Both teachers, Ms. Angie and Ms. Marizol, are truly wonderful with our son. They are encouraging, engaging, patient, and fun. We were told that it can take some children 1-3 months to stop crying after drop-off, but our son stopped crying after just the first week, which speaks volumes about the kindness and care they show him. What impressed us even more is how quickly we began to see growth. After just his first week, our son learned to sneeze into his arm, and we've noticed him forming his sentences more and more each day. The school provides weekly curriculum updates, which we love, and they also focus on a monthly book, reinforcing learning in a thoughtful, intentional way. It truly reflects an authentic Montessori learning style. The campus itself is adorable, spacious, and thoughtfully designed for children. The activities offered are precious and intentional, from the Thanksgiving kiddie potluck to Spirit Week and the Christmas recital. Another huge plus is that the school offers lunch and snacks for an additional $100 per month, which is very reasonable and takes a lot of daily stress off parents. The only con I would note is the number of days off throughout the year while still requiring full monthly tuition. This can be challenging, as it requires parents to take multiple days--and even weeks--off work. That said, it is the only downside we've experienced. We initially gave this school 5 stars, and while we still love and appreciate the teachers, it's important to note that a rating reflects the entire experience--including management. Since we don't deal with administration daily, it hasn't impacted us as much, but our confidence in upper management isn't what it once was. It's still a good option overall, especially because of the teachers--but don't expect the same level of excellence across the board.

He's more confident, has picked up so many new words, is forming sentences, and is becoming more independent every day--it's been beautiful to watch. The staff is incredibly kind, attentive, and thoughtful in how they care for the children and structure their weekly routines. We also really appreciate the monthly lunch menu option--it's affordable, convenient, and includes five meals per week plus snacks, which makes life so much easier. A very special shoutout to his teachers, Ms. Angelica and Ms. Marizol. They have played such a huge role in his growth and development, and it's clear how much care, patience, and intention they bring every day. Another big thank you to the director, Ms. Marissa, who does an amazing job managing the school and ensuring the grounds are always clean, welcoming, and well cared for. She truly goes above and beyond, and it shows in every detail. We're so grateful to have found a place that supports our son's growth in such a nurturing and intentional way. Highly recommend!

Since enrolling our daughter 2 years ago, we've seen such incredible growth in her--both socially and developmentally. She's become more confident, communicative, and curious, and it's been so rewarding to watch her thrive in this environment. The teachers and staff truly make this place special. They are warm, patient, and incredibly dedicated to the children in their care. It's clear how much effort and heart they put into what they do every single day. We especially appreciate the balance they maintain--while they keep parents informed and updated, their main focus is rightfully on caring for and engaging with the kids. We understand that constant, hourly updates aren't realistic in a hands-on environment like this, and it honestly reassures us that their time and attention are going toward the children. We always feel that our daughter is safe, supported, and genuinely cared for. The communication we do receive is thoughtful and meaningful, and we trust the team completely. You can truly tell that this school puts a lot of thought into creating a positive and enriching environment. We're so grateful to have found a place where our daughter is happy, learning, and growing every day. Highly recommend to any parents looking for a loving and supportive daycare! We would like to mention every person who has helped in our daughter's development and character: Thank you to Teacher Charlie and Ms. Diana. They are trilingual - Spanish, English, and Chinese which is amazing! Kiddo now will switch between English, Chinese and (very limited Spanish) when he wants something! The teachers are fantastic and seem like they really care and their ratio is well sized (maybe like 1:4?). I love the diversity here in kids they care for, and all the activities they have for the kids like taking them to the library, having out door play time, having the firefighters come by (for them to check out the truck!). They even have some special activities for parents to participate in on holidays. Above all, they are also extremely communicative and understanding. We love getting the videos and pictures of our lil one throughout the day and overall he's just so happy here! It's gonna be so hard to find anything comparable!!!

But this time we do feel the urge to review and recommend Discovery World, the best childcare and preschool in South Bay Area! We originally toured DW in 2022 when our daughter was 18 months old. But because of their waitlist at that time, we decided to go to another daycare in this area. A huge mistake we really wish we hadn't made (a terrible experience for our little one and us parents too. We had to pull her out there after only one month). Fortunately our baby was able to join DW in 2023/08. Everything is different here. Experienced teachers, friendly staff, fun activities, and so much more! What really impressed us and drew contrast to other preschool is, how loving and caring everyone is at DW. Our daughter was shy at drop off. Every morning, the teachers (thank you Ms. Julie and Ms. Iana) would come greet her and hug her to help her ease into the classroom!!! Every teacher and staff knows every child very well, chats and plays with them. Teachers from different classrooms all learn about every student's hobbies (thanks Ms. Marni for reading "panda book" to our baby) and even their stuffie (they know the names of my daughter's TY "Jenni" kitties:-)). DW communicates with parents all the time (photos and videos every day, several teacher-parent conferences every year). DW offers great curriculum and the teacher execute very well. And DW organize the best activities (playing basketball at The LAB is my daughter's favorite). There are so much more to say about DW... We can't thank you enough Ms. Liana and your whole DW team for the amazing work in our little ones' early education!!!

Discovery World was such a blessing during his earliest years; he thrived and had wonderful relationships with all his teachers, who always took sincere interest in his well-being and development. They communicated with us often and were always more than happy to give us updates and anecdotes about his day. Discovery World also prepared him well for the move to "real" school, working with him on academic development (e.g., recognizing letters and numbers) and on social development (e.g., articulating feelings and resolving conflict). We've been so happy with Discovery World that we got our daughter on the waitlist before she was born. She's now attending as well, and whenever we pick her up our son's former teachers always ask about him. We're grateful to have found such a wonderful place for our children to spend their preschool years and very much appreciate the thoughtfulness and dedication of the Discovery World teachers and staff.

A Concerned Parent's Experience…read more I've heard it said that you should occasionally show up at your child's school unannounced--because that's when you truly see what's going on. I'm sharing my recent experience in that spirit, as a caution to current and prospective parents. I'm the mother of a 5-year-old and a 22-month-old. During a visit to New Horizons, my daughters were quietly playing with rocks outside a classroom when a teacher came out and scolded them. The issue wasn't that she asked them not to play with the rocks--it was how she addressed them. Her tone was harsh, her voice raised, and she slammed the door before coming back out again, this time yelling directly at my 22-month-old. She then turned to me and shouted, "Are you going to make her clean that up?" I remained calm, cleaned up the rocks, and apologized. But her demeanor throughout was aggressive and unsettling--not only toward my children but also in the presence of the class she was supervising. What I witnessed was deeply troubling. If I saw a teacher at my child's school behave this way toward any child, let alone a toddler exploring the world, I would be seriously concerned. I left that day feeling fearful for the well-being of the children in her care. I share this not out of anger, but out of a sense of responsibility. Please do your research. Speak with other parents. Ask questions. Because what I saw raised serious red flags about the environment at this school--and about who is being entrusted to guide and care for very young children.

[Review #248] 2018 Yelp 100 Challenge (11/100)…read more GD&HP did not have any infant openings, so I was referred to Christine de Mel by her colleague, who also happens to be my daughter's former preschool teacher. And because of this connection, I felt I could trust Christine without a "formal" interview. Christine's Infant Care provides an intimate home daycare setting for infants & toddlers. While licensed for more children, Christine, aka Ms. D, chooses to limit 4 children under her care. The interior space is small but neatly organized for feeding, diaper changing, napping, playtime, & learning. The backyard is stocked with scoot cars, a water table, & other outdoor toys that are age-appropriate for your child. Parents are responsible for: diapers; wipes; diaper cream; lip balm; food, snacks, & milk; sunscreen; extra clothes; bibs & burp cloths; & crib sheets. Pros: 1) great hours (7:00 AM-6:00 PM), especially for working parents; 2) clean home/facility; 3) time-off/holidays that coincide with work schedule (New Year's Day, President's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving (Thursday & Friday), Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve), & there's no charge when Christine is ill or takes a vacation; 4) child may take up to 5 school days/calendar year at half price; 5) competitive tuition & low application fee; 6) low enrollment = more attention to your child; 7) daily log of your child's feeding, diaper changing, & napping schedule (I'm very Type A, so I LOVE this because I can keep tabs on my son's day); 8) on occasion she will text you some pics of their daily activities or special occasion pic (I LOVE our 2017 holiday pic of the kids... SO ADORABLE!); 9) Ms. D will work with you & your baby's needs (e.g. my son had a bad night & woke up early, she fed him earlier to start his nap earlier & he took a longer nap... I knew he did make-up the loss of sleep at naptime because he no longer has dark circles under his eyes; another example, we were transitioning to sippy cups & he didn't finish milk so she suggested to keep his milk in the bottles & practice drinking water in sippy cups or cups... his bottles came back empty); 10) as your child gets closer to preschool, s/he will learn new skills/develop existing ones: how to self-feed; how to play with others & how to share (I found that in a smaller group, it has been easier for my son to "give up" a toy & share than when he's in a larger group); the alphabet & colors, how to count, etc. (I noticed a drastic improvement in my son's vocabulary from our story time discussions & his care at CIC; at 2 years old, my son can string 3-7 word sentences, not always grammatically correct but he is ahead of his neighborhood peers, but he has a lot to say... ;-) hehehe). Cons: 1) you're responsible for your child's snacks & lunch (my daughter's infant daycare had provided her meals & milk for the babies older than 1, & I only provided breastmilk until she weaned herself; that was a MAJOR bonus & timesaver for us); 2) your child may be photographed or video recorded while at the daycare & the images/videos may be uploaded on its website (by your enrollment, you consent to release of all media)... I'm mostly ok by this because her website isn't mainstream but some parents may have an issue so I'm pointing this out in case they didn't read the contract thoroughly. Overall, Christine's Infant Care is 4-1/2 stars; 1/2 star deduction for the snacks & meals, otherwise CIC would be perfect. When we're overwhelmed, we've either forgot our son's lunch or his food altogether :-*( so it would be a major advantage if food is provided. If you're unable to be a stay-at-home parent & need to find a trusted & quality care provider for your child, then look not further than Christine's Infant Care... I highly recommend Ms. D to look after your precious baby.
