My friend just lost her grandmother and made it very clear she is no-contact with toxic family members for very personal, long-standing reasons. Instead of respecting that boundary during one of the most vulnerable times in her life, a staff member looked her in the eye and said: "Don't you love your grandmother enough to take care of this." An EXACT quote. Said to a grieving woman who does love her grandmother, which is why she was there trying to make arrangements. Weaponizing her love for her grandmother to guilt her into contacting toxic family she has spent years protecting herself from is beyond unprofessional -- it's cruel. Grief is not a time to be shamed, pressured, or judged for your family boundaries. A funeral home should be a place of support, dignity, and understanding. We experienced none of that here. Just a complete lack of empathy and a stunning lack of professionalism.
