Established in 1981.

A Brief History of British Swim School Believe it or not, British Swim School was born after many months of council meetings and permitting disputes to install a basement pool in Rita Goldberg’s Manchester home! The swim school first opened to 120 children and grew rapidly due to the critical need for survival-based swimming instruction. Over the next twelve months, countless hours were dedicated to perfecting the gentle and highly effective teaching methods that are a recognized trademark of the brand today. In fact, most of our teaching methods have remained unchanged over our 40-year history! Ten years later, British Swim School was brought to the United States before subsequently launching a franchise system to bring survival-based swimming lessons and water safety education to as many communities as possible!

Meet the Business Owner: Greta H.

I was born and raised in Budapest, Hungary, and always had a love for the water. My childhood home was just up the street from the Danube River. Budapest is famous for its numerous thermal baths with healing properties and Hungary also has Lake Balaton which is the largest freshwater lake in Europe. Swimming was always part of growing up. In 2014, my husband and I moved from Dubai to the Washington DC area. Our daughter first started British Swim School in Germantown, Maryland back in 2017. It has been a bit of a struggle with getting our son to learn to swim properly since we moved to Texas. With so many people having swimming pools we have really pushed to turn him into a proper swimmer. He has been in and out of various classes but nothing stuck. We did a lot of research and interview prior to deciding on opening British Swim School in Pearland. Our overall goal is drowning prevention in the community. We plan to expand to further locations in SE Texas.
