My rental car was hit by a white old lady in Rt.9. The driver was yelling at me and coming so close to my face. I called the police, I explained everything and I also told the police that is a rental car. As an African American the officer was yelling at me and telling me to get in the car right now!! I was so confused. When the officer went to the white old lady. The tone was absolutely different. Very low tone and super kind, and he was advising the white lady I was trying to claim money from the old lady insurance. Even though, I told him that the car was rental and he reviewed the paperwork. Just becareful, and have a camera in your car to record everything. read more

if I could give this police station zero stars I would. I grew up in Brookline. I'm 22 years old now I've never once had to call the police. I called them for the first time. It is a Saturday morning raining. Nothing is going on in this town yet. It still takes them over an hour to respond to my house. I've called the operator multiple times I get the same person. They are not busy. He is saying it's because of shift changes. I just have to say that this is a scary response time and I am writing this and they still have yet to respond. This past Saturday morning, I was driving on Comm Ave to bring my boyfriend to work. I'm pretty sure the speed limit is 30mph. It's early morning and NO ONE on the road. Enter in Officer Leadfoot/Crazy. Apparently I was driving too slow/the speed limit and he passed me, doing at least 35-40 mph JUST to pass me! Moments later, without using a turn signal, he turns off Comm Ave. Officers should be beacons of motor safety. Not to abuse power. So after he sped to pass me, cut me off, then made the turn with no blinker, that's it. I blew my horn. THIS is where things got real creepy, real fast. Since he was only tooling around, and breaking a few traffic laws, the second I blew my horn, he IMMEDIATELY starts chasing me. He tries to stare me down as he is now neck and neck with my car. I never looked at him. Nothing. This wasn't good enough for him. He then got behind me and starts tailgating me. If I did something wrong, why not pull me over? Because he knew he was driving like a douche. Anyway, the creepy following tactic lasted all the way after the rotary at the BU Bridge. So while real crimes could've been going on Saturday morning in the Brookline area, rest assured, your tax dollars paid for an officer to follow me like a creep, tailgate me and disappear once we got into a different jurisdiction. read more

Thanks for helping me get into my car after I locked my keys inside! Which was totally embarrassing btw. I've only had to deal with Brookline police 3 times and 2 out of 3 were perfectly fine. One was locking myself out of my car. The officer was very nice. Second, was when a meter maid or whatever ticketed my car for parking in the driveway at my job. The driveway is a bit short so your back bumper sticks out a bit, but for a year no issues. Then everyone at my workplace starts getting tickets. They hired a new person who was a stickler. I appealed the ticket which was super easy and the sergeant dismissed it on the spot and apologized. Third, which was years ago, this K9 cop pulled me over for making an illegal turn. It wasn't so he wasn't even able to write me a ticket. Pointless traffic stop. To me they're cool. read more

I find many of the reviews here unfair, to say the least. Well, as a socialism survivor, I can appreciate the quality and humane treats of American police, and Brookline guys in particular (with all the reservations). They do their job - one cannot blame them for that. But when/if there is a plausible explanation/excuse to your violation, there is a very good chance they forgive your ticket. They gave me a pass when, years ago, I was another city resident, parking my car in a wrong place in Brookline because there were no legitimate spaces next to my dentist's office. I came to the police station, and they canceled the fine. My friends who are Brookline residents told me they were forgiven tickets multiple times. Now, as a resident, I had a chance to test it myself. A couple of day ago, we repaired asphalt and had several parking lots in our premises to be blocked. A caregiver would come here and being unable to park her car in the guest parking, she left it in the street. She did get a ticket. But when I pleaded with the police on her behalf, they forgave her. So, please, let's be fair and truthful. read more

It was a silly mistake but it genuinely was an accident. 6 tickets in two days. $360 fines. I sincerely urge this department to find a better use of their time. The outside of the Brookline Police Station implies a false sense of competence and modernity. The strangely empty lobby is a very different story. A shockingly rude officer in uniform sat at a desk (the only thing in the lobby) He was carrying on a very loud, very long conversion with another man about lawn care. Lawn Care. In December. The other man turned as we approached the desk, no doubt expecting the officer to acknowledge us. No such luck. Officer Lawncare kept proclaiming the merits of Styrofoam (?!) and peat moss as if we weren't standing right there in front of him. I don't know if he ever would have addressed us but luckily we saw a tiny sign pointing to a window that said "tickets". So we approached the window. A woman zombie-walked over with a totally blank look on her face. We told her we wanted to pay tickets. She went away without saying anything and a second just slightly more alive zombie took our money. At this point I'd like to add that it was an exorbitant amount for 2 lousy parking tickets. I would also like to add that everyone working in this building is supposedly a "civil servant". They were neither civil nor effective servants. PLEASE get them some emergency customer service training. read more

The Brookline Police function primarily as an extortion racket. They are claiming that I have an unpaid parking ticket from *ten years* ago, and my license has now expired because I couldn't renew it. Trying to pay this ticket has been a Kafkaesque nightmare. They won't take payments over the phone, despite this obviously being within their ability to do so. Their procedure for paying old parking tickets is to mail them a money order, no personal checks allowed, and include a self addressed stamped envelope for them to mail you back a release. I predict this would take about two months. I am instead going to have to drive for hours to Brookline to hand these criminals their miserable $70 in person. Also, I love that they have a ".com" URL and not ".gov." It really says it all. read more

Going with the trend here, you're better off never bringing a vehicle into brookline. Ever. I'm pretty sure the majority of their day revolves around driving around brookline, taking notice of what cars are parked where, and just radioing each other how long they've been there to hand out tickets. On a different note, I had my car parked in one of the parking lots when one of the snowstorms hit in February. I was sick, so I had my GF pay the meter again the next day. Irregardless, and unbeknownst to me, still got a ticket. Asked my GF to pay for overnight parking for the next night, which she did. Another ticket, then a ticket for "storage", then they towed my car. I've given brookline so much money with parking tickets the least they could do is make some visitor parking somewhere.... read more

We called the police (office number, not 911) when our son (2nd grade) was missing after school. They responded right away, one cop came to our home and another one went to the school. He was found after a short time, turned out he went on a playdate without notifying us. Anyway, the police response was very quick, professional and helpful. We pay a premium for living in a town with a low crime rate, and I believe the police deserves some credit for that. read more

Brookline Police? wow. 5 tickets in 4 weeks for overnight parking when I clearly have a sticker that I pay 300.00 a month for. Sent them back asking for dismissal, and by the 5th ticket, I asked them to please have a conversation with the meter maid or meter man. Called the town of transportation, and they helped. They called as well and all tickets dismissed. So the same officer number appears on a ticket last night. But this was for parking during the day. However, I paid for the parking through the parking app. You think that is proof? Nope. The meter maid or man put a different number for the meter on a ticket and slapped it on my window. Now we have NO proof that I was not in the slot he recorded. What did the police say? "You have to be more careful to write the correct space number down." NOPE. I park in the same space every day and night. I know where I am parked. This is a personal vendetta. Now I have NO recourse. Meter officers can do what they want. read more

I received a parking ticket for parking overnight in Brookline, and I contested it with Brookline PD. I shared photographic evidence that the streets have no signs indicating overnight parking is disallowed. I insisted that if a ticket is given the street has to be properly marked as such. BPD dismissed my ticket. So that's nice. I recommend to everyone to not bring a car to Brookline, period. But I'll still give 3 stars on Yelp since BPD were nice about this once I made my request. America might be one of the most legally developed nations but we still have a long way to go with or justice system. read more

The Brookline Police are a joke. They don't actually fight crime, they just drive around and hand out parking tickets (oh, and don't forget the ridiculous speedtrap on route 9 where they lowered the speed limit a few years ago just so they could hand out more tickets.) I received a parking ticket for 2-hour overtime parking last month. The only problem was, a.) I wasn't parked there for 2 hours, and b.) the officer who wrote the ticket completely made up the time slot during for which I was parked there. I didn't get to the space until 1:45, but the ticket said I parked from 12:30 to 2:35. Then I had to go in and dispute the ticket, and the officer said that he would "only dismiss the ticket this once", and gave no apologies whatsoever. The fact that I even had to go in to dispute an illegitimate ticket like this is ridiculous. And this is not the only time I've received a bogus tickets from the Brookline Police. They are far too quick to hand out tickets and don't seem to care much about making sure they are legit. Also, I have heard stories from black and hispanic friends of mine about being pulled over by Brookline cops for b.s. reasons. You'd think in a town like Brookline that is all about touchy feely diversity, you'd have a police department that is relatively free from racism. Apparently not. Oh, and then there was the story in the Brookline Tab recently about the Brookline cop who beat the crap out of another guy (nearly killing him) over a simple argument (he was off duty, I might add). Not only did the Brookline Police refuse to prosecute him, but they tried to cover it up and would not release his name. Shameful. read more

Awful. Where do I start... From harassment all the way to parking tickets and their dispatcher. BROOKLINE SUCKS. Town is beautiful, but man do we have some issues in it! The cops are racist, I've been followed plenty of times, stared at like I'm committing a crime, and harassed. I love being followed while I drive down the street to my house by a cop car so they can check and see if I'm driving a stolen car or if I have warrants (let's not forget, I grew up here, went through the school system here, and happen to be a young African American woman driving a new expensive car)... I have lived my whole life here pretty much, besides college. But point is, the cops in this town love to harass young kids, let alone the minorities. Minorities are constantly being searched from illegal contraband and put behind in classes due to "learning disabilities" and so much more. Let ALONE the town is constantly sued for discrimination. Clearly the superintendent of brookline said it perfectly when picking their new high school head master," brookline is not ready for a black head master." But hey, what do I know. ANOTHER THING! The dispatchers are insanely rude. I called for an ambulance (for an emergency from 911- which transferred me to brookline) to not only be put on hold, BUT to argue with the dispatcher after. She refused to just send an EMT, with out collecting my information. (Fine, what ever). I give the information, including my cell phone number (but my phone had died which caused me to use a different phone that was not mine- so I didn't know the number by heart) and after I stated all my information (including MY phone number) she states that I need to know the number I'm calling from... (At this point, yes I am beyond aggravated) I explain to her I don't know the number and she begins to argue with me about it. Finally she says that the number I'm calling from doesn't match the phone number I gave her, which she had all along, just so she could confirm where I was calling from. OH WAIT, DONT WORRY 911, I DONT NEED AN EMT! Once 1st responders come, it's a couple fire fighters. One enters the room to see the person, the other two sit in the hall way staring at the wall looking annoyed they were called. After comes a cop (which interviewed us) then finally the EMTs, much later than expected.... The EMTs were incredibly rude. Let alone the whole time as we were being questioned, or may I say investigated, no one was doing anything except looking at the wall and asking pointless questions! The EMTs demanded we pretty much restate everything we said to the cop, but I am pretty sure they get paid to communicate. 4 am in the morning, I am not interested in continuing the nonsense of this system. Brookline police/(1st responders) get paid to do nothing. They trap people in traffic and parking tickets. They harass people. They get paid way to much. They are assholes, and don't deserve any stars on yelp! Rather than helping my friend who was drugged during a night out, they would rather know which chair I claimed to be sitting in before I picked her up. Awful service. Awful regulations. I had 2 parking tickets from Brookline. I tried paying them online but the system made no sense, saying I paid half of one and the entirety of another....so I mailed in my check with a stub. 30 days later I received my check, a stub, and maybe 3 handwritten characters that were illegible and explained nothing. They sent the notice to my check address, not my return address. The check address is my old college. My old college forwarded it to my parents old house. The PO at my parents old house sent it to my parents new house, and finally the letter came back to me. It literally went to the Western most part of the state to the Eastern most part of the state before finally getting back to me, and I live 1 mile from Brookline PD. I called and was told one ticket had been paid, I need to pay the other. I sent in another check, it was returned a week or so later saying it had been paid already. I called and was told I put the wrong ticket number on the check, even though I had written the check was for whichever ticket number was unpaid. I asked if I could mail payment that day without issue, the lady said "yes, not a problem." 1 week later the RMV says they received my ticket, I owe $70. I called, some dispatch officer told me too bad, it's $70. I went in to appeal and told them I tried to pay the damn thing 3 times. The appeals officer gave me hell, first indicating the correspondence wasn't from them (I then showed him the envelopes with their return address), then saying I can't pay by check (I showed them the stub that says "Make checks payable to:") and finally he says "I'm not going to make a federal case about this," dropped the fees and brought it down to the original amount. This is a JOKE. I don't feel safe given that this is the competence from the self-important Brookline PD. SHAME! read more

So I pull out my flash cards and study. 20 minutes rolled by... nobody came. This is a review specific to paying parking tix online. Folks, let's get with it, we're well into the 21st century. Instead of being able to pay for multiple parking tickets in one transaction based on license plate (like Boston and other towns), one needs to enter each one individually: violation #, license plate #, and c/c info. Annoying and inefficient. How about taking some $ from the bountiful coffers bolstered by parking ticket payments and applying some of it to software upgrades. Just a suggestion. read more

Never had an issue with Brookline PD. They've always been fair to me. Seems like the vast majority of the negative reviews are from people who don't understand the parking situation in Brookline, which I understand could be frustrating, and have decided to blame the police for enforcing the rules. Pay for your parking, follow the instructions on the signs, move your car to a lot at night, and you won't get tickets. I do think it should be MUCH easier to purchase an overnight street parking permit for visitors. I should be able to do this online. But that's another matter. read more

Terrible. They claim they gave me a parking ticket that I have never seen. I was with my friend at that time. My friend doesn't recall the ticket either. They claim the violation was committed in the second week of December. I get a charge from my car leasing company in April! No other notifications, nothing. I dispute the charge asking to provide details - where the violation took place and what was the name of the police officer issuing the ticket. I receive the reduced fine (from $40 down to $25) and the statement that there was no evidence for the ticket being unfair. That's it! My attempts to figure out the details of the ticket over the phone provided failed. What am I to do?! The worst police department ever! read more

They wouldn't let me pay for the parking ticket online/over the phone and since it's a Friday, they close at 12:30pm for no logical reason. that means I can't renew my registration until 2 days after it expires. First i thought a yelp review for Police department is ridiculous but then after the recent experience i felt compelled to write one. In brief, this police department makes a tonne of money by dolling out parking tickets for the slightest reason and then making the appeal process so difficult that one gives up and thinks .. its better to pay off the ticket than go through this ordeal. Here is my case... i parked on Beacon St. and paid by coins. I was late by a 5 mins, in which case the parking inspector was already standing in front of my car, writing a ticket. I intervened and requested her to please let go since i was back within 5 mins of ticket expiry. She said too bad i have already pressed the print button, its on record now ! . Next i took her name and ticket details and submitted online ticket, describing the above scenario and did not hear back for 4 weeks. I then went in person to the police dept and tried to settle in person.I was told the officer is away and was asked to come back at 430 for the appeal. At which point i couldnt leave my day job to visit the dept again and kept checking online. I get back a reply after another 2 weeks rejecting my appeal on the grounds of lack of proof. Now you tell me what proof do i provide ? Pic of expired ticket ? a selfie with the parking inspector ???? Finally i went online and paid my fine which by now had risen to $25. All in all, always a hassle visiting Brookline.. with one way streets, no left turns, most parking spots still use coins (i wonder when they can have solar lights why they chose not to upgrade the parking meters everywhere... read more

So professional! I haven't actually BEEN to the Brookline Police Department, however I called them. On July 28, 2016, there was a problem with a traffic light on Route 9 (the turn signal was completely blank at the Reservoir intersection). If you know anything about Route 9, you know that could cause a MAJOR accident, and I thought they should know about it. Not only was the woman who picked up the phone FRIENDLY (in my town of Westwood, they really aren't that friendly), she took an interest in fixing the problem rather then just saying "we will have someone go check it out". Even though some others may not like this, I was flattered they asked for my contact information in case they couldn't find the issue.... showing they actually care. All in all, great service from the Brookline Police. Next time I go flying down Route 9, I'm assured it will be fixed. These people are really a role model for other Police Departments! 5 stars for the Brookline Police Department. read more

Need fingerprinting for licensure purposes. The website states: "Monday - Thursday (excluding holidays), 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm, By appointment- Call 617-730-2239." When I called to make an appointment, Joe stated this was, in fact, inaccurate and I must come between 8am and 10am. I mentioned I was not available during these times and that the website stated I could make an appointment for the afternoon between 1pm and 3pm. He changed the story and said we could make an appointment a week in advance. But next week wasn't good for them because they were closing early (every day?). Husband got citation $25. Attemplted to pay online per instructions on citation, website claims won't recognize tkt for 10 days, so I waited and finally got through and paid via credit card online. It received what looked like a "confirmation". Now we get Lic Suspension in mail saying it was not paid!!! Small print on confirm said "error" which I did not see. We should put this on a ref for voting in Nov to remove onerous lic suspensions for non payment of park tix etc. RIDICULOUS!! read more

This is a personal experience that I wish to be recognized. I lost my wallet while running for errands and was looking all over, when the shop clerk advised me to speak to the police officer nearby. It turned out that his colleague on patrol received my wallet from a kind passerby who found it, and he was on his way to my address to return it. The officer kindly asked him to come around to hand it back to me which he did immediately. For me, it was something totally unexpected in an urban area of the US. I'm convinced that the punishing rent is well spent for this sense of security they maintain. Thank you, officers! read more
