Bruno's Signature is still going strong, serving up top notch meats at (sometimes very high) prices. When I walk into Bruno's, I see a clean and organized deli/butcher, with knowledgeable staff and skilled butchers. Bruno's has an open concept, so you can actually look through a window and watch them chop up your meat. When I walk in, I also see dry-aged prime rib in a special dry-aging compartment. Once I asked about the price, and the reply was, "Do you REALLY want to know??" Ok, fair enough, I was wearing my everyday clothes and probably looked like I couldn't even afford a sausage. I'll get my husband to go in there, on his way home from work, and see if he can buy a single rib Dry Aged Prime Rib for me to prepare for a Mother's Day gift. Meanwhile, I bought something more economical ....but still kind of luxe. I bought an entire striploin on sale. The price was actually only $1 more than No Frills, and I got 12 steaks!! That will certainly last us a while. After laying 3 aside for our evening meal, I tossed the rest in the freezer. That steak is so great, just butter-basted in a skillet with your favourite aromatics. Despite my above anecdote, Bruno's is not a stuck-up or snobby place at all, but just your neighbourhood butcher. And, if you keep an eye on their specials, it is not to pricey at all. However, you can spend a fortune if you aren't aware of reasonable pricing. As grocery store food prices soar upward, Bruno's prices seem to remain relatively static, in a good way, so that it is worth my money to check it out, especially when they have deals or sales. Bruno's has long been a great place to get great cuts of meat, including aged beef, from their butcher counter. They carry some of the best products, including refrigerated house-made cured meats, prepared foods, and ready to cook foods. They have so much to choose from! I love buying their cold-cut-ends deli meats. There's always a variety of meats available at great prices and they're great for making sandwiches or having with a salad. The place is a real hit or miss depending on who made the product. I've had carbonara that was so over powered by mushrooms - it may as well have been mushroom soup for sauce. The meatballs on occasion have had an entire bush of parsley (?) way too much! The real problem is the price. We all shop at the grocery store and these are commonly made items.. the mark up is crazy. The portion of food I received today, and a few other times was offensive. This was my first time going to Bruno's -- and this occasion happened to be to pick up the turkey I ordered on their website for Christmas dinner. I loved their updated availability on their website to order (huge plus!) I went to pick the Turkey up on chosen date (December 23) and the process was seamless. There were more than enough staff helping to keep things moving like a very well oiled machine. Had I not been captured into looking around the store I could have been in and out in a few minutes. Instead, also left with tourtiere, spicy pepperoni sticks, turkey seasoning blend and a few other finds. Everyone loved the turkey - I'm told it was super fresh and tons of flavour (whether that be thanks to Bruno's or the chef - me ... when you have great ingredients makes chef life easier) I'll definitely go back! I should also note I'm a vegetarian (and here I am reviewing a butcher shop!) and I have to say I really appreciated the cleanliness + it felt more like an artisan type shop up front and not a raw meat factory. read more

Been going there for quite some time and u went last week and was robbed. I spent 205.00 in meet to come home with no burgers. Yes it was 12.99 but thats not the point. I called and told them I dont have the buyers, the guy that handle my call say to check my car checked it 3 times there is nothing there. He insist customers find it in their car after so do it again. As a puppet I went back and checked for the 4th time and no burgers. He couldn't do anything about it said to call on Monday...that was Friday I called and no one can help me or compensate me for my 12.99 burgers. As I said I spend 205 so 12.99 is not a big deal. I go 2 times a month and I usually spend between 200 to 500. Im in search for a new meat shop now. Don't shop there for dishonest cashiers or owner. read more

This update is based on their customer service over the phone. I called in to check on their pricing on sliced short ribs (like for Korean BBQ) and the response was, "I don't know, you would have to come in." Really, Bruno's? So I asked, "You don't know what you charge for a product?" to which he replied, "No, because I'm in the office. You would have to ask the front." If it's too much effort for him to get his behind off the chair in the office to ask his own staff what the cost of a product is, I can't see why I should waste my time driving in to the store to find out. I ordered frozen beef wellington and salmon wellington. They were quite expensive so I expected both to be really good. What a disappointment. The spices overwhelmed what should have been the start of the dishes - beef and salmon. I expected to get a taste of beef and salmon but instead I got very strong herb and/or spice flavors. I went there on 1/19/19 and bought a frozen duck breast. When I got part way home I looked at the package and it had a best before date of 12/25/18. I took it back, spoke with the manager who explained that because it was frozen it would still be fine despite having expired 3 weeks earlier. Suffice to say, I took my money and left. The fact that they tried to tell me it was ok to eat expired meat because it was still frozen is unacceptable and worth reporting to Durham Public Health. They tried to exchange it for other meats but I refused. Also worth noting, the King Cole Duck Breast I purchased was approximately .262 kg for $10.04. After I left, I went to Real Canadian Superstore and got a larger one for $7.25. read more

This butcher is really a hit and miss experience. Some products are good while others are mediocre to terrible. Turkey products are pretty good, pork are hit and miss, never bought chicken, beef products are terrible, and sausages are mediocre. I've tried their steaks several times and now given up. Costco steaks are consistently better. Sausages have been a let down. As long as I'm marinating the meat myself, the end result is much better. read more

I love this place - I would give it 5 stars if the prices weren't so high! I discovered Bruno's Signature at the beginning of this summer and have easily returned weekly ever since. Their salads are absolutely delicious and make having guests for dinner so much easier! I've tried their: taco salad, caeser salad, spicy bean salad, egg salad, cranberry goat cheese salad, greek salad, macaroni salad - all are excellent! The chicken kebobs are really delicious and we enjoyed our Salmon Wellington for Christmas dinner. One disappointment was the steak we bought for grilling - it was really pricey and I didn't think the high price was justified since I've had equal (or better) quality steak for much less $$. They have a ton of different meats and gourmet foods to try and I look forward to it! read more

Great butcher shop. High quality and great selection. I wish they had more wild game. Also, I find their bison a little pricey. However, they have fantastic free range chicken and turkey. Their beef and pork cuts look excellent, even if I don't buy them very often. They also sell organic meat. If you pre-order you can get a really good turkey from them for the holidays. One of the things that make a butcher shop is the butchers themselves, and the butchers behind the counter here are very polite and seem quite knowledgeable and experienced. The ladies behind the till are also quite easy to deal with. I always leave here feeling like it was worth the stop. read more

I've been shopping at Bruno's for years. This weekend I dropped in on one of my outings. I ordered a Rib Steak that my wife and I could split. When I got to the cashier and tendered a $50 bill I was told cash was unacceptable. My plastic was at home. I had cash and my drivers licence One of the owners / managers came by and told me in a loud voice so everyone could hear..."there's even a sign on the door." So, after years of patronage, I'm treated like a convicted felon. I don't tolerate fools. Just come over and explain my mistake. I'll understand. But grandstanding....that's not on. So I've dumped my Bruno's loyalty card and I now am a customer of a Butcher who was suggested to me years earlier. It just took a moment's ignorance to push me over the edge. Goodbye Bruno's. Our expensive turkey was another huge disappointment! 2nd time in 3 yrs we have been given an obvious utilility bird. Certainly not a grade A!!! Obvious since most of one wing was missing. (Yes, 2nd experience). 3rd time Im the fool so last time we will shop Brunos. This turkey was strangely thin as barely any breast meat on my 16 lb bird. Was very dry and tasted previously frozen. They also sell old fish. Keep it in display up to 10 days, then freeze! Should be taken off display by 3rd day, reduced in price & frozen. I dont know how they dont worry about making customers sick!!! They are over-priced and only care about the buck. Oldest brother very rude and unapologetic. Ever wonder why they only have frozen ground turkey & chicken? I suspect b/c its past their fresh date and old meat! Food Inspectors pls keep a watchful eye! read more

I have been going to Brunos off and on (don't live in the area) for close to 20 years! I love their meats. A little expensive... but worth it. My favourite is the coffee/black pepper marinated pork tenderloin. It is amazing BBQed! I have also had the ham, beef tenderloin, sirloin steak, bacon, stuffed chicken breast(yummy), so I would disagree with the negative beef comment below. I do agree that Costco beef is very good, but in my experience, the beef tenderloin here is tops. I have also had good experience the one time I had to call in for assistance. They also sell bone marrow, and "dog bones" etc., if you are interested in that. Their burgers are really tasty! I do agree with the sausage comment... I bought a few different flavoured ones (raw ones that you cook yourself), and was a little disappointed in the (lack) of flavouring.... I was looking for more. However, their pre-cooked sausages (roasted garlic, salsa etc) are very good. So, overall, I would recommend this highly. Again, a little expensive, so don't go if you are bargain driven... but if you are looking for a nice cut - definitely don't pass it by. Local butcher with tonnes of selection. I usually get Canadian bacon, sausages, hamburgers, seasoned skewers when they are on sale, and ready made salads and pizzas. They are expensive so I usually wait for sales which they do send e-mails if you sign up. The only thing I wish they had was pork belly, but they will do it if you ask in advance. read more

Some very excellent steaks, aged 42 days. Rivals any fine restaurants steaks. Some New York Striploin you have to buy a whole slab, but at 1" thick you'll get about 13 steaks out of it. My friend lives close by and was talking about this place so devotion check it out. There is a lot of parking space when you get there. I knew I wanted kabobs for the BBQ so went straight to the meat counter. The girl at the counter was friendly and answered my questions. They vacuum seal the meat in a container ( no brown butcher paper). I did not browse the store but noticed the had pre made meals for sale. The price was a little bit more than grocery store but the pieces of chicken were bigger and it tasted delicious (I bought the piri piri chicken kabob). It's not near my place but will return if I'm in the area. (Only four stars since I didn't try more products). read more

I love Bruno's. I trust the meat products. They make their own sausages and hotdogs. They marinate some meats. It is a bit more expensive and a bit of a drive but always worth it.
