I went to Briton Ferry Workmens Club this evening around 7pm with my husband and son. We went into the bar and my husband and myself ordered a round of drinks while my son set up the pool table for him and his father to play.
We paid for our drinks and sat down by the pool table. The Steward, who had allowed us to order and pay for the drinks then came over to me to tell me that women are not allowed in the bar, but I could go and sit in the darts room if I liked!!! How antiquated....
I find it unbelievable that in this day and age women are effectively barred from sections of Briton Ferry Workmens Club, and feel that the fact that I was allowed to order and pay for drinks gave me the right to be there.
My advice would be to drink somewhere else - somewhere that doesn't discriminate in this way.
It's little wonder that these clubs are dying out slowly but surely.
I have awarded it one star only because it will not allow me to leave the field blank. read more
