Shemekia Copeland's "Uncivil War" shook the blues from the plaster in the Palace. Her voice needed no amplifying and she demonstrated that throughout the nite! It was like sharing a seat on her couch in her home. The Band was electrified Shemikia's voice to those who sit in the clouds. First time, I had heard her music - it was the name of the album/cd that sent me to Stafford Springs! - "Uncivil War" True confession. No Red or Blue here just true life experience, history, present and a hope to change the future by LISTENING to the "messages" she sends in her music need to be heard by all. She was very flexible in allowing us access to the hall to get everything set up for the big day. Everyone at our wedding marveled at how beautiful and historic the center was. There was plenty of parking behind the center and its location in Old Wethersfield provided the perfect backdrop. The sound system was excellent and allow us to plug right in and play music. There's a small area to set up a bar and plenty of rooms to get ready in. Jill and her team were outstanding hosts and I highly recommend renting from them for any event you have planned.

Last year it was very cold, I noticed this year the windows are covered making it much more agreeable as I am always cold! Catering to a mature crowd, it is not boisterous and you can actually hear the lyrics. Tickets can be purchased on line and they partner with Willington Pizza so you get a 15% discount with your ticket. Bring your own food and beer or wine keeps the evening out very affordable.Please support this non profit gem so it can continue. My friend threw his baby shower here and I can see this place being used for a variety of events. I would say that there was easily about 140 of us here comfortably. I don't know what the official capacity is but it could definitely hold way more because we didn't even make use of the upstairs space. The bathroom is nice - only downside is that it didn't have a baby changing table . Parking is decent . You can park in the lot right in front or go around the building and park there . Great country to drive around in. We took all the back roads. We watched the Shooting on horseback which was the only thing that was good. Now that I know the shooters put on their own shows I have no reason to go back to this fair. Onto the bad... pig races. The commercial building had nothing of any interest in it. All very low level flea market stuff. The animal building only had a few cows, some goats and pigs. Not a very big showcase at all. There was very little in the way of education such as antique farm equipment and virtually no history behind anything. This fair consisted of all food booths and kiddy rides. We stopped at a booth to get a cup of "fresh squeezed" lemonade and some fried dough with sauce. Fried dough with sauce was inedible due to the horrifically bad sauce. Ended up in the garbage. $6 wasted. $7 lemonade was terrible. Did not have enough lemon to it and very little sweetness to it. Overall the fair was one of the worst I've ever been to. I would think better of it if it wasn't $10 a ticket just to get in.
