WHAT A NIGHTMARE!!!! NEVER AGAIN I rented a van in Berlin. They gave me a van with damages and dents all on the right side of the vehicle. The rest of the vehicle was fine. I signed the protocol saying I acknowledge the damage. I returned the vehicle as I received it and the next day they said I put new dents exactly where the other dents were. I showed them the protocol and they continued to say I put the 'new' dents on the vehicle. Now they want to charge me EUR 1300 for damages when the rental was meant to be EUR 230. The case is in review still but I continue to get letters of demand for the outstanding money. I have had to get a lawyer to assist further. Ripoff! booked a car in Germany through the Thrifty site, and when we got there the name was Terstappen, and they had a laminated notice that you HAD to have at least $75k USD coverage or buy their insurance (our cc only covered $50k), and I searched for this info before the trip & even contacted Thrifty, but was never given this info which is clearly a ruse to force you to buy their expensive insurance. Oh and I did have the letter stating our coverage as $50k & was told that was not enough, so why is this infomation not available clearly presented? No, it is hidden so you don't know until you arrive tired & already having paid for the car. Do not rent from Buchbinder. I have rented from the company 2x now and have had a less than satisfactory experience each time. The last and final straw -- I returned the car in the same condition in which I received it. I was cleared and the deposit was returned to my account. 1 month later Buchbinder withdrew over 1000 Euros from my account. They said there was a minor chip in the windshield... which cost them 2000 Euros to repair. If this was the case, this should have been discussed with me when I returned the vehicle and not one month later. Furthermore, a windshield replacement costs 500 Euros MAX!! Also, the car appeared to have some repair for each previous rental...notice a trend?! Now when I call to dispute the charge, Buchbinder representatives tell me to ''email''. I have sent an email every week and have not received ANY input from Buchbinder. I will be taking this case up with my attorney. Buchbinder is an absolute scam and incredibly unprofessional. I would never Use Dollar / Buchbinder in Germany! What a rip off they thrive on billing you for fake claims, on insurance you are mandated to buy even with proper credit card per them. If you live in the US you cannot go through Dollar to get this worked out you have to call Germany directly and speak with them, they have clearly hung up on me 3 times. It's was a disappointing experience. First of all, we asked for an economy car and were direct to a van in the garage without being told. So it was along walk with luggage in two directions for no good reason. They had many economy cars on the lot but they were reserved. I had reserved one myself, too, I thought. The only thing they'd give us was full size. In Germany, where gas is 7/gallon it makes a difference. They're whole process of returning the car was also convoluted. We picked the car up from Terminal one but when we tried to return it at Terminal one we were sent to terminal II. We found it with little difficulty but when pulled into the correct place, the employee didn't talk to us but simply gave us an obscure hand signal to keep moving. So we kept moving and end up leaving the garage and having to circle back in. This time we asked him what he meant by his hand signal. It meant: pull into space 5. Oh, now I get it. The return employees had no training at customer service. This was in contrast to the great many service and sales people we met on our trip in Germany. The car was OK, just too large. I had a reservation for one, i made it weeks in advance, upon arrival at Frankfurt airport I headed to the car Rental agency that was late to open. When the agent finally got there I was informed that they did not have any automatic cars available. Just what I needed after a long flight and a long drive ahead of me. Made my reservation using Kayak.com; it appears that in the handoff between Kayak and Holidayautos the pickup & dropoff times changed. Maybe? Either way - when I arrived in Frankfurt at 8am, they told me my reservation wasn't due to start for another 2 hours, and that they would need to charge me 20 EUR per hour. I pointed out that I would be returning the car by 8am as well, as was always the plan. Doesn't matter. You have to pay the 40 EUR. Ok, I say, can we cancel that reservation and make a new one that goes 8am-8am? Sure you can, but then you have to wait 45 minutes for the new reservation to "go through". Fine, I said, get ready for a negative review. The icing on the cake was when I returned the car, I made a video of the condition it was returned in (spotless, no damage). The look on the attendant's face went so sour as he realized they wouldn't be able to charge me for made-up damages after the fact (see numerous other reviews to that end). Tip: always make a quick video lap of the car when you pick it up and when you return it to prevent scammers like these. read more

Buchbinder Verona Airport Italy There was no waiting cue at the desk and the co workers were friendly, made a good first impression. Only thing was that I got a smaller and slower car than I payed for but to them it was equivalent. After checking the Clio (brandnew and shiny, nice car btw) I returned at the desk because there were hailspots which they didnt mark on the form. Before the second rental period (extension) I sent them an email in which I asked them to give the car I wanted initially. And..they gave it to me, a brandnew Ford Focus :-) I had to return to desk because again, I noticed some unreported damage. Unfortunately the car broke down at the end of the day. Within an hour there was someone from the company that helped me out and a One thing though: check the car thourougly cause they may not report all of the damage... read more

Total RIPOFF in so many ways! First, we showed up at the desk at Frankfurt with a 10-day economy-car reservation that had already been paid via Travelocity only to learn that Buchbinder decided to charge us an extra $350 USD (!!!!!!) for insurance AND required a $500 USD deposit. We paid for full coverage, because we were told by many sources that German rental-car companies were particularly fraudulent. Two days into our trip, a faulty tire went flat, and the vehicle had no spare tire, no jack, no tire-iron. Nothing. We called Buchbinder--which took an eternity--and they assured us they'd call us right back to tell us what to do next. Then we waited. And waited. And waited. And then called Buchbinder again only to learn that they had closed for the night. Fortunately Germany's public system of highway-repair personnel are fantastic; eventually they came along and helped us out. So we were towed after several hours, and then we were finally given a new vehicle. When we returned the new vehicle to Frankfurt, we'd since misplaced the initial damage inspection paperwork. When we told the staff this, they IMMEDIATELY found "two previously unreported scratches" on the vehicle despite not having the damage report on the vehicle, which was issued to us in Nuremberg. (Very suspicious and almost certainly opportunistic fraud.) The "new scratches" theory was total BS, by the way--the vehicle was pristine. Now, remember, we paid for FULL insurance coverage. When I reminded the clerk of this, she politely told me that I was right: since we paid full, we'd be reimbursed no matter what, but it might take her a few hours, so I should just go ahead and get on my plane and leave the country. Well, more BS from Buchbinder. It's been a week and I still have not received my $500 USD deposit reimbursement, nor have I heard back from Buchbinder's staff despite repeated attempts to contact them. About 4 months ago, I booked a car through rentalcars.com. I found a minivan for only 339$ for 13 days. Yesterday, my husband read the yelp.com reviews on Buchbinder, the car company we were to use, the rating was only 1.5 stars and over 50 reviews. All complained of the exact same thing. Apparently, you can only use a gold/platinum Mastercard or Canadian Visa Card. Only these cards are accepted for their rental car insurance. After reading all these poor reviews, I decided to call rentalcars.com to cancel my reservation. I spoke to Robert there who decided to attempt to reconcile this. He called Buchbinder for me and spoke to "Outay Garaboski" who stated as long as we bring in a credit card that had raised numbers and name, it would be accepted. I specifically said we will bring in a Chase Sapphire preferred Visa card and he said it would be accepted as long the numbers and letters are raised which they are. My husband went to Buchbinder today to pick up our minivan and they refused to accept his card! When my husband stated we called and talked to Outay Garaboski yesterday who said it would be fine, their representative stated there's no one of that name! They refused to let us rent the vehicle period! Don't let the low prices fool you.Find another company and DON'T use rentalcars.com. They refused to help me find another vehicle. In fact, they told me to walk around the Frankfurt terminal and find another car rental company who would take my credit card! I don't know how this company stays in business! read more

Frankfurt Airport Thrifty car rental is a scam. They quote the lowest price on several third party websites (http://arguscarrentals.c...) but then require an extra payment, typically for CDW insurance even though you have your own coverage, or maybe winter tires. They can be quite nasty if you object, and if you've already put down a deposit you are trapped. While at the return counter, there were ongoing disputes over damage charges on returned cars, I suspect they charge for the same small scratch over and over, if the renter does not notice it at pick-up. Pickup area poorly lit, return area brightly lit. There are other renters there, pay an extra couple of Euros, or better yet, take the train into town and avoid the mandatory Airport surcharge. Yelp's rating system really should allow negative values. I am yet another victim of Buchbinder's insurance scam. And, they tried to charge me 26.24 Euros for refueling a full gas tank. (Mastercard reversed the refueling charge after I disputed it, which is very easy on their Web site.) Awful experience. Had to wait almost 90 minutes to only then find out that the car type I had reserved wasn't available. In addition, found out that I had to pay almost double the amount stated including extra charges (not mentioned by holiday autos). Returned the car 3 days ago and found another $100+ charge on my card (returned with full tank and ok'd by attendant for damages). We rented a car few weeks back. At first, we got to know that the car we were going to rent, wasn't available, so we got another. It wasn't a big problem, though we hoped to have more spacious car, because we needed to do some furniture shopping. When picking up the car, they seemed to be very careless about obvious scratches and such, saying "they're only smudges". Because we could be charged for them, we naturally wanted to make sure that they are aware of every single scratch. Should have known from this point... Well, we got our stuff in the car. We drove to the motorway, and at 120 km/h the car gave some warning about motor oil and the motor temperature indicator jumped to the 120 Celsius. We immediately drove to the side of the road and turned the motor off. At first, we thought that maybe it overheated (after maybe 30 kilometers of driving...), so we decided to wait and then tried to start the car again. At that point, the light that indicates troubles in motor turned on. So we were on the side of busy motorway with our kids, all very tired and extremely irritated about the situation. It was Saturday evening, and we were trying to reach someone to tow the car. Finally, after waiting for over two hours, the tow truck came. Of course we TRIED to reach Buchbinder too, for almost an hour - no one answered! Considering that the car broke down and we got to use it for few hours instead of one day, we thought that they naturally have to refund the whole rent. It has been very hard to reach anyone! And when we did, they refunded only part of the rent! Wtf really? I also wonder how it could be that the car which was relatively new, had that kind of problem. Maybe it's because they don't maintain their cars, I don't know? We are never going to rent anything from Buchbinder, and we cannot recommend it to anyone! Stay away! read more

This company even did not deserve one star. When returning the car, the employee told us that there are 2 new scratches, but this was not caused by us. We did not picture the car at inception, as it was far from perfect condition, it was old Ford Focus. But it is only the beginning of the story. Later next week, we got the invoice, buchbinder claimed 1.2k for "damage", that obviously nonsense, as 2 small scratches on old car can not cost that much. While it sounds like other people have had problems here, I had minimal issues. I booked through another provider online, and the car Thrifty gave me was a little bit larger than what I expected, but it sounds like that is more an issue of the site I booked it on than anything else. The reason for the four star rating instead of five: the deposit was HUGE because I refused the insurance they offered (about $1300 USD) and stated that it would be covered by my credit card. I got this entire deposit back no problem, BUT be aware that this probably WILL happen if you refuse insurance. Also, the line at the rental counter was not very long (maybe 10 people MAX) but it took over an hour and a half for the two desk clerks to finally get to us. I realize it can take a bit, but it averaged to about 15mins per transaction. Ridiculous! Especially after a twelve hour flight. read more

Check also trust pilot reviews!!! I was a little late to pick up the car (I didn't even know that you can be late to pick up a rental car that you already paid for the entire time !) so they told me I'm 2 hours late (after an international flight) and the car is not available anymore... Sure... And of course they don't apologize and give you an upgrade (or simply the booked car which is probably still sitting in the garage) , but they immediately referred to the fine prints. The obvious reason for this is to sell upgrades, in my case I should pay 400 euros (!!!) more for the next available car. In addition, you don't get the insurance that you booked and they will try to sell you another one (worse conditions and of course, again, more expensive). Check the buchbinder reviews on trust pilot, that explains why the try to use a different name. Scam. Don't use them, in the end you have a lot of hassle and pay more. If you contact them, you don't get an answer at all. But I guess that's somewhat expected... read more

Shame on you Buchbinder We rented a car on the 28 September 2017 in Munich Aairport. You gave us the car with a delay of 2 hours because you didn't have any car left. By then we were very late to our meeting in Munich so we pick up the keys in your counter, and nobody came with us to deliver the car. Once there we realized you gave the car without cleaning. The interior of the car was completely dirty with used tissues inside and dust outside, that noone from your company dared to clean before giving it to us. As we were very late to our meeting we decided to just get it and leave, but when we reached the cologne airport the guys there took out the dust and under the dust on the top part of the car there was a very little point impossible to see with the dust, that of course we didn't make. It was that kind of mark that no company charges you because is really difficult to see. And even if we didn't made it you charged us with 700Euros. We have rented car in all latin countries, in south america, and asia, and this has ever happened to us. It is really so unfair what you have done, is really such a theft to do that, that we might have to pay this thing, but we would really dedicate the proportional amount of time and money to let know on all social nets, and in all languages how you guys are taking your business. You are not renting cars, you are just stealing people. And we require you to provide us the picture of the damage, and the certificate of the return of the car from your previous client, plus the certify of cleaning the car before delivering the car to us. They are Bandit, Thief, Cheater, stay away from Buchbinder Dusseldorf Airport or any other Airport!!!! I am about to start a class-action lawsuit against this company. I rented my car through Amex Travel site by Dollar/Thrifty car rental. For piece of mind, I purchased additional car rental insurance through Amex. The Buchbinder agent at the airport told me they do not work with Amex car insurance at all and would not let me to get the car by declining their own policy. They forced me into purchasing their outrageously expensive car rental insurance. I am now in dispute with Amex. It is so unfortunate that such a good company as Amex is supporting them by sending their good Amex members in the trap laid by Dollar/Thrifty/Buchbinder . Amex advertising these companies on their Travel website. The sickening thing is that I talked to Amex Travel representative and asked them specifically whether or not this insurance and additional insurance that I am buying from Amex is acceptable by Buchbinder. She assured me over and over again and said "just go to counter, get the car, show your Amex card and decline the insurance policy that they offer". Bad experience with this rental company in Berlin Tegel Airport. they didn't have the category of car i requested in the reservation so they opted to give me a van tipically used by workers/masons, absolutely not a car to travel comfortably through germany, they didn't want to hear any of my complains about that, so i agreed to pay 59,00 € extra for an upgraded category of car. Furgttermore they didn't make any mention about the limited amount of km included in the contract, the last 10 years i have been renting cars with unlimited km included comung as a basic option so i didn't think to check about this while signing the contract. I realized that only when i got almost 300 € extra on the bill on the credit card. Awful behaviour very little customer oriented. I strongly recommend to avoid this rental company. read more

Buchbinder is a fraud. I recently rented a car from them and had an accident which led to my liability to a third party. When I asked their staff at their shop in Innsbruck Airport, Austria, to claim 3rd party liability insurance, they said I should have brought it myself and claimed it from my own insurance. For my experience with renting cars in many countries, 3rd-party liability insurance is mandatory by law and should not be an optional purchase by the person renting the car. HORRIBLE COMPANY PRACTICES Will charge for anything they can. I rented a car and travelled to another country (Costs extra). I got a fine for speeding (83km/h while the limit was 70). Fair enough, it was my fault. The fine (20euros) was received along with a letter from Buchbinder that I should pay them 23.80euros. It was in German so I thought that they charged 3.80euros for the service of informing me. I paid the next day. A month later, I received a reminder from the agency that issued the fine, telling me that I haven't paid yet. Turns out, I had to pay the fine to the agency (20euros) myself and the 23.80euros were Buchbinder's fee for sending me the letter of notification. read more

Avoid Dollar aka Buchbinder at Tegel. Reserved the car through Kayak. Dollar would not accept the CDW nor the trip insurance I bought. Charged me for winter tires in March. They said its standard know as O to O "Oktober bis Ostern", what BS since Easter dates vary. Charged me 18 EUR for a cross border card, Hertz told me later it's included. They found a scratch on the underside of the front bumper. We could not find the car after searching for an hour; there are no Dollar signs anyplace. So I told the clerk, speaking perfect German, to get his lazy ass out of the chair and find it. He obeyed. We could not find the drop-off, no signs anyplace. Live and learn read more

Horrible experience. We too, had to pay the additional insurance, even though we are insured through our credit card company and car insurance company. However, this wasn't the worst of it. We informed the clerks that we would be driving to Spain and France. We bought the GPS service and crossing border fee. When we crossed into France, we no longer had any maps available. We looked up the countries available on the GPS and we saw Eastern Europe only. We had to call our cell phone carrier and pay 200 for data to have GPS for the week. We didn't use their GPS. We weren't upset, because we thought that it wouldn't be a big deal when we returned. When we returned, they just told us that they weren't responsible and that was that! We decided to deal with it when we got back home. Well here we are. We contacted them and explained the situation. They said they did an "investigation" and that the GPS had all the maps. Well of course it does! They probably downloaded them after we left! It's crazy. Why would we go out of our way and lie about this? So we paid an extra 20 euro a day in insurance and 100 euro for a GPS that we did not use. If they had just refunded our money, we wouldn't of cared that we had to go out of our way to get GPS service and get lost. We went to Budget last year and they were great. No hidden fees and they even gave us a GPS for free. read more

!! Dollar Rental Car Warning, Frankfurt AP!! [Buchbinder agent] I read the previous reviews of this rental agency and see much of my own bad experiences with this Dollar/Thrifty agent. After a long transatlantic flight, expecting to pay $183.06 for my rental car (for which I had researched the best price online), I was instead charged $570 for the rental, and with a $380 deposit. Among the extra charges (it was in German) was one for winter tires even though the weather was quite temperate in mid-October. Shocked, I asked the agent why the price had gone up so high. She replied that I had to have their insurance, which accounted for the increase. She said the fact I already had insurance with USAA, and rented the vehicle with my VISA card was not relevant. They said I also needed a letter from the CC company. Although I had specially selected a VW Golf for economy, they didn't' have one of those, and "upgraded" me to an Opel Zafira mini-van. I had no recourse but to take the car and the rate since being stranded at the airport was not an option. I had to inspect the car in a dimly lit garage in the airport. Fortunately, I had a little penlight, and found some scratches and dings which I used my smartphone to photograph. I called the attendant over and showed him the blemishes I had found which he dismissed as nothing. I made him record them nevertheless. When I returned the car, the agent paid little attention to inspection. I suspect that they make so much money on rentals that they need not worry about the cars too much. After I got my last credit card bill, I saw that the agency had kept about $40 of my deposit. It was their farewell picking of my pocket. Buchbinder should be charged with posing as a rental car agency when they are really an (bent) insurance agent. That's where they make most of their money. I've had good experiences with Dollar and Thrifty on many other occasions outside of Germany, but I'll never rent from them again. read more

Worst car rental agency we've ever used in Germany. First, despite the fact that we already had insurance, the agent had us add insurance that cost more than the actual rental, without telling us that what we were being charged for was actually additional insurance. Second, the car we got was the least 'accessorized' vehicle we've had in years: no cruise control, basic temperature controls, no proximity warnings (beeper for backup or front bumper), no front or rear camera, no heated seats. Absolute Crap this company... Never again. Frankfurt Airport Clerk- Servet Duran... a real dick for sure. Not sure who gives them positive ratings on Rentalcars.com but that is what made me select them for my recent rental. Before arrival I declined insurance as my credit card has me covered. At the airport the clerk asked me to provide papers showing my credit card insurance coverage. I pulled out 2 separate emails showing what I was supposed to bring with me (drivers license, voucher, valid driver's license) when getting the rental. Never did it mention the requirement to bring the insurance paperwork. He was a DICK and said that I needed the paperwork per the agreement. He then showed me on screen some super fine print and said "see here is where you are asked to provide this information." I laughed, said your agent (Rental Cars dot com) gave me these 2 emails so you deal with it. Every customers coming to the kiosk was given the same "buy our insurance for 25 Euro a day or no rental unless your Credit Card has the ability to cover the value of the car." In my case 29K Euro ! luckily, I am covered for that amount. Now the sad part... my rental was "Audi A3 or similar"... they he handed me the keys to a Ford C max (mini-van) and said "this car is in the same class." I asked the clerk to show me where it states the 2 are in the same rental class. He declined said he was not under any obligation to show me... told me to take the keys or they would cancel the reservation. What a joke. read more

Simply don't rent a car with Buchbinder! I rented a car with them for 10 days via Ryanair as the price was good and the reviews looked ok. Obviously they pushed for extra insurance but as I have a yearly one I declined. The car was indeed ok but at return they claimed the car has 'damage'. The damage was minuscule stone chips on the bonnet and the screen, you seriously would not see them if being asked and could have been there for all you know as you'd never check on that level when getting a car. Not a single other company that I've ever used has this policy! They've charged me Euro 800,- (!!!) for this, the exact amount of the excess, so it will be some work to prevent that or get it back but I'll try very hard for sure. TOTAL SCAM. I rented the car and from minute I felt something was wrong, At the fron desk thy tried to sell me another insurance, threatening with a charge of 1000 euro per scratch. I didn´t take that insurance I it sounded ridiculous,.. When I returned the car at the airport, the guy went directly to the windshield, and he found a tiny stone spot (almost impossible to find) as I have travelled for 2000 miles and the windshield was dirty... and the spot was less than half milimiter. I have rented a car using "economycarrentals" web site from June 10 till June 13th. At first I was supposed to get BMW series 1 or similar that the staff in "buchbinder" couldn't supply beacuse "we dont have it", then I had to pay more for much expensive BMW series 5 car. I have returned the car in perfect condition on June 13th,then on June 28 (15 days after the car was returned ) my credit card was being charged without any notification for 856 euros. I mailed "Buchbinder" and they replied saying that "dent damage" on rear bumper was found. Luckily I have taken pictures of the BMW pre & post renting. I also informed "economycarrentals" and my "visa" credit card for this scam. It looks like "Buchbinder" try to walk there way out now using bureaucracy but I dont give up... I wrote them that they need to provide explanations regarding the following: 1. If any damage has happened by me how come I wasn't told about the damage instantly on the spot at the return time by "buchbinder" inspector who took the car key? 2. Does "buchbinder" have any damage report confirmed and signed with my signature as it should be in such a case ? 3. If any damage has happened by me how come I wasn't notified immediately by e.mail on the following day or following 2-3 days ? 4. The car was returned on June 13th the repair invoice is from June 27th two weeks after return, is it not more than strange that it takes 2 weeks for repairing a minor dent ? 5.When I have returned the car it was parked in series one after another, in the blurry picture sent to me it is parked parallel meaning someone drove it after I left. 6. When I have returned the car I turned off the motor and head lights and gave the car key to "buchbinder" staff member, in the blurry picture sent to me the head lights are on, Meaning again as in section 5 that someone drove it after I left. 7.The blurry un clear pictures that allegedly show the damage which was defined by "buchbinder" mail as "dent on rear bumper" are very unclear and also not matched and can Easily defined as normal wear and tear. were as the damage type & location on pictures different from each other, one picture show dent type at certain location while the other show scratch type in another orientation, furthermore there is no proof that this allegedly car damage is on the car I rented - the car license plate is absent from the allegedly damage pictures. Conclusion: AVOID "Buchbinder" IT IS A SCAM COMPANY !!! "You can foll some people some of the time but you cant fool all people all the time". We recommend to avoid this company. We preordered a car to take in Dusseldorf via economycarrentals.com. On ordering the car the excess was 800 EUR. When we arrived to the car rental desk at the airport the represetative their explained that (unlike the order contract) they take excess for each dammage seperately, for example - for each scratch they charge for 800 EUR. This was a last minute deviation from the contract and left us no choice but to add money and but free excess insurance. I sent a complaint to the customer service but received no reply (two weeks already). I recommend not to rent a car from a company that take such an advantage of her customers. read more

They told me they will rebook and refund the first amount back (114€)to my account. After that I found out that nothing was refunded and the 198€ were just additional charges. When I looked into what was included, I found 96Euros for GPS even though the man on the counter told me the GPS is given for free. This business is ripping people. read more

By returning the car we were told that the car was damaged. This wasn't caused by us. We rent cars on a regular basis so we haven't checked the car before hand. We trusted the company. At the desk the employee told us there was some damaged on the rear of the car and he indicated that on the form. We signed for that. But by returning the car another employee noticed some damage down at the bumper. We only drove from Vienna to Neunkirchen and back again. We didn't bumped or shoved the car to anything. We asked for the form which we signed but they didn't want to show it to us. That form stated that there was damage on the car! And now they are blaming us for this damage (650 euros). We can't do anything about this as they reserved 1000 euros on our credit card. Luckily we have an own risk wavor. We have never experienced this before and we have driven enough cars that already had damage before we picked it up. We were never charged for that. I rented a car in Neunkirchen Saar from Buchbinder, through https://www.billiger-mietwagen.de/ The car had scratches and damages from little stone throws in the windshield which they told me about and was documented. I didn't expect to get a car that was already damaged like that. There was no reverse camera and unbuild gps as well which was inconvenient. Anyways, i needed a car and didn't complain about it. When I returned the car, everything was fine, they checked it thoroughly, the employer said that everything was ok. I got my deposit back and three days later received an email that I had damaged the car and needed to pay for it. Ridiculous, the car had no new damages, only the old ones, stay away from them, they will try to charge you with something. After doing a search online, I discovered that this was a common theme with Buchbinder. Not afraid to involve my lawyer if they keep harnessing me, but you might not be as lucky and loose your deposit or wait month for it. read more

SCAM COMPANY still exists in Austria, why? When I came to ask for the rent, they told me that they only had one car left, it was FIAT, ALTHOUGH they have many. The staff/ girl was very rude and impolite, She offered very expensive price with deposit cash for over 500€ + plus 215€ for renting 2 days. I had to withdraw cash and come back, meanwhile I made an order on their website and later came back with the deposit cash, the staff told me that you already booked online and the price is only 129€ but you have to deposit 1000€, THIS IS CRAZY. Why didn't she tell me from very beginning that I could deposit more and get less expensive rent price? THIS IS TOTALLY SCAM/ DISHONEST company, they just want your money, NO MORE. So I decided to come back with more cash for cheaper option ( She was very rude When I decided to go with that, though I had to run 6km totally just to withdraw cash 2 times). The story isn't ended, After 2 days I return the car, and that's my fault when I didn't check enough the condition when I got the car, and she pointed out a lot damages ( though I didn't make any I swear!!!) and the bill was nearly 1000€ for damage repair, and I have filmed the damage, It's just the back bumper cover behinds the tyre loose out/ not even broken.!!!!! Seriously...I wish I read the reviews before booking with Thrifty/Dollar which is run by Rent Terstappen. I landed xmas morning and went to the rental counter of Thrifty/Dollar which was being operated by Rent Terstappen, the line was fairly decent so I waited for about an hour. Upon being helped I was asked whether I would like no deductible insurance for 23 euros a day or 16 Euro insurance with a 600 deductible. The following conversation took place : Me : "No thank you, I don't need insurance as my AMEX covers me in Europe" Teller : "We do not accept AMEX Insurance, only VISA/MC" Me : "Ok fine, here is my HSBC MC" (It is an HSBC Premier card) Teller : "We only accept the insurance if there is a written letter stating that the person is insured in Europe, it's stated in the fine print of the contract" Me : "So let me get this, you don't accept insurance from AMEX, the biggest credit card company in the world, but you still take their card? And you will accept insurance from VISA or MC, but only if there is a written letter stating the person is insured?" Teller : "Correct" Me : "Is this like your little trick to get more money off people?" Teller : "It's not a trick sir, if you read the fine print it is in there." Me : "Miss, the fine print IS a trick. If you tell someone what their cost would be, then in the fine print say it will be additional, that is a trick." Teller : "Sir, you are more than welcome to go somewhere else" (knowing that I was not sure of the rates nor availability of the other locations, plus I've already waited an hour,). Me : "Fine." Teller : "It is also German law that anything under 7 degrees Celsius be required to have a Snow Tyre fee of 13 Euros per day" Me : "Let me guess, in the fine print?" Teller : "Yes sir" Me : "Fantastic" I was then charged a 600 Euro amount instead of actually a hold being placed for a security deposit, which screwed with my exchange rate. The insurance thing is complete bullshit. And the Tyre thing I have no idea if it is a law or not, but I was NEVER given snow tyres. I had standard issue Goodyear Performance ZR16 tires on the BMW I rented. NOTHING was snow tire about them...they were tread patterns made to whip around the autobahn. So if it's law, fine, but I'm not paying for something I was never given. Maybe their terrible company put in the fine print that you also needed to ASK for the tyres after paying for them. Mech Issue #1 : The check engine light came on and I found out there was no oil in the car. I know this sounds weird, but you need to have oil in the damn car for it to operate. There's no manual in the car so I take a few minutes to try to figure out if there is any special oil that needs to be included...all the oil cap says is "BMW recommends Castrol"...awesome, cause that helps. I finally decide that it's probably standard synthetic and go in to purchase oil. After comparing a few I find one is Diesel and one must be not diesel. I purchase that one for a lovely 17 euros and fill that car up. Vehicle Maintenance Issue #2 : Still worried I put the wrong oil in, sure enough the check engine light comes on again but this time its RED instead of YELLOW..which means bad news. So now I'm scared shitless of the car seizing up (for the second time) because I put the wrong oil in. While driving in a slight panic I am still able to figure out how to give me a code on the computer and it says CC-ID 63...cause I have a fucking clue what that means. So I turn on my data on my iphone and start to google it (nice $23 charge in service for that one). Turns out its no tire pressure. So first no oil, now no air. Does anyone even review the cars before giving them to the customers? So I go off the highway for the nearest town and fill up on air. I was told that since I signed a contract there's nothing they will do for me. So fine, I got screwed. But I will never rent from Dollar or Thrfity again. read more
