Brooke Street Pier located at Franklin Wharf is most notably known as the ferry terminal location for the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) Ferry. What you might not know about this structure is that it is a floating building and technically a boat itself as the building essentially sits on top of a barge. It is very new as it opened just last year.
The building serves as a tourism center as well as a place for Tasmanian artisans to sell their wares. Inside you will find the MONA counter in which you can buy tickets to the museum and for the ferry. Tour companies like Gray Line also have a counter to book day tours around Tasmania.
And then there are a few open space booths with different Tasmanian goods on offer like cheeses and whisky tastings. If you are looking to nosh, there is a cafe at the front of the complex along with a restaurant and a cocktail bar in the back. Given the waterfront location, I am sure dining at one of these establishments would make for a nice time with a great view of the water.
While my time here was limited to my time going to and from the MONA Ferry, I like the modern design of this unique floating building. With many old buildings in the area, the Brooke Street Pier really stands out. Have a look inside here, whether or not you take the MONA Ferry. read more
