Having to hire a slate roofer in the Allentown area (rather than relying on our old one in another…read morearea) turned out to be a re-education about the difficulty of finding a reputable and responsive roofer. In all, I made five phone calls to try to line up estimates on having slates replaced. Two never bothered to return the call. One called back 3-4 days later. Another called back 2 days later. (That guy, the Coplay, not Bensalem Romano, said he "doesn't do" estimates on slate replacements.) Just one called back that very day, and boy, did we luck out - J & M Roofing. We already knew the rough going price of slate replacement and J & M was right in the pocket. The boss, Greg, was a charming and down to earth guy and his son (he has two in the business with him) made a point of stopping by swiftly and taking pictures that were emailed to us to show exactly what needed replacing. Greg has been in the business a long time and knows how to ration his time. Quicker jobs like ours get reserved for days of iffy weather and weekends, and indeed, the following weekend he and one son and one helper showed up and got the job done in short order. The job was done just recently so I can't tell you about durability. I can tell you that we were happy with the speed of response, and that all the workers were personable and cleaned up afterwards decently. Throughout the process, Greg was a good and consistent communicator too. If you're looking for an experienced roofer - and one who knows slate - definitely include J & M Roofing in your considerations.

He didn't overcomplicate the project or load me up with roofing jargon like other contractors did. Their quote came in customized to our project and was built to have no large "extra material " surprises when the project closed. They were always communicative and friendly about the project. When they encountered a situation that was abnormal, they walked me through the issue and offered resolutions that would've cost them money. They seem to be stand-up craftsmen who want to do a good job at all costs and don't treat their customers like just another number. If you are going to invite anyone to do work on their home especially on your roof, they are the type to get.

All of the seals held, no water or wind infiltration. Great value for the cost considering the work and special colors I needed to comply with HOA requirements. The team that installed my windows, screens, sliding balcony door and new window sills were excellent. Very professional and nice. I highly recommend Warren Thompson and Son Roofing & Siding if you need new windows.

After having negative experiences with dishonest contractors in the past, resulting in poor workmanship and costly rework, quality and honesty are extremely important to me. From start to finish, this experience exceeded my expectations in every way! Their attention to detail and commitment to doing the job right truly set them apart. They thoroughly documented the work with clear before-and-after photos and took the time to explain both the issue and the completed repair. That level of transparency gave me complete peace of mind and full confidence that the work was done correctly. My gutters are now flowing perfectly, and the vent pipe repair completely stopped the leak in my house, preventing further damage. The crew was professional, respectful, and incredibly thorough, leaving the area spotless when they were finished. Pricing was fair and transparent with no surprises...just honest and high-quality workmanship.

I ended up fixing them myself as it was more or less introductory work and was easier than scheduling a second fix. AVOID AT ALL COST! THEY WILL CHARGE YOU $188 PER HOUR TO GO SHOPPING!!…read more Mr. Handyman charges $ 188 per hour (currently). Even though, I sent pictures ahead, the handyman arrived without the necessary materials to do the work. He said, he needed to go to Home Depot (HD) to buy standard drywall to fill a few foot of a rectangular shaped hole that had already been cut out after a plumbing leak in ceiling. Already annoyed, that an appointment had previously been cancelled, I told him that there was no way, that I was going pay the company $188 per hour to go out and buy two boards ( the other being a piece of plywood). If that was the case, then they could forget about the job and he could leave. He then called the company and was given permission to not sign in, until he returned with the materials, and that I wouldn't be charged for the shopping time. He related this to me, and I agreed to let him proceed. He returned circa 1hr + 15 mins later. It took the worker 1.5 hours to do the job. The final price I was I initially presented with for 1.5 hrs of work was over $500! I then reviewed with their office, that the worker had gone to the store to purchase supplies and they had agreed that I wasn't going to be charged for shopping! Not wanting to hear that, She threatened to take me to small claims court for not paying that initial amount, stating that they put GPS in their vans and knew exactly where he had been. I told her the worker would confirm what I was saying and that I would give him the phone to do so. She expressed no interest in talk with him. Unfortunately, she must have just looked at his initial time of arrival and refused to hear that an agreement had been made not to sign in. She threatened to take me to small claims court for not paying that amount. I told her to go for it. . I was only going to pay her for the 1.5 hours of actual work. She then said they could reduce the amount to $ 400+ . I told her again, no I was only paying for 1.5 hrs. I asked for an itemized bill for the cost of the materials. She indicated $90 + I again asked for an itemized bill. She indicated she would email it to me after I paid. What I received was not an itemized bill! She temailed back that they don't send itemized bills for products purchased after telling me she would send one. Lesson learned, never go with a company that charges by the hour especially one's that make you pay to get supplies. One should question how ethical such a company is? Be kind to yourself. Don't use Mr. Handyman!
