Based on a local recommendation (thanks Heiko) we made our way to Brooklyn directly from our hotel. When we walked through the door we noticed immediately that the place was completely rammed. All the tables were fully booked up, but there was space at the bar that suited us perfectly. It was a typical burger/cocktail/beer bar that you would find anywhere in a big city across the globe these days. The decor was exposed brickwork and "8 Mile" style signs. The staff were very friendly and (for Germany) they had a decent range of craft beers and also tonnes of cocktails. The atmosphere was great for a Tuesday night, really busy and lively. On the food side of things I would say the burger was pretty solid, but not spectacular. I had the chimchuri and it was a good size with plenty of toppings. The chips were a bit to thick and bland for my taste. More wedges than fries, but they were ok. Scoring for the bar itself, staff, drinks and atmosphere were all a 5, but the food was perhaps a 3.5. Overall a good 4 and I would recommend it highly as a place to visit for a bite to eat or even just a drink two. read more

Immediately was greeted with a poor attitude by one of the waitresses as we came through the door. We sat down, ordered some drinks and food and noticed more then a couple dozen fruit flies on the wall and shelves. Absolutely off-putting and disgusting. Hope they get this fixed soon. Before my friend and I had even gotten to Germany, he had already indicated that he wanted to stop by this place (it's funny because we're from New York). The sign indicating that this place was Brooklyn Burger Bar was actually kind of small, so definitely listen to Google Maps and don't wander off just because the word Brooklyn Burger Bar wasn't in your face and you think this is another random burger joint. For a burger joint where the hamburger was created, this was lackluster. Why try to imitate the Brooklyn vibe?! You have something way cooler, YOU HAVE HAMBURG! Haha, no I get it-- locals come here too. Their menu is in this clip board thing, and they have a large variety of burgers and beverages to choose from. I for one don't really like the whole clip board situation, especially because it was hard to flip the pages. Our waitress didn't seem very fond of us, it seemed as she was rushing us-- so eh, were we expected to sit down and immediately know what we wanted? The burger that I had was meh (the Chimichurri), it felt kind of dry. The burgers here are HUGE (very tall), and will require a knife and fork-- so I basically ended up dissecting my burger and eating the various pieces separately-- this might have been my fault due to my lack of knife and fork experience with burgers. Solid burgers. The interior and food is decent and good enough to bring clients. There were some interesting drinks, like the basil lemonade, which tasted like actual basil, had massive basil leaves in it and, believe it or not, was delicious! The burgers were not out of this world, any Burger Joint Hunter probably had better, but we left really satisfied. Fantastic place...so good that it fills up quickly. My team and I went there on Thursday night and were lucky to arrive at their opening time (we had 8 people). The burgers are amazing - several of us got the hangover burger, which included an egg, jalapeño and jack cheese. One person had a classic cheese burger "skinny" style (no bun) and loved it. The French fries are amazing - try the sweet potato ones with the lime chili mayo dipping sauce! And they have one of the biggest selections of bourbon that I'm come across outside of Lexington Kentucky. I will definitely come back here. read more

Supposedly the best burger in Hamburg, the city where the hamburger was created... but not fantastic It is a borderline 4 star but since they use ketchup in their main burger I can't give more than 3. To avoid ketchup I took the Chimichurri, a good burger with manchego cheese (which is always a great cheese for burgers) and a special sauce of the same name. Clearly a popular establishment and no wonder when you get a look at the burger and cocktail options on offer. Due to feeling a bit full from Xmas market food I opted for the skinny version of the basic burger which came nicely medium as that's the way they do all the meat unless otherwise asked, along with a good sized salad and tasty sauce. I had plenty of room for one of their apple mojitos though & another, gin-based, concoction the name of which escapes me. The music wasn't too loud & was generally good & varied (apart from the reggae) whilst the service was efficient. I've had better sweet potato chips & be warned they don't take Mastercard but, given this has been a bit of a burger bar year for me, I'd say they're not really doing anything wrong in the cooked meat between bread stakes. read more

Pretty good burger. Small, small place and it was pretty packed. Nothing bad to say about Brooklyn Burger Bar, but nothing awesome either. When you eat a truly mouth watering burger you remember it. I honestly (its been a bit over 2 weeks since I ate there) cannot remember the individual flavors of the burgers (we ordered 3, all different). I do know the plain old cheeseburger was my favorite, and the BBQ second. Drinks (I had a mint julep) were okay, but needed to be followed up by a trip to a bar. As an American, I firmly believe that burgers and fries should be eaten with your hands, not with a knife and fork. However, as my wife and I sat down here, I looked around and realized that this was definitely a knife-and-fork type of place. I will never understand this. It's just so more complex to eat a burger that way. Anyway, with that out of the way, my wife and I stopped in because Buck's was jam packed, but we wanted some burgers for dinner. The burgers were good, definitely more rare than medium but hey, If you're going to err on one side, at least it's that one. The fries were decent, but the opposite and a little overdone. Service was really good, but it's just not quite enough to bump the whole thing up to four stars. I wouldn't be surprised if as a lunch place it's more four-stars territory in my mind because of general expectations. As a final note, I do feel like they really nailed the Brooklyn atmosphere in that it felt like they were trying really hard to be hip. The most delicious burger in town. Owner lived in Brooklyn and know how to kick it! Cocktails are great too - dark and stormy with ginger beer is an absolute highlight! Foremost, they are a burger bar, but they also have a full bar with some great cocktails. The burger variety is all over the place with some really interesting combos; they have a pulled pork "burger," a chiliburger, the monthly burger recently was something with peanut sauce and mango bits! This is my fault with their burgers: they are too ambitious sometimes and generally fall apart pretty easily. Tasty but messy. The sweet potatoes fries are another stand out item for me, they do them well and they aren't so common in Germany yet. This is usually a lunch time spot for me, but I've stopped off for dinner or drinks in the evening. The service is pretty good overall, they can handle groups of 6-8 people coming in if they aren't already busy. For drinks, they do have Brooklyn Lager imported from Brooklyn but I'd recommend the cocktails over the beer; their cocktails definitely standout more. It definitely gets busy by 5-6PM, but they do have seating outside, so you can wait for a table inside. I'll be coming back soon! read more

Pretty good burgers, in a cool atmosphere - wasn't drinking due to obscene hangover, but the drinks looked good and the services was decent! Definitely one of the better burger joints in Hamburg and a good bar to boot. Was here for a large group dinner from work and even this event was well serviced by staff and the food was incredibly good considering we were 14 people. The burgers are super tasty and I love the "skinny" & monster versions as I don't eat bread but devour meat. The sweet potato fries are awesome too as were the sauces. The drinks selection is extensive and the two or three I tried were all spot on. One gripe is that it does take a while for food to be brought out. Service could be a bit faster but maybe this leads to better quality...don't know. Maybe bother some....not us as we were busy drinkin'. Also, the place is usually packed and quite loud. I like the raucousness of it all but some people may be put off by it. It's definitely a hipster joint and has a bit of that NY vibe that it is trying to accomplish. This trend is getting a bit tired but BBB really still nails it well. We are definitely coming back here for burgers and drinks when in the area. Do remember though to reserve as seating is hard to come by on busy nights like Friday or Saturday. read more
