We have been with Browne since JK, now in 5th grade and love every ounce of the school! It is the most loving and educationally enriching environment! My daughter continues to come home every day filled with excitement to go back to school so I couldn't be happier! read more

I have 2 kids enrolled here and they have been doing well. Pre K program is excellent with Ms . Janet . She has been there for over 25 years . My son has been there since 1st grade he is now in 5th grade . We love the the diversity,the curriculum, the teachers are wonderful and compassionate. Excellent school ! read more

Sadly I have to rate this otherwise great academy poorly because of their summer program with Pottery Playground. I signed my daughter up over the summer and NEVER received the project she made. I was told repeatedly by the very rude woman running the program that I would receive it soon, but alas we never did. She had her daughter act as an assistant but all she did was braid my daughters hair too tightly and make inappropriate jokes my daughter would repeat later on DO NOT WASTE TIME ON THIS PROGRAM. What should have been a fun memory still has me shaking with rage and has added quite a bit of colorful language to my daughters vocabulary. Because her company has no official review page I unfortunately have to leave this here, if Browne has any sense they'll find a better program to host this summer. read more

Some great people there but you're essentially paying to lease a Ferrari and getting a well-furnished Camry. Staff failed to know anything about my son's potentially life-saving asthma medication on more than one occasion and the new head of the Lower School recommended he undergo speech therapy despite him being professionally assessed as age-appropriate in that regard. This is a group that wants only a ready-made kid and seems incapable of developing one, at least at the lower grades. Not bad but you can do way better in Northern Virginia for the money. This school is on the way down. The Headmaster had to cover a first grade class this year because the teacher there resigned midway through the year. Can't blame that teacher at all. read more

If there was an option to give negative stars, I would for my review of Browne Academy. I was a student at Browne for 11 years, and I graduated with the class of 2017. I hope this review will open the eyes of parents who are considering sending their children to this joke of a school. If I had gone to public school throughout my elementary and middle school years, I believe I would be in a much better place, both academically and mentally. To start off, the education itself is extremely flawed. Most, not all, teachers at Browne failed to teach me fundamental things I needed for high school, and I found myself behind at my new school (Tc Williams). Browne did not prepare me at all, and I struggled with my academics, especially math. Browne teaches math 2 grade levels lower than ACPS, and I found myself struggling to keep up with math. If Browne taught math at a sufficient level, I would be way more prepared for high school. The second and I believe the most important topic of this review is the social politics that go on within the school. A lot of the school's income is from parents donating money to the annual fund, the auction, or many other pricey school events. Most people who rely on financial aid tend to donate less, and they are treated differently than the kids who have parents that donate copious amounts of money for no reason. It's well known that kids who have wealthier parents are treated much better than the rest of the students. The system is flawed and extremely unfair. In addition to some kids being treated differently from teachers, the school has a nasty bullying problem, and the faculty fails to do anything about it. From 4th grade to 8th grade I was bullied about my weight, appearance and intelligence. The lack of help from teachers lead to self hatred, and eventually an eating disorder in the beginning of 7th grade, which I struggled with until halfway through 8th grade. Many teachers told me to keep my mouth shut when I reported bullying, which is not the proper way to handle harassment. I remember some occasions when a specific teacher made a comment about my weight. Leaving kids to cope with bullying on their own can hurt the child or young teen, as it did to me. My experiences with bullying has really taken a toll on my mental heath, and it's honestly something I'll have to live with for the rest of my life. I am not the only one to experience bullying at Browne, and many of my friends can speak for themselves about similar experiences to mine. Going into high school, I did not have the right mindset, and I turned to some unhealthy habits to cope with my depression and anxiety, which are mainly a result from bullying at Browne. The lack of support to kids who don't donate money is shocking, and kids with wealthy parents can literally get away with anything. On a darker level, I mean kids can get away with anything, including sexual assault. I was sexually assaulted by another student during my time at Browne, and the school failed to do even the slightest thing about it, and made their best efforts to defend the perpetrator. This experience has been extremely difficult for me to speak out about, and it's taken me nearly a year and a half to do. Sexual assault should not be taken lightly, and it should be reported immediately. However, Browne made it their goal for me to keep my mouth shut, so I didn't damage their school image. The so called "Guidance Counselor" told me my experience was "not a big deal" and that the person was "experimenting" despite the fact that I told them what they were doing is not okay. In addition to telling me it wasn't a big deal, she tried to make me talk with the person who assaulted me. I am not the only person to be assaulted by this individual, and the school knew of their assaults and did nothing about it. Legally, guidance counselors are supposed to report issues like sexual assault and abuse, and she failed to do so while telling me and the other girl to keep our mouths shut. I truly believe that the way the school handled It was disgusting, and put even more weight on my shoulders, when the situation was stressful by itself. After my time at Browne, my family and I decided that I should go through trauma therapy for the assault, after I harmed myself severely due to a situation that triggered a flashback. Overall, Browne Academy is a sad excuse for a school, and it is truly disgusting how they run it. It is the most toxic environment for a child to grow up with, and you either come out of it a bully or a victim and no in-between. If you want your child to grow up having a normal healthy childhood, I highly suggest that you DONT GO TO THIS SCHOOL. This school took my son from being a struggling 6th grader in public school system to a top performer in the classroom and on standardized tests. He actually LOVES to go to school now. It's a friendly, upbeat and accepting learning environment. read more

We just finished our first year and had a fantastic experience. Both of our sons grew academically and matured. Our fifth grader developed executive functioning skills (fifth graders change classes for each subject), and we loved the small class size (9 students per class). We were especially impressed by the science and history teachers; both classes quickly became our son's favorite subjects, and he pushed himself to learn to write better and better essays on tests. We loved the enrichment classes- photography and string ensemble and the sports program for fifth and sixth graders. The music program at Browne is especially strong. Our younger son developed more confidence and a real love and curiosity for learning. The smaller classroom environment allowed for the flexibility to study current events as they happened and he really responded to this flexibility in learning. We found the teachers and staff caring and the school community kind and inclusive. read more
