Parking situation is a bit difficult leaving you to park on the main road. Gym is small and kinda dark.

I have heard great things from other parents about Great Hearts schools and wanted to find out for…read moremyself. We applied this year and were fortunate to have been drafted through lottery. My daughter loved her old school and was quite disappointed when we told her that she was going to a new school. However, after 4 months, she has acclimated well and have nothing but good things to say about her teachers and classmates. She finds the work challenging and exciting. The school has taught her and our family a new way to approach reading. They teach Latin and have poetry wars. They also have an after school program that is an extension to their education and not just babysitting. The after school teachers help with homework and pick up is until 6 pm. They also have after school clubs with nominal charge. What is most important to my family was the school's faculty and their program for kids with special needs. My son was diagnosed with a rare disorder in October, that affected him neurologically. Some of the staff from school and after school program visited him, including Mr. Brogran (assistant headmaster). We love his teacher Mrs. Laird. She is a smart, kind, and loving teacher. She visited him in the hospital twice. My son had missed 2 1/2 months of school from being sick. Ms. Ernest (teacher), has been so patient in teaching him at home. She has been an important part of his education. We drive to school at least an hour twice a day, sometimes longer. We decided to move closer to the school since our kids loved being there.

The faculty does nothing when something serious happens. My child has come home telling me that many children say the n word and many other offensive things but the staff does NOTHING. She would always come home depressed because she had barely any friends and the children would leave her out. I would never send any of my other children here. They have a long way to go. They a very small variety of classes and everyone does the same courses. I want to give them zero starts but that's not possible so l'll give them a 1. New! More ways to react to reviews.

What could improve is the food as stated by another parent. If my child eats here their stomach…read moregets ruined and they get in trouble the rest of the day for being in the bathroom. Another thing is no response when it comes to issues going on within the school. I've accepted this and although my child has been here 2 years they will no longer be attending IDEA. My child has gotten worse academically since starting here. Also, it's pretty much impossible to get your child on any sport team unless your child has been going to the school for years and years. My child was like a pariah here and wasn't wanted in any sports or afterschool activities. They would tell my child that I'd have to go and apply for the clubs then when I would go they would tell me the child would have to go which made me believe that they just did not want them in there. Think long and hard before bringing your child to this school. Also, if your child isn't perfect As and no issues don't even bother with this school. I don't know what would help to improve because this school needs so much help. Good luck to anybody who chooses this school to send their child to!

They lie on grades and pass kids just to pass them so the school can still get funded for kids passing. Teachers are always needed due to teachers leaving they are under staff. I took a class through the North East Independent School District Continuing Education Program…read more They offer a wide variety of classes on a quarterly basis. They publish a catalog that they'll mail out to you if you ask, or you can stay updated on their website. The course descriptions seem to be accurate, and the class fees include the materials like textbooks. The classes range from language classes, to accounting, to painting, knitting- they offer a wide variety of fun, practical classes. Each teacher I've had so far has been knowledgeable, qualified, clear spoken with a lesson plan and handouts. The classes are held at various locations around town, from high schools to community centers. The signage is generally good. Taking classes here is too cool for school!

I've lived in NEISD for 10 years and Have had 4 kids together go through all 12 grade levels K-12…read more All of my kids had special needs and 3 of them were gifted as well. My kids did not receive the accommodations specified in their 504 regularly, and I didn't receive timely 504 updates. My gifted kids were in GT in SAISD and in Northside ISD, but NEISD decided they could not be in the program because of one test administered on 1 day at the school headquarters. Another failure of NEISD is their lack of care for the less fortunate students and families. There is no affordable after school care or summer programs available. The schools on the wealthier neighborhoods (Stone Oak, etc) have nice new facilities and athletic fields, and the schools that are in less desirable neighborhoods have run down buildings and athletic fields. It's no wonder so many charter schools are becoming popular. It's really disgusting and the district should be ashamed to call themselves public education. It's all about money and politics, apparently.
