I'm an older patient. I was asking my dentist about a full set of veneers. He recommended I try orthodontics first. I visited to a couple orthodontics for their assessment and chose Dr. Bruner. Here's what I liked: * He said my treatment would take about a year. It did. * Very nice and happy staff. It's so pleasant to work with a team that are happy to see you and you can tell they enjoy their work. * Beautiful office space. Everything is new, clean and a pleasure to visit. Plus, plenty of parking. * Dr. Bruner was great. Reflecting on my treatment, I can tell that orthodontics is part science and part art. You have to trust the Dr. has the experience and technique to bend the wires in the proper way to get the desired results. Dr. Bruner and his team have the skills! * One of my pet peeves is to sit a long time in a waiting room. Especially when I'm on time for my appointment. I have taken both my kids here. One kid started just before freshman year. His school schedule was demanding and Bruner Ortho hours were not forgiving in their hours of operation. Which made them miss school to make regular ortho appointments. Now my second kid is going through their second round of treatment with them. I am not looking forward to fighting about them not missing school for the many orthopedic checkups. I just came into the office to give them money. I asked a question and the two front ladies just looked at each like I was stupid. I should have said something to their faces about how unprofessional that was. This office accepts everyone that walking in their doos and I do not feel like the care is as attentive as it could be. I get a lot of attitude when I bring my concerns up to them. I went to see Janaki Narayanan at Great Smile dental to have my teeth cleaned and she told me I needed Invisalign because my bite was wearing my teeth down and that in 5 years my teeth would be half the size they are. WHAT. No 27 year old wants to hear that. They told me it would be $5700 and that was after they took off $1000 for a promo and that I had 24hrs to think about it for them to honor the price. Thankfully I got a second opinion from Dr.Brunner!! His opening line was "I'm not here to SELL you treatment. I'm going to help you with what you actual need." What a relief! I found out that there is NOTHING wrong with my bite and all I needed was a simple night guard/retainer. He said my teeth looked perfect and there was nothing wrong with them. Correcting an impacted canine as an adult takes time and patience. I had both of those things, but most important, I had the skill and support of Dr. Bruner and his team. At my evaluation, it was clear that Dr. Bruner and Dr. Helgen understood the challenges of getting braces as an adult; they were happy to help make my braces as discreet as possible, especially at the beginning of my treatment, and that was SO important to me as I adjusted physically and mentally to wearing braces. Throughout my treatment, Dr. Bruner did everything possible to keep my canine moving as smoothly as possible. Teeth do NOT move quickly when you're a few decades beyond junior high, but Drs. Bruner and Helgen made frequent, carefully timed adjustments and activations that kept my ancient canine shifting slowly but surely into place. I was especially grateful that Dr. Bruner was willing to make time for me on the occasional Friday and sometimes super early in the morning. I'm in my late 30s and my teeth were very out of place. It's usually hard to make them straight at this age with braces, but Dr.Bruner did it! It's been 2 years with them and I can't be happier. Their staff, from the front desk to the dentists were absolutely professional, prompt and amazingly communicative. Even during COVID they were still operating with great precautions following the state guidelines. I went to Bruner Ortho after my son's new dentist recommended a check-up. I walked in somewhat skeptical because my son is only 7 and his teeth look pretty straight to me. I really did not want to listen to a sales pitch. The first 2 people I came in contact with were so overly nice that it only made me even more skeptical. But the truth is, this is not a gimmick, they are not nice just 'for show'. These people really care about their patients and have thought of every single possible detail to make their practice the best it can be. The place is very nice, with lots of parking, modern and clean offices with tons of amenities for kids and parents, and plain nice staff. I had my other kid with me and while I was speaking to the Doctor, his assistant brought some books and toys to occupy her. I'm telling you, they are on it! So great to see what real customer service is! Dr. Bruner was incredibly good with my kid, explained everything to him in a way he could understand and then to me. I had been consulting multiple orthodontists for the past 1-2 years because I wasn't sure who could take care of my complicated case and I couldn't trust just a few doctors; I really took my time by reviewing and discussing with doctors that were in other networks rather than getting looped up into one particular system. When I was first looking into getting braces, I went to two other places for consults and quotes, and the thing that stood out for me was the customer service and super friendly vibe of Dr. Bruner's office. I started my treatment at Dr. Bruner's office for that reason, even though the other two offices were closer to my home. Everyone there from the dental assistants to the front desk are very efficient, warm and outgoing. If you ever find yourself in the place where you are considering/needing adult braces, it's not something I would consider fun, but Dr. Bruner's office made it stress free and laid back. Dr. Helgen and Dr. Bruner are so friendly and it just makes for a really great experience. They were up front with all the options and very clear about how long treatment would be and how involved it would be depending on the option. I'll just say this, my teeth were MESSED UP. I didn't want to do metal braces, but wasn't sure my snaggleteeth could be corrected with invisalign, but Dr. Bruner and Dr. Helgen made it happen! I have been treated by Dr. Bruner couple of years ago and I have been hesitant to write this review because he seems to be a nice guy and all the are not any better than before. I never had crooked teeth and was getting treatment to just improve my bite. Unfortunately my bite is still very poor. In fact I can only chew from one side as the other has no contact. Also, he left one canine tooth way shorter than the other so my smile looks off as well. After paying thousands of $$$$ I regret choosing him as my orthodontist. My two daughters were also treated by him. My older one was left with her canines little too long and my younger one has the upper teeth protruding, making her profile look worse than before. When I realized a year and a half ago that I was getting married, I started panicking becuase Iwould be taking so many pictures and I was so unhappy with my smile. My fiance obviously doesn't care but I did. Dr. Bruner and his team got me in right away and explained in detail what the process of multiple options were, but my easiest route with amazing results was invisalign. Each visit, the staff were beyond amazing and I worked with the same group of techs for the entire process of my braces. They truly do care about you. My dentists had been nagging me for over 10 years, but braces were never in my parent's budgets. Want to know how Dr. Bruner's work holds up LONG TERM? Read this review. I was a patient of Dr. Bruner's over a decade ago, as a young teenager. Now, at 26, I'm starting over my orthodontic journey--on my first day of Invisalign today (at a different orthodontic office). Why? Because Dr. Bruner's work was done incorrectly. Despite years of having braces, followed by years of wearing my retainer in compliance with their instructions, my teeth still moved back to crooked positions and my overbite returned. In fact, the only reason I stopped wearing my retainer was because it became so uncomfortable as my teeth started to move. But, as a poor college student putting myself through school, I didn't have the opportunity to return to orthodontic treatment until now. I've been informed by several orthodontists and dentists now that Dr. Bruner's work was done incorrectly and "of course it didn't hold up over time." The crooked teeth were not just cosmetic; I was also informed that the way they moved back would affect the health of my teeth & my bite and correcting them now is important for my health. So now, I get to start over, and pay thousands of dollars (after insurance coverage!) to fix my teeth for the second time. Money out of my pocket, and I have to repeat a physically painful experience. Not only did Dr. Bruner fail to complete my treatment correctly, I have nothing but sour memories from every single time I visited his office as a teenager. The process of braces was incredibly painful for me, and I cannot recall ever being shown basic compassion as a child in pain. More than once I sat through appointments in tears, and neither the assistants nor Dr. Bruner himself showed any empathy or consideration. In fact, I recall being shamed for getting upset on more than one occasion. I have thick scars crisscrossing the insides of my cheeks on both sides from where the tissue was cut open repeatedly. These horrible experiences made me very anxious and fearful to return to orthodontia. As someone who went on to work in healthcare (not in a dental or orthodontic setting, but still), I'm absolutely appalled and wouldn't dream of treating my patients as callously as they did to me. Luckily, I've found a great office to do my treatment now. Lots of these reviews are from PARENTS of teenage patients. If you want to know what it's like to actually BE the patient, there it is. And here's what you can expect in the years following treatment. Even if Bruner's work looks nice for a while, his work doesn't hold up over time. Waste of money, time, and pain. I actually found out about Bruner Orthodontics when I was looking for an orthodontist for my sister to get braces. I actually looked on Yelp, and I liked the reviews that I saw, so I thought I'd give them a try! The other reviews were spot on! Regarding the office, it was nice and clean without being pretentious. They have water and coffee in the waiting area. There is adequate parking outside. The treating area is an open space with 4 or 5 (can't remember) chairs lined up. That was a little surprising, but I think that's how most orthodontic offices are like. They also have a separate chair in the back as well. Regarding the staff, everything there was really friendly. Dr. Bruner and Dr. Halgen are super nice. They're professional while still being very approachable. They have excellent chair side manner, which is more important than you would think! You want to be able to actually talk to your doctor about what your concerns are. He's board certified, and you can tell by the information he gives you that he's very knowledgeable in his field. What I really liked--he doesn't push treatment. He tells you the options, tells you what will realistically achieve your goals (and the limitations of the treatments), and goes from there. At no point did he ever pressure us into choosing one option. The office environment has a professional but fun vibe to it. I saw on the wall that they had a T-shirt contest going on, and a "good patient" contest for March Madness. If I had a kid who needed braces, I would definitely take him/her to see Dr. B/H. I went to Dr. Bruner's office today for a free consultation based on my dentist's recommendation. I was immediately impressed with the welcoming and professional reception of the front office staff. Due to moving around quite a bit, I have had the opportunity to visit many medical and dental offices, so it takes a lot to impress me. Monica, his assistant, collected photos, x-rays, and background information and made the whole process very smooth, quick, and painless. She was friendly, but also very thorough, and when the doctor came in for the consultation, all the information was ready to be reviewed. This was all part of the basic new patient evaluation. Dr. Bruner is very friendly and professional, and took time to study the information and give me several options. He did not try to push orthodontic treatment, but patiently gave me some possibilities to consider. I also appreciate that he did not rush through the visit. He obviously has a very good way of relating to patients, and has set the right tone, which shows up in the high quality of his staff. Appointments started on time and were generally quick which helped with my work schedule. It was also fairly easy to make early/late appointments to get around work hours.
