Incredible building and amenities completely tarnished by the staff. Rude, dismissive, and antiquated. The librarians here are certainly doing their best to put the last nail in the coffin of a dying "business". As with other libraries in the Westchester Library System, it's easy to go online and place a hold on a book and you can pick it up here or at any of the other libraries in the system. There used to be a charge, but not any more. The library itself has numerous quite spots in which you can sit in a comfortable chair with a nice view and quiet. It has recently built a large patio to the northern side--near the parking lot--which seems popular. It's a quintessential Bronxville institution, but seems to have a broader number of users than just Bronxville itself. read more

Three stars because this library is very quiet, and is essentially a repurposed 19th century mansion. As I suspected, the library staff was rude but like....who is ever surprised by that? Is anyone ever really shocked when they encounter high horse riding librarians? Basically, to make a long story short, my library card (that I lost a long time ago) is expired, so the library apparently could not allow me to use my driver license to check a book out. That's fine! I accepted that! But this b$&@ behind the counter lost her mind when I said I didn't want to put the book on hold, as if my refusal was some major insult. Like, yeah I doubt the Bxville people give a F about the Sopranos analysis book I was looking for...it'll definitely be there if I choose to return. I'll likely avoid coming here if I need a book again, but would consider using it for study space. read more

Re-visited one of my childhood libraries with my toddler. Still looks exactly the same! Had enough items to play with for a good hour in children's library. I must say the mothers I witnessed their allowing their kids to make a complete and total mess out of the children's room disgusted me. I was then talking to someone who says that happens there every day. The mothers I saw did not make their children put anything away. And the ones with children too young to clean up themselves simply left everything a mess. I told the librarian I really feel for her and cleaned up for her. Can't imagine what that nice lady has to clean up every evening. read more

Rude front desk employees. No welcome. Waited 12 minutes for a reference librarian for help. Very dissatisfied

The library is beautiful but the librarians on the first floor are super rude. And yes crotchety...what the other guy said, perfect word for them. They never respond when I or the children I nanny for say hello to them! And they also say nothing when we say "goodbye" or "have a nice night." I'm not a person to normally gets upset over something like that but there's really no reason to not respond. We came down like 5:15 to check our books out and one of them said "you need to come down earlier next time to check books out! We close at 5:25!" I said "I thought you close at 5:30." She replied, "no, we like to be out of here with the lights off closed at 5:30." Oh. I'm so sorry. Then her fellow crotchety librarian said "I'm going to shut down this computer." To which crotchety #1 responds "it should have already been shut down if I wasn't doing this!" Wow. You're lucky my kids love the play area upstairs and the lovely librarians UP THERE. If you don't have a love for people who love books (especially children), then maybe it's time to retire. Or find something else. Because nobody wants to deal with your awful attitudes. read more

This is a great library. Surprisingly bigger on the inside with a lot of character. The library looks like a house but it has been remodeled into a nice library. The children's section is fantastic with plenty of books and toys for all ages. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The library is kept in great shape and is always clean and well maintained. read more

This is a place I'm really going to miss in Bronxville. It's venerable colonial outside barely hints at the warm wood paneling and upholstered armchairs inside. Ship paintings and faux historical portraits add a little Bronxvillian tackiness to the mix, but is mostly tasteful and cozy. As a library, this place houses creepy Bronxville regulars and a terrible Dean Koontzy selection of books, but I can't think of a better ambiance for a Sarah Lawrence student to study outside of their own room. It is better than Slave to the Grind for its less noticeably annoying crowd, free wifi, wide selection of well appointed rooms in which to work, and most importantly, NO MUSIC. read more

I stopped by this library this past weekend to get some work done. The place is absolutely beautiful, such a calm atmosphere. On a Saturday afternoon it never got crowded at all & seemed like seats were always available. People were quiet & kept to themselves. The staff I had a chance to briefly talk to were nice. My only complaint is the parking situation. I understand the needed initiatives to prevent loiters from parking at the parking lot of the library but I still found it inconvenient to have to move my car after an hour & a half time limit. Distributing passes to place on cars given by the library would be more efficient. Nonetheless I now have a new place to study & focus on any work that needs my attention. read more

Hi Everyone, I am not one to write a review, though I often like to read reviews, so I thought why not write one on this Library? I am writing this from a place of nostalgia, dating back to approximately the year 2005, when I arrived here as a new immigrant to the United States. This Library served as my main reading area while I was preparing for my RN NCLEX board exam. As a new foreign trained Nurse in America studying to pass, this library was a very, quiet, beautiful place to study. The entire environment went a long way to provide a place not only for studying but also to be focused. I can say categorically that I own my passing the board on first attempt to God and the peaceful environment of study. Though I did not have much encounter with the staffs then. I believe much renovation would have been carried out on the Library, hopefully I would go back to find out how it looks now since I also reside in Westchester Chioma. O Mount Vernon NY read more

The library itself is absolutely beautiful with comfortable places to read and work. However, the ladies who work there are the meanest, most crotchety, old ladies I've ever encountered. I checked out a book last week and they made me feel like trash because my library card was expired. Then gave me false information about how to get it updated while acting as though I should have known how already. And that was the first time they've been rude. The Eastchester public library might not be as pretty or bougie as Bronxville, but the librarians are the sweetest people on earth. I once came to check out a book for the first time in a while and the child librarian there recognized me after nine years and even remembered my name. So I guess its up to you whether you prefer beauty or kindness from your library. Personally I don't care for people being rude to me for no reason. read more

It's a rather small library, so if you're looking for a diverse spread of books, chances are you might not find it here. However, if you're looking for a nice, quaint, quiet place to read/study, this library is perfect. It has a nice old school feel to it, with paintings in the walls, armchairs beside the largest windows, and plenty of seating. Pros: -free wifi -free parking (the library has its own parking lot) -cozy, quiet atmosphere -location is within walking distance of the stores (including Starbucks) along the main street in Bronxville. Library is nice but they charge you a fee for picking up books that you placed on hold here! Nowhere on their website or the Westchester library system website does it say that. They just have this printed out sheet of paper on the desk that says so once you go to pick up your books. I've lived all over and I've never heard of a library that charges patrons for picking materials. read more

Really enjoyed the program about all the famous jazz musicians buried at Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx. (Duke Ellington had eighteen plots.) They interspersed historical photos and discussion with a jazz trio playing the music of Ellington, Miles Davis, Coleman Hawkins, HC Handy and more. Best of all, I learned they still have PLOTS AVAILABLE on Jazz Hill in the cemetery if you want to be buried amongst the immortals. Sign me up! read more

One of my favorite places. I have never experienced what people are saying about the librarians. I have always (for seventeen years and counting) found them pleasant and helpful. They ARE protective of the quiet - because they're librarians. And they like to get out of work on time at the end of a long day, just like the rest of us. As for the parking, that's not the library, that's the village. And they no longer charge for holding books, though I believe that was a Westchester Library System policy. It's a beautiful, quiet place to work, and it is staffed by people who work hard to keep it that way. read more
