DO NOT COME HERE IF YOURE IN CRISIS OR ARE SUICIDAL. This facility does not have experienced counselors to provide meaningful therapy to those that are in severe mental and emotional distress. They're not the worst... but FAR from adequately trained enough to understand PTSD or provide you with the tools and skills to manage symptoms. I specifically requested a seasoned therapist trained in PTSD. I was assigned a middle aged woman (Alex) that didn't inform me until MANY sessions later that A) being a therapist was her 2nd career B) she JUST graduated from school. The latter didn't come as a surprise to me. I suspected she was in over her head by her lack of confidence and inability to elaborate on therapeutic concepts and their benefits. When I spoke to the supervisor/director (Stephanie ?) and asked why I was paired with a novice when I specifically requested a senior level therapist, she was evasive, indifferent, communicating in a childish voice and unprofessional tone - merely saying that Alex was the only therapist available and I would have to wait several weeks or months for reassignment. While Alex was a kind and professional therapist, I'm not new to the therapeutic process and I wouldn't recommend this center if you're grappling with severe and debilitating emotional trauma. Additionally, when I requested my therapy notes, I was given gibberish with no specifics, interpretations or meaningful observations about topics discussed in sessions. Their intake process is thorough but also repetitive and redundant - be prepared to received multiple emails and calls and being asked the same questions as the last time. read more

They could not get their act together to get a doctor or a nurse to call me; they could not get their billing straight, which meant calls to my insurance company. The front desk people are the absolute worst, and it's common knowledge, but I gave it a shot anyways. I spent two and a half hours waiting to be seen because they screwed up my appointment time, and it wasn't until the therapist showed up that she told me the real appointment time. I've been going here for years and I have a wonderful therapist who has truly helped and continues to support me. The front desk receptionists are very kind. I'm always nice to them and have always been treated very well by all of them. Most of them even remember me by name. My only concern is the wait for psychiatrist appointments is awful. I love my therapist (who I had been seeing at a different counseling center until she moved to BCP) but this place is awful. The front desk is utterly incompetent; they told me that my insurance was not accepted and so I have been paying out of pocket for SEVEN MONTHS only to find out from my insurance that they ARE in-network. Now BCP owes me over $1000 but seemingly has no mechanism for reimbursing the clients that they fuck over (and no sympathy for my situation, which they somehow believe to be MY fault). Also, the psychiatric nurse practitioner who I saw was totally useless and offensive. I felt like I had walked into an episode of The Handmaid's Tale when I was told that I couldn't receive any prescriptions for psych meds until I brought in a PREGNANCY TEST signed off on by my GP. When I insisted I was not pregnant (but REALLY NEEDED PSYCH MEDS), I was asked a series of inappropriate, irrelevant, and humiliating questions about my "relationships" and sex life. I now see a psychiatrist elsewhere for meds and the only reason I set foot in this horrendous place is because my therapist is so wonderful. Let's start by saying I went here over 5 years ago different management and totally different therapist. So, I began to feel overwhelmed and decided to go back recently, but unfortunately due to covid it's only via telephone or video. I spoke to DR. Harris she seemed concerned "AT FIRST". They set me up with the first therapist it seemed I knew of her as well as my associates and close friends( though there is a confidentiality), she still was not someone I could connect with. Sarah who works there and contacts DR Harris set me up with another therapist, she was late in contacting me but explained there was a phone error. Either way, speaking to the new therapist, it felt as if she was still trying to figure out her job, she was not confident an instead of actually being assertive and reflecting that she's great at her"job" she came off as discombobulated and left a distasteful feeling. I told her I would like to end the call. Now to DR Harris, today 6/2/20 she called and stated "I" wanted another therapist, first off I NEVER called the center to request a new therapist. ( MS. Brookes probably) ONLY the first time. I did take the time to express myself of my feelings, like a first impression is a lasting one. I told DR. Harris I know myself an I wasn't pleased with the therapist. DR Harris seemed appalled and this is still over the phone, her tone and words changed she went from so caring to capricious. She wanted me to continue speaking with the therapist I did not feel comfortable with. ( which is a waste of insurance) but they would get paid an I wouldn't resolve my personal issues. As I explained I know myself! Ex. The same way you interview a person for a job, you don't know them personally but you know from how they articulate themselves that's the person. Credentials are one thing but when it comes to therapy it takes a lot more. One wrong conversation could turn out catastrophic. By the way DR. Harris not because I came back I'm uneducated or totally unaware of the things I need or want! As individuals I believe we all need counseling even you DR. I came because, I once had a GREAT Therapist Johanna Wechsler, after years of contemplation she pushed me to go back to school and finish off obtaining my Registration as a RN, a degree in Liberal Arts an a minor in Psychology, a licensed CASAC ( substance abuse counselor) and now I'm pushing with my Social Work Degree because of my experiences. I know I would benefit others. Dr. Harris instead of assuring me I would be taken cared of, and being appreciated that I choose this center you tried to belittle me and told me go elsewhere. ( why, because i spoke up and told you how I felt and my concerns) You are not someone who takes counseling seriously, more like a money making business " on to the next". Yes this center is busy and when you call them they can be short and often are distracted, BUT it is one of very few therapy centers that offers a reasonable sliding scale, and they employ many psychologists, so you can find one that works with your schedule and needs. My therapist is wonderful, and I've only heard positive things from my other 3 friends who also see different therapists at the center. The location is also very convenient if you live in South Brooklyn. I recommend this place to all of my friends looking for affordable, judgement-free therapy. read more

This place is an absolute mess,I went in for my intake in September but was not called for an appointment until the end of November. The front desk staff are rude and unprofessional. As I walked in for my appointments they would look away and ignore me. My therapist was compassionate in the beginning and I started thinking that I could ignore the front desk, but once I complained to her about the front desk staff she became cold. She would cut me off and become very aggressive in therapy instead of compassionate. That place is very cliquish and I didn't trust that my privacy was protected there. Going there actually increased my anxiety and when I ended my treatment my therapist called multiple times to convince me to come back in, it was like trying to get away from an ex that couldn't accept that it was over. read more

This review is only based on my personal experience with one particular therapist at this place, so I can't speak for the others. I've been going here for almost 2 months for weekly sessions. The therapist I was paired with cancelled twice within the first month. Not only is she unreliable, but she is not very compassionate. The reason I seek therapy is to find someone who will be supportive that I can confide in, try to work on myself so that I can be a better person. However, she is not the one to go to seek assistance for this. She is extremely judgmental, assuming, narrow-minded, overly clinical and just plain rude--she loves to interrupt. She obviously doesn't listen and she's asks me the same question over and over again from week to week. One time, I informed her that I would be missing the next session due a prior appointment, and she can't even get this straight and calls me making all these other assumptions about why I missed the appointment. She is not trustworthy, instead she is patronizing and condescending. I gave it one last chance today, without going into further detail, she cannot be depended on for any kind of meaningful support and I will not be going back. read more

Most of the the patients at the center are madicaid recipients; The therapist don't show no type of compassion they just don't care and most of them are Hispanics..I went there for my enxiety condition, my appointment was at 11:00 am, I wasn't seen until 2:30pm. I agree with the previous writer, L.D. The front desk staff isn't professional or people oriented. If i were suffering from any condition that required an alert individual, to spot danger signs or symptoms, i would be dead depending on the front desk crew. Further, I had to stop going because co pays were becoming too much for me. The therapist was ok, although sometimes i perceived an underlying disgust for my race; I'm african american. She even made a smart remark about my wearing a weave. Yes, i am a cancer survivor and i probably have alopecia as well. I would never go back to that center if my life depended on it. When my lawyer mailed me an impairment questionnaire to be filled out by them, i was told that was impossible since my case was closed. Beware folks!!! read more

This Center is more interested in making money than providing psychotherapy. They tell you at intake that attendance is at a voluntary basis but will quickly, underhandedly call children services if your child misses too many appointments or just does not want to attend. My daughter's therapist, Ms Gopi, was an egotistical maniac who thought it was her place to tell us how to raise our child, although she didn't have any of her own. She must have forgotten the it was my wife and I who initially sought treatment. In any case, she would try to force my wife and I to attend sessions in order to charge our insurance company extra. I highly do not recommend this place. The front desk personnel, on the other hand, were always actually nice. When my daughter informed them that she no longer wanted to attend, they gave us a date that was amicable to both parties. They called children's services anyway.
