Yesterday, I spent approximately an hour on the phone with Alyssa discussing their event. I was told the date we selected was available and would be held for two weeks while we finalized the details and submitted the deposit. I was instructed to come in today to meet with Mike, discuss the event details, and move forward with the arrangements. I arrived today with the deposit in hand, prepared to sign the paperwork and move forward. A friend even left work early to accompany me. Instead, I was told the date was no longer available because a corporate client had paid and signed a contract. I understand that a signed contract takes priority. **That is not the issue. The issue is that I was told yesterday that this date was available to my daughter, and less than 24 hours later, it was taken away without anyone contacting me.** If there was another contract pending or a possibility that the date could be lost, I should have been told. A simple phone call this morning could have saved my time, my friend's time, and prevented this entire situation. What made matters worse was how the situation was handled. Rather than taking accountability for the conflicting information I had been given, I felt dismissed, talked down to, and spoken to in an unnecessarily loud and confrontational manner. I was reminded that because I had not yet signed a contract or paid the deposit, technically the date was not mine. **Ironically, I had the deposit with me and was there specifically to pay and sign.** I was not asking for special treatment because my daughter and her husband serve in the military. But military families have schedules, commitments, and circumstances that do not always allow us to simply rearrange everything at the last minute. **You should not tell a customer that a date is available, have them make plans around that information, and then take that date away less than 24 hours later without even the courtesy of a phone call.** Customers deserve honesty, communication, accountability, and respect--regardless of whether they are a corporate client or an individual family planning an important milestone. The most upsetting part is that my daughter trusted me to handle this for her while she and her husband are away serving. I told her I was going to take care of everything, and instead I had to call her and explain that the date we had been discussing the day before was suddenly gone. **I feel that both my daughter and I were misled, our time was wasted, and we were ultimately left embarrassed and disappointed.** Businesses have every right to prioritize signed contracts. What they do not have to do is treat potential customers as though their time and plans don't matter. Unfortunately, after this experience with Alyssa, Mike, and the owner, I would not recommend this venue to another family planning an important event. **My daughter deserved better. From our very first contact, Elizabeth's hospitality, professionalism, and clear communication stood out. She was attentive, responsive, and incredibly supportive throughout the entire planning process. She even went above and beyond by creating a beautiful family crest for us and arranging to have it displayed on the marquee--a special touch that meant so much to us. On the day of the event, she worked tirelessly to make sure every detail was taken care of. And if you do read such reviews, you'll see that the hotels are often well-maintained and are in a way, time capsules. The Riverview Inn is like that. It's like a well-maintained 1990s-era Hilton, kept in a little capsule for you to experience. I stayed a night here as a good overnight stop between two destinations and I chose the Riverview Inn for its price and its downtown location. It was fine, but that's about it. Parking is free, which is nice, and the lobby is a little updated. Then you exit the elevator into the hallway of your designated floor, and everything changes. Green floral carpet, very low ceilings, dim fluorescent lighting -- ah, I remember this, and, frankly, it's a little bit eerie. But little things let you know that, even though the rooms are holding fast on that 1990s design, there is some effort to modernize. For example, proximity RFID room keys. If this really was a 1990s hotel, you'd have those old hole-punch room keys. Remember those? Yeah. Awesome. Also, a flat-screen TV. Cool. And maybe there's something to be said for making those changes, rather than putting a new comforter on the bed that has an updated, more understated floral design. Everything works. Essentials are met. Maslow is satisfied. Breakfast is also fine. Ever stayed at a Holiday Inn Express? It's a lesser version of that. Pre-made, pre-formed pastries and eggs. It's fine. You won't go back for seconds unless you hate yourself, but it's basic breakfast at its minimally acceptable range. Eat and hit the road, it says. Considering the above (and managing expectations), I'd stay here again. I was able to walk to two different local breweries (a third closed before I could make it there on a Tuesday night) and stumble home safe and sound. Sleep, check-out, and get out, with a good location. Works for me!

The chapel is the quintessential "country chapel" and I promise you will not be disappointed if you plan to have your wedding here. I have attended a wedding here in the spring when the corn field across the street is bright green and swaying in the wind, absolutely gorgeous. But I just had my wedding here last week surrounded by the autumn foliage and it was a breathtaking backdrop for such a quaint chapel. The lighting inside is perfect, there are large windows which overlook the country and allows beautiful golden light to shine through. My photographer didn't even need to use a flash on his camera, the lighting was perfect! The business owner, Carolyn, is the sweetest and takes care of all of the reception catering, she also makes the wedding cakes! She made my cake exactly how I wanted, I am so please with how my wedding turned out. Also, the prices for the rental of the chapel, as well as catering, are so reasonable. It made it possible for two college students to have a lovely wedding without going into debt! Imagine that... If you are looking for a beautiful stress-free wedding, then I highly recommend A Country Chapel.
