I've been taking lessons with Bryan for much of this year, and it has been an absolute joy. I'm an adult and this is my first time with guitar lessons. I've wanted to be able to play songs so when friends come over for dinner, or perhaps while camping, we could do a sing-along. I'm now learning "Zombie" by the Cranberries and "Safe and Sound" (a request from a close friend). Bryan has a calm demeanor and is such a good listener, by which I mean he can read what type of energy or mood I'm in and adapt the lesson accordingly; e.g, each session feels entirely customized, and he adjusts as I learn. We've covered a range of song styles, plus learning tab, ways to read music (I'm a true beginner!), how songs are composed, and techniques like hammer-ons and finger plucking. I'm also learning about keys and how to use a capo. It's fun to have a side quest at my age; i like feeling progression and notice my brain changing. There are ways I can play now that aren't even part of my rational mind, and bringing that musical intuition online feels more human somehow. I'm over the moon happy that I found Bryan. read more

I've been taking lessons with Bryan for a few years now, and I've learned / improved so much more in my time working with him than I did in the ~6 years of self-taught playing before. Bryan takes the time to understand what kind of music his students want to play, and what they want to improve on. We've worked on strumming rhythm, finger-style, scales, improvising, solos, and so much more. Bryan often sprinkles in theory as it pertains to the song we're working on, making sure it stays fun and practical. One of the most valuable things Bryan does is he'll notice little changes I can make like fingering a chord differently, or changing the angle of my hand that suddenly smooths out a piece I've been struggling with. He's helped me learn songs that I never thought I'd be able to play due to them being too complicated / hard by breaking them down into more manageable pieces that slowly build back up to the whole. I've been working with Bryan for 4 years and it's amazing the progress I've made with his help. Maybe a different perspective than typical students but, I've known Bryan for years as a player and friend and my favorite person to talk to guitar with. His technique and ideas on the instrument were so classy and wild, he had my respect before I took a lesson. He led me on a mindfulness via guitar method years ago and it has been essential in my practice since. I want to mention that I hired him once to help me arrange a musical theatre song for guitar. He worked it out and taught it to me in less than an hour, which saved me about 20 hrs of work and a worse result. More recently, I knew I needed interpersonal help with my decades of bad habits and mental blocks, there was only one guy for the job. We've been having a great time figuring out where the gaps are and how to re-program the circuits, and I've been amazed at how he has been able to tailor and explain the exercises for me in a way that takes on my peculiar issues. Teacher, player, writer - Bryan's the total package. He has a way of inspiring my love for playing that goes further and faster than what a book or video can do. Bryan is really a great teacher and friend! First of all he is a great guitarist, he knows what to do on a guitar and more importantly why we need to do those things. After 4 months learning with him, my guitar skills are greatly improved. Before the lessons I couldn't even play scales on the fretboard but now I can play with any tunes I like and even improvise jam in blues and funk. Bryan is such a great guitar teacher. He's extremely kind and patient and enthusiastic about the material - doesn't matter how simple it is! I started taking lessons with him about 6 months ago after having not played guitar for 13 years, and he made me feel like I understood the basics and got me to experiment on my own. Bryan is a perfect fit for me. Just hanging out with him and talking music feels great, natural. He's got a depth of interesting perspective to share. Bryan is a wonderful teacher. My son (8-years) started playing with him during the pandemic via Zoom. He took lessons in person and online before with various teachers. They were not bad, but I knew what a really good guitar lesson should look like when he started with Bryan. Doing Zoom classes with a child is not an easy task but he is able to keep him engaged the entire time. He even likes to practice at home thanks to the recording Bryan sends! He really goes out and about to make sure his students are set up and prepared and I love to eavesdrop when they are "guitar-nerding". Bryan just brings music and creativity out of you. He makes you feel at ease (coming from an insecure student) and works at the pace you want/need. I looked forward to his lessons at the end of a crazy day/week. We could get right into escaping into learning, playing and sometimes just talking about music, if that's what needed to happen. He let me try extremely challenging songs when I was interested and had so much patience with me. Not to mention he is an amazing guitar player, singer and songwriter. Just to hear him play and sing, was so much fun. I took lessons every week with him for 2 yrs (9 months of which I was pregnant!) and he taught me so much about guitar, music history, theory, how to listen and how to feel the music. He really takes the mystery out of playing guitar. 2 kids later and 4 yrs since I have had a lesson, I am anxious to get back at it. Over those years, I have become a friend and fan and now appreciate his talents even more. He is amazing with kids too (and really funny) and can play and teach you anything! From that Zepplin riff you've been dying to learn to a Joni Mitchell finger picking melody. Even songs he doesn't know, he will listen with you and dissect so he can teach you. 4 years ago I had a crush on a girl, so I decided to start learning the guitar. Luckily, Bryan Wade was there. 4 years later we're still at it. First of all, Bryan was great at adapting to my particular learning style. I had some prior musical training in other instruments, which led me to have some strong feelings about how I wanted to proceed. Rather than progressing along a kind of pre-packaged way of learning the guitar, I just wanted to play songs! I had a girl to impress and I was on a schedule. He was supportive, encouraging, very knowledgeable, and used the ideas and techniques in the songs I was learning to illustrate broader points about the instrument, which I could go on to adapt to future songs. Bryan is great! He is warm, encouraging, fun, super smart, and makes your songs sound better when he plays with you.
