As a tourist this is a fun area to visit. The best place to take photos of the sign is 3160 Canyon Lake Drive, or Lake Hollywood Park. This is an area where you can stop, get out of the car, and take photos. There are beware of Rattle Snake signs so be prepared when you go.

When you think of LA I think everyone immediately thinks Hollywood and they also picture the iconic sign and when you are here and see it I'm sure part of you goes I wonder if you can up to it and the answer is yes ... yes you can go up to it There's are a few ways up and I think the both are about the same amount of time which is like a 45 min hike up I went up via the Bronson canyon park route and you will encounter at some point horse poop because there is a horse ranch that offers rides but it's only a short part of the trail and you will constantly think you are there but you won't be lol but it's worth it and you can't touch the sign but you can get close and even go above by the antenna to take a shot

H O L L Y W O O D! Start early before the sun gets too hot. We parked on the side of the street at innsdale drive and it took about an hour to reach the sign. You'll see goats roaming and beautiful houses along the way. The hike is steep, so wear good sneakers. The top is exhilarating, with breathtaking views even with the smog.

We made the mistake of coming here at night, thinking it was lit up. After an hour of walking around, we asked a worker at the observatory where the sign was. He pointed it out to us and let us know how the lights are only for the movies...booooooo Feeling defeated, we came back during the daytime to finally see it. We first saw it from a random neighborhood then drove up near the famous park to see it. Parking is limited so if you're lucky you'll find something. It is lovely during the day and worth it to see at least once.

I Love Hollywood! This iconic sign is a huge part of history, Los Angeles and daily pictures, hiking, and more. This 102 year old sign has gone through many changes including once being named Hollywoodland in the roaring 20s and 30s before being rebranded as simply Hollywood in the late 40s. It has many access points being part of the epic Griffith Park and many viewpoints throughout the city as well as views of the city. Featured in more television, film, media and images than even some Hollywood royalty. This steel beast sites at 45-foot-tall and can be reached for closer views by Beachwood Drive, Brush Canyon Trail, Cahuenga Peak Trail, Mt. Hollywood Trail, Griffith Observatory, Barnsdall Park, Lake Hollywood Park, many city rooftops or higher floor buildings without any obstructions, on Mulholland Drive, those awesome Aerial Tours and even Sunset Ranch horseback tours. The sign itself has a security system is prohibited from crossing a certain point to prevent tampering as it has been tampered with quite a bit in over the century it's been thriving in L.A. Definitely a good hike, but if you're more of leisure tourist or local, you definitely have plenty of options to enjoy this original star, not on the Walk of Fame, but just as famous as anyone past, present or future.

Great to visit, it's a must see if you are in Los Angeles. Is there anything more iconic?? Best views are from the observatory, which requires heading up the hill and to the public parking lot. It's orderly, not a chaotic free for all. Easy to take pics and take in the scenery!

If you're like me, want to see the Hollywood sign and don't want to hike to it, follow the directions below. Lol! Make sure to plan your visit and make sure it's a clear day without fog. Cooler weather helps too because the sun could be flaming. The closest legal access viewpoint is at the Deronda Gate Hollywood Sign Viewpoint Use this address for GPS: 6101 Mulholland Hwy, Los Angeles, CA 90068 For a closer view of the Hollywood Sign with minimal walking, the closest legal access point by car is via Mulholland Highway near Deronda Drive. This takes you to a gated viewpoint right below the sign with only a very short walk.

The Hollywood sign is a cultural icon in Hollywood, Los Angeles that represents the U.S. film industry and all the people associated with it. You can see this sign from many places around the L.A. area. Some of my favorite places are from the Hollywood Bowl, Griffith Observatory, Hollywood Forever Cemetery and the Hollywood Sign Viewing Bridge on Hollywood Blvd. For over a century, this sign has been seen in several movies and television shows. It has also been vandalized on many occasions. The funniest one that I can remember was when someone changed it to read "HOLLYWeeD" back in 2017. The Hollywood Sign is an American landmark that overlooks Hollywood. It was erected on Mount Lee in Griffith Park over a hundred years ago. It used to read "Hollywoodland" before they removed the Land part of the sign. Over time, the original wooden sign deteriorated and it was eventually replaced with a permanent steel sign. The Hollywood Sign was once open to vehicle traffic in the old days before it drew complaints from local residents. Today these old roads are only open to hiking and horseback riding. I finally checked off hiking to the Hollywood Sign not long ago. There are a few trails that lead to the Hollywood Sign. I ended up taking the Brush Canyon Trail route and found it to be a nice easy day hike. I really enjoyed the views of Burbank and Hollywood once I got to the top of Mount Lee. You can see Warner Bros. Studio and Forest Lawn cemetery to the north and Downtown L.A. and Hollywood to the south.

The view from behind shows the metal Letters, trusses, ladders and cameras mounted to each letter.

We walked about 4.3 miles from our Airbnb in Whitley Heights up to the view area. It's an annual tradition which some years involves the much longer route up and down to the backside of the sign. Walking thru the neighborhoods below the sign on a holiday weekend is an exercise in chaos but it's all part of the Hollywood sign magic. This year was no different. It's fun. Plan ahead. Walk don't drive and you will have a good time seeing the local architecture and getting some steps.

I'm not particularly interested in hiking up to the Hollywood sign but I have on a couple of occasions. This particular day I had the opportunity to ride up to the sign and take some friends from out of town to view the sign from the front and above the rear part of the sign without having to hike it. Since everyone who wants to see the sign must hike up to it I'd suggest you bring plenty of water and dress comfortably and wear some good walking shoes. Bring a wind breaker with you because occasionally it gets windy up there.

A hike to this LA landmark is a must for every able bodied Angeleno. Though there are many routes, I prefer the 2 mile trail from the parking lot at the end of Canyon Drive. Incredible views of the city from high above and from different angles. An absolute must, at least once! For the more adventurous, go above the sign (another 0.7 mile climb), to the top of Mt. Lowe.

Today was my first time hiking Hollywood sign via canyon rd. There's a small parking lot close to the entrance and there's also a bigger dirt lot a little further down the street. We started our hike at 545 to about the crowd. I did a 11 mile hike yesterday so today my calves were feeling the burn going uphill. If you start your hike before sunrise I recommend a good headlamp because it is pitch black on the trail. Also be aware of your surroundings, we had a coyote follow us a little bit and it didn't seem to be scared of us. Once we got up to the top it was about 3 miles. Because we went on a cold early morning we weren't able to get a view of the HOLLYWOOD sign due to all the fog. On the hike you get a view of the Griffith observatory and there's several spots to take some good pictures. Total out and back was 6 miles and it took us about 2 hours. We will have to come back another day to get our Hollywood sign picture. This hike I would say is moderate to hard depending on experience. Also there's trash cans all along the trail, please pick up after yourself!

Hi everyone , I am new to LA and my gf birthday is cmg so I want to go with her at late night at 1 at Griffith observatory will it be open just to see the view?

Griffith Park is closed at 1am so you cannot get to the Observatory. Also the sign is not lit at noghr so you can’t see it anyway.

Do you have to pay to see the Hollywood sign?

no. it is free to see

Hello. Is there a parking garage? How much? Thanks

No there is no parking garage. In order to get to the Hollywood sign, you must hike. There are several various options to get there and there is street parking and parking lots within Griffith Park.…

I want to be able to get to the hollywood sign, like up and close, right behind the sign. I know a few months ago, they closed the Sunset Ranch Entrance. So where is the other entrance to get to that same trail?

Park on Canyon Lake Drive across from Lake Hollywood Park. There's the Innsdale Trail Head which connects to W Mulholland Hwy. Follow the road and it later connects to Mt. Lee Drive.

By…read more"beautiful," I don't mean pretty; it's not a pretty bridge by any stretch of the imagination, but it serves its purpose in a no-frills way, and it reminds me of the Downtown L.A. I grew up with, a sometimes scary but always fascinating place dominated by imposing physical structures of steel and concrete. The East L.A. Interchange and everything around it seemed intent on delivering millions of cars into and out of Downtown as brutally efficiently as possible, with no regard for the local neighborhoods (or the people who lived in them), the physical environment, or even the L.A. River itself. Unlike its flashy new neighbor the 6th Street Bridge and its closer and more crowded neighbor the 4th Street Bridge, the 1st Street Bridge always felt like the little-used last chance to cross the river before the busier (and confusing) Cesar Chavez Avenue (formerly Macy Street) Viaduct, not to mention Main Street much farther north. The construction of Metro's Gold Line (now the E Line) saved the bridge, in a way. Before the train tracks were laid across the span, there were five total lanes, with the center lane being one of those confusing ones that changes directions at certain times. Caltrans or L.A. Public Works or whoever couldn't seem to decide how wide to make the lanes, so they kept changing the sizes, possibly because the bridge originally had shoulders or three lanes in each direction? Now, there's one lane of motor-vehicle traffic heading westbound and two heading eastbound. All lanes are now permanent. There is a fairly well protected bike lane on the north side of the bridge, and the train tracks run in the middle. It's probably slower now, but because everyone knows it has three lanes total, fewer people probably use it. Or maybe GPS navigation has completely ruined the idea of people driving and not driving places because of their personal knowledge of situations there. In any case, driving westbound gives you the perfect view of Downtown L.A. My dad's side of the family has deep routes in Boyle Heights, so I'm a sucker for this kind of stuff, as ugly as it probably is to most non-Angelenos.
