This mall is looking quite outdated, but there are some interesting finds in the food court. I'm usually kind of skeptical of these basic bubble tea places, so I didn't expect much here, but I thought I'd give it a try since I was getting a meal in this food court. I was pleasantly surprised! I got a red rose green milk tea with grass jelly. The "milk" is creamer and I'm not sure about the tea, but the rose syrup included actual rose flower and tasted great! And I could taste the green tea, which is often not the case with flavoured milk teas. There was a good amount of grass jelly and not too much ice. Are there better $6 bubble teas out there? Sort of a no frills bubble tea place in International Village (formerly Tinseltown). This mall is aging and a bit run down and a bit forgotten about. No real big name stores are in here, however that may add to the charm of this place. Anyways, down to this place. The place accepted credit card, which was a relief. I opted for the lychee slush, while my friend got peach slush. These are powdered flavours so you can't really judge on the quality of freshness, but the tastes were nice! Good sweetness levels, nice slush texture and the pearls were GOOD! That's really what you can evaluate bubble tea on... pearls. Again, no frills bubble tea shop. I've been craving for HK milk tea for the past couple of days, so when I heard a lady mention "milk tea", I got excited. I asked the owner if they had "hot HK milk tea", he said yes and asked if I wanted bubbles. In my mind, I was thinking why would you ask me that? It only came in one size - 16oz and cost $5. I got a bit worried when I saw him pouring cold milk tea in a pot and left it on the stove to "reheat". 2-3 minutes later, he added some powdered milk (not evaporated milk) and sugar. When I got the drink, it was so hot I could barely drink it. Once I did, it was just disappointing. It was basically a hot non-bubble milk tea and not HK milk tea. read more

I didn't even realize this place was new until I noticed the words said "Bubble King" instead of "Sammi's" which is what used to be in the spot. Looks like the sign was the only thing they changed. Parking is free under Tinseltown for a few hours. Today they had a $4 avocado bubble tea special. Even though I went in with no expectations, this one was pretty weird. After letting my friends try as well, one of them (who was quite the diplomat) said that it would "not be [his] first choice". The good news is that the food court is pretty empty, so you can easily host a group of 100 here. Maybe the other drinks are better. Who knows. read more

Bubble King Tea House. I was craving something to quench my thirst after walking around and freezing my butt off outside. We stumbled randomly into the International Village Mall, which has quite the random assortment of stores. Head upstairs to the second floor where you'll see a decent amount of food options. A few actually looked promising, specifically Canra Srilankan Plus, sadly, we were too stuffed to try anything. Let's keep this short and sweet. The options are pretty standard and price is average. What I found hilarious is the mock, plasticky bubble tea drinks in the corner. And if you break them, it'll cost you big time. Gheeeettttto. - Strawberry bubble tea with lychee pieces ($4.25 +$0.75 extra) - you won't be blown away but for what it's worth, it was decent. The boba was delicious, they gave a lot of boba pearls and the milk tea was creamy. The worker was so nice. I recommend this shop!

I just got an almond milk tea and it was so sweet it was undrinkable. I waited for the ice to melt and it was still unbearable. I think it's pretty hard to make a bad drink but somehow they managed to do so by dumping in probably five times more sugar than needed. Sad I wasted 4 dollars on this. Update: okay seriously how do you give negative stars! My friend who got a matcha milk tea with pearls just finished his drink during our walk around town. He suddenly started spitting out the bubbles into the trash saying he felt something hairy in his mouth. Fished it out of his mouth onto his finger only to find a dead fly. See photo. We should've sent our drinks back right away when mine didnt taste good but we felt bad since we had sent it back once when the guy got our orders wrong (don't ask why we felt bad, it was his fault he mixed them up and we were the only two customers ordering..). Came here for bubble tea after dinner last night. Ordered the green tea with pearls which was $3.00 (before tax). Cash only. The pearls are soft and chewy and are delicious! Only huge negative is that there only appears to be one person running the entire kiosk. Cash, drinks, everything. So I had to wait a good 5+ minutes before my order was even taken. And then had to wait for my order. If it wasn't for the delicious pearls and great price, this would have easily been a 1 or 2 star review. I recommend coming here only if there is no line up. read more

I love my bubble tea and have to say this is a far cry from good bubble tea. I clearly ordered my drink and server questioned me twice, despite the fact that I pointed to the promo sign on the counter twice. I know what I want, I know what I'm ordering. Sour is good. But the drink came and was sickly sweet. I was also surprised to have weird chunks of, what I'm hoping was, green mango. The texture was weird and gross. My drink also contained a strange mixture of dark pearls (too soft) and caramel pearls (frozen & dry, wtf??). All of the questionable textures and syrupy sweetness were awful. I have never tossed a bubble tea before but after drinking more than half, I was so done with it. The price point was attractive but I wouldn't come here again nor recommend it. Also, there is a very off-putting sign on the counter that says if you break/damage one of their bubble tea display drinks that the penalty is a $25 fine. But they sell drinks for $4!! We stopped here on our way back to the hotel since it was late in the afternoon. We were super tired and just visited the garden and bakery too. The shopping mall was a little depressing and the bathroom was a bit scary with bums washing themselves. Well, it is to be expected in this area. I got a red bean dessert and my wife got the peach mango smoothie with tapioca pearls in both. Mine was the best in my humble opinion with a layer of red bean (not blended), a layer of crushed ice, milk, and layer of pearls. This place is slowly slipping in the ranks for me. I used to love, love, love them. The old lady must have handed it down to her son, or something? There's a younger man there nowadays. Super disorganized and doesn't make papaya milk smoothies like the lady used to. We were at the movies in the mall. A nice, cold papaya smoothie afterwards was in order for a hot, summer's day. I suppose it's do-able when he's all alone and has all the time in the world to make one or two smoothies. But, after that experience, I can't trust this guy to do a good job anymore. It was a sunday early evening I was the only person ordering. The young guy had all time in the world to make me a bland room temperature milky tea with pearls. Quite lousy result considering he took quite some time to make the drink. His mind must stayed at woo woo land, because a minute ago two of his lady friends, from inside the shop, put their butts and legs on the counter and exited the shop where customer would be making order. Should I go on and on on shoe hygiene and whatnot? Obviously the young guy was in charge and he doesn't give a shit. There were lots people at food court and people are not blind. Great bbt place in chinatown. I've come here many times when Im in the area and always order their fresh papaya milk w/pearls. Quality has been consistent every time! Papaya tastes fresh and pearls are soft. Also, good amount of sweetness. Drinks are chilled which is nice for the summer weather. read more

Located inside Tinseltown. I came here before a show to get some bubble tea and to hang with a friend. We were sitting in different sections and just wanted to get away from the crowd of the coffee shop and costco so we came here to connect before the opening act. Decent bubble tea, but nothing extraordinary. My girlfriend and I stopped in here for a quick drink after walking around Chinatown. The store was located on the second floor of the International Village Mall. I had the honey green milk tea while my girlfriend had the taro milk tea. The honey green milk tea was very nice-- very sweet, which made up for the fact that the pearls weren't cooked in sugar. The taro milk tea was decent, a little bland and powdery, but otherwise okay. read more
