspects of cancer. Moreover they will arrange counselling appointments for you at the library, also on offer is the chance to take up some of thew following ( reflexology aromatherapy. In addition there is a service which in my view is superb, the volunteer will liaise with thew Macmillan Benefits Adviser to ensure that if you have cancer you receive all the benefits that are entitled. In essence this is a first in Glasgow and a real step forward in making sure that no one faces cancer alone We all know someone who has or is affected with cancer, so please pass on the word, help is out there.

Having left London a little broken hearted, forced to kiss goodbye the lovely sewing cafe at the end of my street... my eyes were dried the minute I realised Glasgow had the ultimate trump card: A SEWING PUB! The Hillhead Bookclub is such a fabulous venue and it's a great space for this friendly little group. Tucked in an upstairs nook, the atmospheric lighting makes for weekly needle-threading hilarity! If I could sew within a 5m radius of a cracking bar every night - I'd be a very well dressed alcoholic (with really great curtains). While I'll be honest to say I had originally expected more of a fabric/pattern sewing vibe - as opposed to more crafty-esque sewing projects - it's a stroke of genius to have bright, super fun projects that can be whipped up in great company over the space of a couple of hours. All patterns and supplies are provided (I know, right?!) - absolute beginners are welcomed, you just bring along a smile and willingness to get stuck in. Iona has created something truly remarkable and I still can't quite believe Say It Ain't Sew catch-ups are absolutely free of charge... spreading magic sewing fairy dust to any who may seek it.
