After a couple of weeks in Europe and a day of a coin Amsterdam we wanted a cozy spot to wind down and catch our breath and Bubbles & Wine bar was a perfect fit. Located on a small quiet street just steps away from one of the busy arteries, this spot offers dozens of wines by the glass, including fine champagne plus ample charcuterie trays and other small bites. It was the perfect antidote to the big meals. I of course started with a blanc de blanc champagne and my partner a white burgundy while we nibbled on wedges of Parmesan cheese with a honey and truffle oil drizzle. Next we ordered the two meat two cheese tray which also came with bread, olives and some tasty olive oil. This was more than enough food and at only 25€ a great value too. I tried the Bordeaux blend flight and my wife another glass of a blend from medoc. The owner and proprietor couldn't have been more friendly and did a great job explaining the wines and helping provide guidance. Prices overall are very reasonable and the atmosphere is cozy and inviting. Be sure to seek out this spot while in Amsterdam. read more

Love this place. Intimate, a great retreat from the hustle and bustle of Dam Square. I came here twice while in Amsterdam - the way they lay out the wines by the glass is great - there will be Rose wines (3 to choose from) or you can do a flight of all 3 - they do this with all the wines by the glass. We tried the Rose, Bordeaux, Italian and Pinot Noir flights. Really great selection of wines and proper glasses for all. The wine list is vast and there is something for everyone (palate and price wise). The food was great - I ended up taking home a jar of truffle honey as well. Wanted to love this place because there are so few wine bars in Amsterdam. They have an extensive list of wines by the glass and an even larger list of bottles. My husband ordered a burgundy and I chose a brunello di montalcino. We also ordered a cheese platter which was supposed to be served with bread and dried fruit. Although the wines were good, the pours were stingy and the cheese came without any fruit. We ordered another glass each, asking them to be a little more generous. We also asked for the fruit and were given a little pot of dog jam. Although we liked what we ordered, having to ask for what was promised on the menu and needing 2nd glasses to make up for the small quantities was a turn off. I found this little piece of paradise by complete happenstance because I was looking for a restaurant nearby which had actually closed. I was in the Hudson Bay store and I could see the L' Artelier du Champagne storefront through the windows. It was a magical moment since I plan to do an immersion study in Champagne. L' Artelier du Champagne was closed because it was Monday but Bubbles & Wine is located next door and they where open. The staff was so friendly and informative. The champagne and wine list is very extensive and impressive. I tried the champagne flight with Champagne Boucant-Thiery, Louis Roederer, and Laurent-Perrier paired with a nice artichoke spread and yummy olive crackers. I guess I'm biased with this review, but I do consider this my "local pub", though it is not a pub and I actually don't go there everyday despite what it implies! But whether I'm up for a nice, quiet evening with a glass of wine, or meeting up with friends before dinner, this centrally located wine bar is the place I go to. Service is always good and most importantly, knowledgeable staff, helping you choose the perfect glass of wine to suit your mood. Food menu includes a good selection of cheese from l'Amuse, caviar, charcuterie, olives, etc. One of the few bars in Amsterdam where you can sit undisturbed at the bar, with your glass of wine, a magazine and an occasional chat with the friendly staff. They've a vinomatic system setup, so you can easily get flights of smaller pours if you're the indecisive type, or just want to check out new things. This place is great. Only a 5 minutes walk from the busy activity of Dam Square, you'll find this gem of a place. It has a smallish, underspoken facade, but on the inside, it opens up to a fabulous, dark, contemporary room that stretches to the back by the actual wine bar. As the name would imply, a vigorous list of wines & champagnes are featured. Some are well known, but there are some to intrigue even the affcianado out to try something new. With regards to 'something new', the staff here is more than accustomed to providing anyone...even the casual visitor looking for a wine 'tour', a specialized choice of wines to enjoy. Special care is given for those wanting to explore a handful of wines so as not to let them conflict with one aother, but instead add to as each wine may get more complex or simple. Bottom line is to feel free to ask for suggestions. You'll be happily guided. With a blustery, damp, cold wind outside, this visit warranted some rich, hearty Reds. Delicious. Hors d'oeuvres are actually pretty tasty here. Definitely try the smoked salmon, the olives and artichoke tapenade with crackers The bacon wrapped dates were pretty good too. Tucked steps away from the Dam, Bubbles and Wines is a great wine bar, with a great selection, and an amazing staff . This is primarily a pre- or post-dinner location (or as several other reviewers accurately pointed out, a date location), as their food selection is very limited (if you sit at the bar, you shall see what the staff has to work with, in terms of kitchen... It is a burner and a microwave). If eating, stick with cheese selection or the smoked salmon cubes if that is your thing. All of the wine flights are well-devised and full of surprises (when I visited in November 2013). Couple of examples: The champagne flight consisted of a big house and two smaller, grower champagnes. The Riesling one is a mash up of German, Australian (Australian??? really? 2006? pretty awesome) and New Zealand (2001 vintage no less). All of the 18 or so pours by the glass behind the bar are pretty solid or you can opt for a bottle from the hundreds available at your disposal. The staff is the best thing here though. They are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. They can leave you alone to pick your wine or cater to your tastes based on your preferences, etc. Not sure how accurate it is, but i was told wine bars are getting some acclaim as of late in Amsterdam (pure wine bars, not talking about bars carrying a good selection of wine) and Bubbles and Wines is positioned to claim its well-earned crown, in the face of the competition (Vyne, Pulitzer, etc.). read more

Enjoying a few days of Amsterdam without raising a glass or 2 at Bubbles & Wine is not something we will ever do again. This place has, after just one visit, earned a spot on our default itinerary for trips to the capital of Holland. Located a block away from the dam this little gem offers great wine selection paired with some tasty finger food options. Although the emphasis of this establishment is on wine there is a nice selection of drinks available for people like me that simply do not care of wine, with or without bubbles. This wine bar is located just a few blocks off Dam Square and I was really surprised to find such a good place in an area that otherwise mostly seem to hold tourist traps. The space is long and narrow and can seat fairly many people. There are both regular tables and some high tables but I prefer the seats at the bar. The owner here is extremely friendly and it is clear he really loves his wines and he is happy to talk about them and give recommendations. The wine list is impressive with something like 40 wines by the glass and numerous others by the bottle. They are either grouped by grape or by region and there are several different wine flights (with 3 half glasses) available and these are great fun. I read about Bubble & Wines before my trip and it was one of the many things I was very excited about. I love champagne. I'm not a big champagne drinker. Certainly not a connoisseur or anything, but I really enjoy it. For me, it's a once in while treat. But the idea of doing a champagne tasting was very exciting, and I was reading such great reviews about the place. I went on a Thursday night around 9:00. It was slow. There was only one other customer at the time. The staff seemed so-so nice. I certainly wasn't expecting to be best friends or anything, but a little bit more friendliness would have been nice. Still, I was excited about the champagne flight. Unfortunately, it was not so good. Again, I'm no connoisseur but I think I can tell when a champagne is rather flat and the first two champagnes were just that. The third was quite good. I mentioned all this to the bartender and his response was literally, "Oh." My response is, "Oh well." This experience certainly didn't damper my otherwise wonderful day, but I certainly would recommend Bubbles & Wines and I certainly wouldn't go back. Oh well. read more

I am so behind my reviews lately but now I am finally catching up. First time I came to this place was with my current boyfriend, that at the time brought me there for our first official date. It couldn't have been more special. The atmosphere is very gezellig as the dutchies would say and the owner really gives you personal attention. The wine selection is also very good and before you choosing one he explains all about it and also based on your preference he knows exactly what to offer you. It's literally in an alley, but SO cool. It's super dark inside, but intimate. Take a date or your best girlfriend and have great one-on-one time. There's literally a giant book of wines and champagne to try, but don't get a flight. It's way more cost effective to get individual glasses. My friend and I went after dinner, around 9 p.m. on a Thursday, and the place was only about a third full. We're both in our early 20s, and everyone else there was definitely in their 30s or older, but the hostess didn't treat us any differently. We ordered four glasses altogether (a cabernet, rose, chardonnay, and port), and it set us back 20 euros a person. read more
