My wife and I were referred to this brokerage by a lender after obtaining a mortgage pre-approval…read more Because the brokerage is based in Sidney while our home is in Marysville, we specifically asked whether the distance would be an issue before agreeing to work with them. We were assured it would not. After our home was listed, we discovered the brokerage was not a member of the local Realtor association/MLS serving our area. This was never explained to us before we signed the listing agreement. As we learned more about how properties are marketed locally, we became concerned that our home was not receiving the level of local exposure we expected. Looking back, I believe the brokerage should have declined the listing if it could not provide local MLS representation. We were also disappointed with how our home was marketed. The listing photos were taken with a cell phone rather than by a professional photographer, and beyond placing the listing on major real estate websites and holding one open house, we saw very little additional marketing effort. The open house was another disappointment. We were initially told it had gone extremely well and that the agent believed it would likely result in an offer. Later, we learned there had only been one visitor whose contact information was obtained, and no offer ever materialized. Before the open house even began, the agent was unable to access our home because she was repeatedly entering the wrong code into her own lockbox. Our neighbor spent approximately 15 minutes helping before the correct code was finally used. The interaction was captured on our Ring camera, and our neighbor later told us the agent asked them not to tell us what had happened. Another concern was the handling of our paperwork. We repeatedly requested copies of the documents we had signed with the brokerage but did not receive them until after we had already begun discussing ending our relationship. After nearly a month on the market with very limited activity, we met with the broker to explain our concerns and respectfully requested a mutual release from our listing agreement. Rather than releasing us, we were told we would have to pay a $2,000 fee that was not contained in our agreement or continue working with another agent within the brokerage. Since our primary concern involved the brokerage's ability to represent properties in our area, neither option addressed the concerns we had raised. The broker's communication throughout this process was, in my opinion, unnecessarily confrontational and unprofessional. Although our listing was ultimately made inactive and the brokerage removed its signs and lockbox, our request for a mutual release of the listing agreement was repeatedly denied. Every real estate transaction is different, but this was our experience. Based on the level of service we received, the communication throughout the process, and how our concerns were handled, I would not choose to work with this brokerage again or recommend them to others.
