    This is Chinatown

If you're a Bruce Lee fan I recommend you go and see the statue. Located in Chinatown near front entrance on Broadway. Chinatown looks ok but a bit rundown. It had been 30 years since I last visited Chinatown.

I'm usually here at the Chinatown Central Plaza once a year for the LA Chinatown Firecracker 10k race. I'll make a quick stop for a selfie with the legend before I go get ready for the race. The statue is sort of fenced off to keep people from climbing on it.

If you're a fan of Bruce Lee (or martial arts, in general) then this spot is a must-see whenever you're in Los Angeles' Chinatown. I'm not a fan of either, BUT! It's still pretty cool having to see this with my own eyes! Big Bro and I had an important errand to run in DTLA, but that plan kinda went down the pooper (I won't bother explaining) so he suggested, since we're nearby, "might as well do a little walk around and grub in Chinatown." Parked a couple of blocks away and before we know it, we were at the plaza. As often as I've been through this area, I have never seen this tourist spot. (I don't even know how I missed it all those times!) It's almost embarrassing that out-of-towner Big Bro had to show me where it was. (Insert chuckle here.) But yeah, like I mentioned earlier, finally seeing it is pretty cool. I felt like a tourist for a second there... I will be housing a few out-of-towners in the near future. This is definitely a must-see for them, so yeah... I'll be seeing it again pretty soon!

Larger-than-life Bruce Lee We came to Chinatown because we wanted to see the statue of this martial arts legend. Bruce Lee's statue is a popular photo op for fans who remember him. We walked inside the historical Central Plaza in the New Chinatown... not immediately visible as we entered but we found it quickly (LA Chinatown isn't very big compared to SF's). It stands in an intersection of two pedestrian walkways surrounded by a metal fence in the back nearby a small parking area. There is a plaque on the pedestal that relays the story behind the project. The statue was donated by the Bruce Lee Foundation. To me, it would make sense for San Francisco Chinatown to also have a statue of Bruce Lee since he was born there as well as opened two martial arts studios (in Oakland). Bruce was born at a Chinese hospital on 845 Jackson Street. He lived in several places in San Francisco including 18 Trenton Street, 654 Jackson Street, and 772 Jackson Street. He also gave martial arts demonstration at the Sun Sing Center on 1021 Grant Avenue. But I guess that's nothing compared to when he made it big in L.A. when he landed the role of "Kato" on The Green Hornet. I remember my dad diligently watching this show on TV every week. Then Bruce's success brought him to the big screen with movies like "The Big Boss," "Fist of Fury," "Game of Death," and "Enter The Dragon." Actually, that Dragon movie was inspired by a real fight between Bruce and Wong Jack Man... it became controversial and famous. Anyway, Bruce Lee remains the greatest icon of martial arts... check it out, worth a detour! Review #2486

Newish addition to LA-s Chinatown! I go to Chinatown a few times a year and it was great to see Bruce Lee's statue in the main plaza a few years ago, circa 2019! We all know Bruce Lee's work, I grew up watching his movies, so I welcomed a nice homage dedicated to him in Chinatown. The statue isn't located right in the middle of the main plaza, but near by, just walk to the left and you will see it. There are cool lampions around and the statue fits the area so well since it served as a background to many movies over the years!

I got to see the Bruce Lee statue. We are going through Chinatown. I was attempting to shadow box next to him and I thought he came to life to karate kick me in the head but he didn't. It was all of my imagination so at least I had to fight Bruce Lee statue. I was there but it's cool check out.

Bruce Lee in Los Angeles Chinatown... wow! This seven feet tall landmark is located in Chinatown Central Plaza. It's made of bronze and weighs about 1595 pounds. It was unveiled in June 2013 in Los Angeles even though Bruce Lee was born in San Francisco. Why? Probably because Bruce Lee opened his martial arts studio in LA. This is a cool tribute to the late and great Bruce Lee! It took his daughter, Shannon, about five years to transport the statue over from China! Come and see it!

What a treat if your in Chinatown. Great for photo ops. Bruce Lee an icon. I'm glad I was finally able to make it here. Check it out.

Located inside the central plaza in Chinatown DTLA. I've had this bookmarked for sometime so I finally came to see it since I'm a Bruce Lee fan. Very nice statue and position. If you are ever in Chinatown DTLA I recommend seeing the statue.

I definitely would recommend coming here to snap some cool photos! Their are some great shops to buy souvenirs from and then up the walkways you will see an area where Rush Hour" was shot. It's cool to look at the different items in the stores. So many choices! I will say, prepare to check your luggage w/nunchuck purchases. Even though they were small souvenirs that were $5/each, I had to pay $30 to check my luggage when I went home because of those bad boys.

By…read more"beautiful," I don't mean pretty; it's not a pretty bridge by any stretch of the imagination, but it serves its purpose in a no-frills way, and it reminds me of the Downtown L.A. I grew up with, a sometimes scary but always fascinating place dominated by imposing physical structures of steel and concrete. The East L.A. Interchange and everything around it seemed intent on delivering millions of cars into and out of Downtown as brutally efficiently as possible, with no regard for the local neighborhoods (or the people who lived in them), the physical environment, or even the L.A. River itself. Unlike its flashy new neighbor the 6th Street Bridge and its closer and more crowded neighbor the 4th Street Bridge, the 1st Street Bridge always felt like the little-used last chance to cross the river before the busier (and confusing) Cesar Chavez Avenue (formerly Macy Street) Viaduct, not to mention Main Street much farther north. The construction of Metro's Gold Line (now the E Line) saved the bridge, in a way. Before the train tracks were laid across the span, there were five total lanes, with the center lane being one of those confusing ones that changes directions at certain times. Caltrans or L.A. Public Works or whoever couldn't seem to decide how wide to make the lanes, so they kept changing the sizes, possibly because the bridge originally had shoulders or three lanes in each direction? Now, there's one lane of motor-vehicle traffic heading westbound and two heading eastbound. All lanes are now permanent. There is a fairly well protected bike lane on the north side of the bridge, and the train tracks run in the middle. It's probably slower now, but because everyone knows it has three lanes total, fewer people probably use it. Or maybe GPS navigation has completely ruined the idea of people driving and not driving places because of their personal knowledge of situations there. In any case, driving westbound gives you the perfect view of Downtown L.A. My dad's side of the family has deep routes in Boyle Heights, so I'm a sucker for this kind of stuff, as ugly as it probably is to most non-Angelenos.
