I am only putting up one star because it is required. Less than zero should be my heading. What a sham. I knew and trusted Melvin because he had done for me the occasional door. I had him come look at two broken things in my place, he talked me into doing my woodwork and floors. He did okay on the trim, got all the money up front for the job and never fixed the broken parts. Then it went south quickly. He brought in a drum sander. There are divets in every square foot of my floors and he called it character!!! I took over and brought in a square buff to fix his mistakes, it's better but still not smooth. Being in a time crunch I offered to help his workers finish the floors, two of them showed for a couple hours here and there but with no supplies--you're going to send a guy over to sand with a half sheet of sandpaper?? Really? This man is a hustler. Do not give him your money. I am embarrassed, and may never trust anyone again. I may even file a lawsuit, just so he knows the damage that's been done. A maple rocking chair that had been my grandmother's became the target of an anxious dog that chewed up the entire top of the back of the chair. In addition, some of the wood in the back slats split. I really didn't think it could be repaired, but took it to Melvin with hope that something might salvage the rocker. They did a truly remarkable job! Looking at the chair, you can barely tell there was any damage, let alone the extensive damage. Since then I've taken a number of pieces to be repaired, and he has always done quality work. I found Browsers Welcome from Angie's list. The deal was to pay $99 for $200 dollars worth of refinishing work. He refinished my mother's dining room table and buffet. It was a little rough, oily, but beautiful. So when he said he could also have a bench I had upholstered. I paid $343 as a deposit. It was downhill from that point on. He never took my bench to the upholster he subcontracted (she called me and said he never paid her to order the fabric I picked out or delivered my bench - he told me he had). Now he will no longer answer by calls - so I have NO BENCH OR REFUNDED MONEY. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS MAN!! I will be contacting the BBB and my lawyer. read more

Like others I wish I didn't have to give him a star. I contracted with Melvin to do $2500 worth of stripping/refinishing baseboards and refinishing hardwood floors at the recommendation of some friends he worked for many years ago. He continually asked me for money for materials even after paying him for the entire job up front! He only had one guy who had performed the actual tasks before. The rest of those who showed up (when they did occasionally show up) only worked 3-4 hours at a time and were basically street people who he said he was 'training'. A job that he quoted as taking 4 days took over a month and he then walked off the job without completing it. The work was not the best. And, I did not have access to my living room, dining room or kitchen for a month! He still owes me $1000 for work he did not do. I offered to let him repay me at $150/month over 5 months and he declined. A total scheister who I will now be taking to court. The funny part is that he considers himself a good Christian as he is robbing you blind! Beware! read more

My mother in law found him on Angie's list to get both of our chairs refinished. I sure wish I would have went behind her to do research on him, because he is a scammer!! I paid Melvin Satterfiled the owner of Browser's Welcome $393 on May 4, 2016 to install a leather top on a wood desk. Melvin returned my desk on October 8, 2016 without installing the leather top as he did not have the expertise to complete the job. Melvin has refused to refund the $393 I paid him after keeping my desk for over 5 months and not doing the job. read more

Horrible the guy made promises that he did not fulfill. He picked up our antique furniture after doing a couple pieces for us and promised the work would be done by the end of January . A month goes by with phone calls lots of stories and no go. In early March I told him I wanted our furniture back no matter what condition they were in and that we would retrieve it on March 17th period he did not return our phone . We have have sent certified letters to both the business owner and the property owner. It was posted on Angie's List that he told another customer he was closing his business in early April due to health reasons . One week later my husband stop by and found the shop empty and unlocked during store hours. Mr. Satterfield did pick up my husband's call after ignoring mine for two months and promised that he would have the shop locked up and that my husband could come back in 2 days after calling him and he would arrange for someone to be at the shop so that we could get our furniture back. Numerous phone calls on that day and we went to town and the shop was locked and we have not heard back. read more

Melvin Satterfield gave me an estimate on re-finishing a table last spring. He was here during our kitchen remodel and stated that he also refinished hardwood floors and would like a chance to give us an estimate. We decided not to refinish the table we had gotten an estimate for, but we did contact him again about the floor refinishing. Melvin gave us a quote of $1275 to re-finish the floors, including adding flooring where we had changed the cabinet layout. After multiple attempts on Melvin's part to complete the job, he was unable to do so because he a) didn't have the right equipment and b) did not have experience with our particular type of floor (which he never mentioned until he had already made a mess of things). We had already paid him $1000 and then had to pay another floor company to come in and do the job properly. The only thing that had initially appeared to have been done correctly, were the new boards. However, come to find out a few months later, even that was not done correctly and now the boards are shrinking, leaving big gaps in the floor. I have had other flooring companies here to evaluate the problem and they say it is because the wood was not acclimated first, which the installer should have known to do. Before the gaps became apparent, I had discussed a partial refund with Melvin to make up for paying the other floor company to finish his job. We eventually agreed that instead, he would re-finish my dining table and chairs and apply the $ paid to him for the floor toward the dining set, and I would owe another $500 on top of that. I received my dining set back in December and it looks awful. Uneven finish, rough to the touch, I could go on and on. Looks worse than before the refinish began. I have pictures of all the flooring and the dining set that I am happy to share if it will help someone else to avoid what I've experienced. We tried to resolve this with Melvin on our own, which he agreed to do, and has now refused to follow through with. We are in the process of working with the BBB and filing a suit in small claims court. I am 45 years old and I have never once, taken the time to write a complaint about any business. Don't be fooled by his website. The owner picked up my furniture in June of 2011, with a promise finished/delivery date of August 10, 2011. I called him (note, he didn't call me) starting in September, then October, then November, December, January, February, March . He will say he is coming by "next week" to deliver the furniture and then never shows up. I finally got SOME of my refinished furniture delivered to me in April, 2012. Since I paid him half down in June of 2011, he "won't charge me the balance". When he called me to tell me when he was to deliver my furniture, and being the Christian person he claims on his web-site, I was absolutely shocked to hear his language talking about ME on his cell phone when he thought he had put me on hold - hey buddy, if you're going to call me those kind of names, at least have the decency to not speak into the phone when I'm on the other end. Here it is July 2012, and I'm still waiting for the rest of the furniture and have reported him to the BBB. Save yourself money and aggravation and do it yourself or find someone else. read more

If there was a 0 star this is what I would give this loser. He took delivery of 10 antique furniture pieces on July 1, 2011. Yes, that is last year. He promised me that they would all be done in 1 month. I called in August, and was promised delivery. Nothing. Again promised delivery in March. Nothing. He is a fast talker and a con man. Do not use this service. He never answers his phone nor returns calls. His work is sub par. He left me a message for delivery and forgot to hang up his phone and then said some unpleasant cuss words about me. He is not the Christian man he portrays to be. I picked this place because it was in the neighborhood I grew up in, but I made a poor choice. My recommendation to you is to turn and run as fast as you can. This frustration from the last 12 months is not it. I finally received part of my order on May 10, 2012 after numerous promised dates for delivery. More promises were made for delivery on May 26th, still nothing. No return phone calls. He also said he would not charge me any more for the rest of the pieces.
